Hello, I'm usually a very happy zope user however today I got this with version 2.3.1: PROBLEM(100) ZODB FS FS21 warn: Data.fs truncated, possibly due to damaged records at 4212717L PROBLEM(100) ZODB FS FS21 warn: Writing truncated data from Data.fs.tr0 PROBLEM(100) ZODB FS FS21 Data.fs Database records in the future Not sure if the last error is related(time on dev and prod server is not in sync) I can't think of anything unusual I might have done to trigger it. (just an import) The result is I've lost an entire folder. Does anybody have a clue at what is going on here ? grt

Yes, reply that back to the mailing list please. Unfortunately not. What would be the "standard" way to test if a column is not NULL? Converting it to a string and check the NULL representation? Re: [Zope] Bad File Descriptor error - zope crashes at startup
by Jason Cunliffe 24 Apr '01

James YES. Thank you!! A tricky side effect I noticed: 1. I created a fresh install of Zope231 with installation username = 'superuser' and passwd = '123' 2. Started the new zope, then entered /manage using this installation login. OK 3. Stopped Zope 4. Copied my old 'Products' folder over plus 'PIL' to new ZSite tree 5. Copied my old [corrupted] Data.fs into the new /var folder 6. Restart Zope 7. Try /manage login .. => now it rejects 'superuser', but accepts my old manager login from the pre-coorupted days [last night].OK Can anyone explain the creation sequence of user permissions for superuser logins and other mamanger logins in Zope 2.3.1? This seems to be related to voodoo installation problems a few __very__ unlucky people have had on Win32. For example: I have been trying to help a new Zope user, Sharlynn <waterstrider(a)frontier.net> who for 14 days cannot login to /manage after installing Zope. She appears to have exhausted all permutations, though no doubt there is ONE we have not found = The right one! She has posted to this list a couple of times but no any replies yet. http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-April/087967.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-April/088946.html Please can anyone help her? adding rewriterule doesn't allow me to enter username/password
by Kurt Yoder 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hello I've managed to get Zope installed on FreeBSD with Apache web server using pcgi. However, I still can't authenticate to get to the Zope management screen. I've added the following to my httpd.conf, as mentioned in the docs/WEBSERVER.txt: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/Zope$ /Zope/ [R] RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope/(.*) /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 [env=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] What gives? What am I doing wrong? I don't see anything in the apache logs. In var/Z2.log I see this repeated several times: 127.0.0.1:- - [24/Apr/2001:18:23:27 -0400] "GET /manage" 401 1848 any help would be appreciated! -Kurt

Question about SiteRoot and absolute_url()
by Jérôme Loisel 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hi there! Assume you have a portal site structure with many SiteRoot objects. The websites are distinct but inter-related. For example: zope.mydomain.org (portal admin) -> /zope, contains SiteRoot zope.mydomain.org/stats (portal info for admins) -> /zope/stats, no SiteRoot www.mydomain.org (main portal) -> /zope/www, contains SiteRoot mail.mydomain.org (e-mail service) -> /zope/mail, contains SiteRoot These sites need to link to each other, but absolute_url gets screwy when combined with SiteRoot objects. My hackish solution so far: look for a SiteRoot. If it exists, use base. If not, go up and look for one. If there is one, combine base with path info. Then look at the code and shiver. So my question is... Is there a clean way of getting absolute_url() as it would look from within that object? Any specific PythonScript code example? -- Jérôme Loisel, étudiant et webmestre Lévinux: GNU/Linux pour la communauté http://www.levinux.org/

re: Adobe GoLive and "Content-Type" HTTP header
by Jeffrey P Shell 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

This has been a known issue for a long time, and it's a fault of GoLive (although not a huge fault - I think they're just erring on the side of caution... maybe too far to the side) not WebDAV. A new version of GoLive is supposed to be in development, and I know that we've reported this bug ourselves, so maybe if enough people scream someone will hear :). FWIW, The 'Content-Type' element you're referring to is a WebDAV Property in this case (found through a PROPFIND command), not the HTTP Header. Zope doesn't always fill in the DAV property, but does fill in the header. Cases *can* exist in WebDAV where the value of the header and the property can be different. This quote (from an Ars Technica article on Mac OS X, which starts letting go of the dual fork functionality of the classic Mac OS) is always poignant to remember in this situation (for better or worse... or worse and worse and worse...): """ Nevertheless, the dawn of the Internet and the lowest common denominator of simple, one-dimensional file streams that it has spread across all of computing, even to areas that the dominance of Windows had not yet reached, makes support for "meta-data through file name mutilation" a necessary evil. """ <http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/01q2/macos-x-final/macos-x-12.html> It wasn't supposed to be this way, but it is. :/ resource forks (or object databases) forever! > From: Svante Kleist <svante+zope@n...> > > Chris and other GoLive fans, > > Not that I expect much from it, and mostly > out of pure curiosity about this new phenomenon > on the Internet, I've opened an issue with > the new commercial support broker service at > > < "http://www.adobe.com/support" > > > (click "Adobe Support Exchange" beneath > "Direct Support" in the lower right) > > = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = > > > My WebDAV server contains HTML documents > named without a ".htm" / ".html" suffix. > They are served with a correct "Content-Type" > HTTP header, which GoLive obviously reads > since the Inspector displays "text/html" > in the "Content Type" field. > > However, the pop-up menu for these documents > does not contain an "Open" choice. > > Is there a way of helping stupid GoLive > to understand that this really is an HTML > document? Seeking planning advice: Apache Zope SiteAccess2
by Jason Cunliffe 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

Hello I am looking for some better understanding for configuration decisions of a new ZopeSite.. Zope is running behind Apache [v1.3 on Linux Redhat 6.2] which is hosting a number of sites. I am using SiteAccess2 and have modified the Apache mod_proxy directives. Any requests http://www.oursite.com/zope direct to Zope. Everything appears to work fine :-) Big thanks to: http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver and http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/SiteAccess2 Q1: What are the performance issues we are likely to face with this setup? Q2: Is this enough..? Q3: Should we be also be adding Fast_cgi, pcgi etc?? Site Overview: The site is for artists and will have a lot of media files. We are using zope becuase there will be frequent user uploads into userrole-resricted areass = 'Artists' Studios'. The goal is a miminum maintenance design but alloownig individual freedom. For new contributions we want to use ExtFile, LocalFS and PhotoProduct [PIL thumbnailing] plus some new products of our own tailored for SWF files. For contributors who already have linear HTML page material to upload we can direct them to use the Apache section. Typically these will be 'private' areas, while most of the public sections will be 100% Zope based. Various kinds of frequent Meta-data [user, content, & interface] will be housed as dictionaries in BerekeleyStorage .db files to keep the Zope Undo list tidy. Any comments about this proposed use of components? Thanks - Jason ___________________________________________________________ Jason CUNLIFFE = NOMADICS['Interactive Art and Technology']

RE: [Zope] Running zope on port 80
by Farrell, Troy 24 Apr '01

Edit $ZOPE_ROOT/start with your zope user: #! /bin/sh reldir=`dirname $0` PYTHONHOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export PYTHONHOME exec /usr/bin/python \ $PYTHONHOME/z2.py \ -w 80 -u zope_user "$@" Use the technique below to run start as root. Zope will change users to the zope_user once it lays claim to port 80 which requires root access. The issue was that linux running XINETD (http://www.xinetd.org) Which is a great thing. But means you have to open up ports for them to work. What I ended up doing is telling zope to look for port 127.0.0.1:8080 only, and telling xinetd to redirect port 80 to 127.0.0.1:8080 (localhost). So the xinetd section looks like (you could just put this in the /etc/xinetd.d directory): # default: on # description: web service # service http { flags = REUSE socket_type = stream wait = no user = zope redirect = localhost 8080 disable = no } I just redirected the port instead of running the server, which I did at startup (so I could get the other ports, etc.) - that script is: #!/bin/sh # description: startup Zserver # chkconfig: 2345 99 00 case "$1" in 'start') /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.3.1/start -u zope -p - -W 8081 \ -a 127.0.0.1 -t 20 \ &> /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.3.1/var/log/startup.log & touch /var/lock/subsys/zope ;; 'stop') /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.3.1/stop rm -f /var/lock/subsys/zope ;; *) echo "Usage: $0 { start | stop }" ;; esac exit 0 Good luck! > From: Bobby <bobby(a)dialognet.com> > Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 15:26:20 +0530 > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] Running zope on port 80 > > Hi > > Newbie question > > My config > postgres 7.03 > linux mandrake 7.2 > zope 2.3.0 > > i am able to run zope thru port 8080 > but i want it to run from port 80 directly > i tried logging in as root and maniopulating the z2.py file to set the port > to 80 but i get a huge error saying permission denined in z2.py file and > Z2.pid etc. > > Does anyone know what the problem could be ? > Any help is appreciated ? > > thanks > > bobby > -- > ======================================================== > "On the side of the software box, in the 'System Requirements' section, > it said 'Requires Windows 95 or better'.
