Zope 2.3.1 install from source
by Petr Knapek 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hello Zopists, I would like to know how to correct build and install Zope 2.3.1 from sources on FreeBSD box. On that box there are few pythons and I need to build Zope with my own build python which is in my home directory. I am not sure if to run wo_pcgi.py with my python is sufficient. Another question is if python for Zope must be compiled with dynamic loading of modules. Thanks for help, if you know any documentation, please give me URL. Bad File Descriptor error - zope crashes at startup
by Jason Cunliffe 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hi Developing Zope on local laptop [Win98se 192Mb, Zope 2.3.1] before upload to Linux server. A system crash last night and now Zope starts ok, but quits the moment I try to access it from a browser request:=> self.file.flush() IOError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor I remember seeing somewhere some clever rescue advice about this situation, some posts begging for help but can't find any followup answers. I do not see a dedicated section in the Documentation page at Zope.org suitably titled: HELP, EMERGENCY, CRASH RECOVERY HOWTOS etc.. Any help much appreciated. PARENTS[0] not working in dtml-in
by Stefan Mallepell 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hi Somehow my code isn't working like expected: Without the 1st dtml-in loop the PARENTS[0].objectValues brings the results as expected. If I add the 1st loop the results are wrong. They are on level to low ... Has anyone a idee how I can do this? <dtml-in "objectValues(['kiscImageContainer'])" sort=ImgSequenceNo> //1st <dtml-in "objectValues(['kiscImageDetail'])"> //2nd <dtml-if expr="ImgCoDefaultImageType==ImgDeImageType"> <dtml-in "PARENTS[0].objectValues(['kiscImageDetail'])"> do something </dtml-in> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> Thanks for your help Stefan

RE: [Zope-CMF] mysqlUserFolder and CMF
by Norman Khine 24 Apr '01

Hello Dieter, Yes, I have a working copy of mysqlUserFolder, and as suggested by Shane, I created a Portal with the internal acl_users folder, which I then deleted and replaced with the acl_users (MySQL Folder) -- authentication and session managment works pretty well -- although I ma not sure how will the load on the db be effected once it goes on the live system. Can you tell me the reason they use the internal methods as per your comment and why is it bad. Do you already have a working "mysqlUserFolder"? If so, just plug it in. It may work although the CMF uses internal methods of the "User" and "UserFolder" objects rather than the official API (which is bad, but I understand why they do it nevertheless ;-)). Dieter

>> Read the "Using External Methods" bit of: >> >> http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/ScriptingZope.dtml > What do I put in the "Function Name" field? > I have nothing like "def" in my script ... I suspect you were using the item from the drop downlist name "script (python)", ie. "internal" python scripts. That's wrong. You'll have to use a real python method and you should really read above mentioned chapter. And also perhaps http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ExternalMethods cheers, oliver

ZPT and GoLive? was: RE: [Zope] More WebDAV fun.
by Upton, Sean 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Somewhat unrelated, but... suppose one is willing to work around such a problem, and one wanted to have documents created within a GoLive site by default create ZPT templates, not DTML documents? So I want to create a ZPT document titled 'document.html' (I know, I'm caving in to Adobe/Macromedia et. al) and it is created from within GoLive, not via the management interface? Is this possible? Forgive the newbie-ness of this question, but my current dev box is running the Debian packaged 2.3.0 (I guess because of hotfixes?), in which WebDAV is broken, AFAIK, so I am currently using passive FTP within GoLive to access my Zope site... I am editing ZPT pages created within the management interface just fine in GoLive (assuming I use .html and .xml for my extentions @#$%!!!), but new ones create as DTML docs. Anybody have any thoughts on how to change this behavior? JavaScript windows like framework?
by Etienne Labuschagne 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hi all I am interested in creating a Zope emitted JavaScript framework that will give one the ability to create GUI application like websites. This framework could be used to create dragable windows, panels, tabbed panel and all the other common windowing components. Most people are familiar with windowing environments and things like Window's start bar's concepts. This way one could make a very familiar environment for the user. I don't know if there is already something like this available, but I think Zope will be the ideal environment to build something like this (or then convert and Zope'ify it!). One can make sure that only the JavaScript relevant to the user's browser is sent (by using aquisitioning). This gives one quite a advantage over the other guys who must in effect send three or more sets of source code to the client's browser with the browser (using ifs, etc.) deciding which piece of code to use. It there is nothing like this available, are there anybody else interested in starting such an open-source project? Let me know. Regards Etienne
