James YES. Thank you!! A tricky side effect I noticed: 1. I created a fresh install of Zope231 with installation username = 'superuser' and passwd = '123' 2. Started the new zope, then entered /manage using this installation login. OK 3. Stopped Zope 4. Copied my old 'Products' folder over plus 'PIL' to new ZSite tree 5. Copied my old [corrupted] Data.fs into the new /var folder 6. Restart Zope 7. Try /manage login .. => now it rejects 'superuser', but accepts my old manager login from the pre-coorupted days [last night].OK Can anyone explain the creation sequence of user permissions for superuser logins and other mamanger logins in Zope 2.3.1? This seems to be related to voodoo installation problems a few __very__ unlucky people have had on Win32. For example: I have been trying to help a new Zope user, Sharlynn <waterstrider(a)frontier.net> who for 14 days cannot login to /manage after installing Zope. She appears to have exhausted all permutations, though no doubt there is ONE we have not found = The right one! adding rewriterule doesn't allow me to enter username/password

Hello I've managed to get Zope installed on FreeBSD with Apache web server using pcgi. However, I still can't authenticate to get to the Zope management screen. I've added the following to my httpd.conf, as mentioned in the docs/WEBSERVER.txt: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/Zope$ /Zope/ [R] RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope/(.*) /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 [env=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] What gives? What am I doing wrong? I don't see anything in the apache logs. In var/Z2.log I see this repeated several times: 127.0.0.1:- - [24/Apr/2001:18:23:27 -0400] "GET /manage" 401 1848 any help would be appreciated! -Kurt

Question about SiteRoot and absolute_url()

Hi there! Assume you have a portal site structure with many SiteRoot objects. The websites are distinct but inter-related. For example: zope.mydomain.org (portal admin) -> /zope, contains SiteRoot zope.mydomain.org/stats (portal info for admins) -> /zope/stats, no SiteRoot www.mydomain.org (main portal) -> /zope/www, contains SiteRoot mail.mydomain.org (e-mail service) -> /zope/mail, contains SiteRoot These sites need to link to each other, but absolute_url gets screwy when combined with SiteRoot objects. My hackish solution so far: look for a SiteRoot. If it exists, use base. If not, go up and look for one. If there is one, combine base with path info. Then look at the code and shiver. So my question is... Is there a clean way of getting absolute_url() as it would look from within that object? This has been a known issue for a long time, and it's a fault of GoLive (although not a huge fault - I think they're just erring on the side of caution... maybe too far to the side) not WebDAV. A new version of GoLive is supposed to be in development, and I know that we've reported this bug ourselves, so maybe if enough people scream someone will hear :). FWIW, The 'Content-Type' element you're referring to is a WebDAV Property in this case (found through a PROPFIND command), not the HTTP Header. Zope doesn't always fill in the DAV property, but does fill in the header. Cases *can* exist in WebDAV where the value of the header and the property can be different. Seeking planning advice: Apache Zope SiteAccess2

Hello I am looking for some better understanding for configuration decisions of a new ZopeSite.. Zope is running behind Apache [v1.3 on Linux Redhat 6.2] which is hosting a number of sites. I am using SiteAccess2 and have modified the Apache mod_proxy directives. Any requests http://www.oursite.com/zope direct to Zope. Everything appears to work fine :-) Big thanks to: http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver and http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/SiteAccess2 Q1: What are the performance issues we are likely to face with this setup? Q2: Is this enough..? Q3: Should we be also be adding Fast_cgi, pcgi etc?? Site Overview: The site is for artists and will have a lot of media files. We are using zope becuase there will be frequent user uploads into userrole-resricted areass = 'Artists' Studios'. The goal is a miminum maintenance design but alloownig individual freedom. For new contributions we want to use ExtFile, LocalFS and PhotoProduct [PIL thumbnailing] plus some new products of our own tailored for SWF files. For contributors who already have linear HTML page material to upload we can direct them to use the Apache section. Typically these will be 'private' areas, while most of the public sections will be 100% Zope based. Various kinds of frequent Meta-data [user, content, & interface] will be housed as dictionaries in BerekeleyStorage .db files to keep the Zope Undo list tidy. Running zope on port 80

Hi Newbie question My config postgres 7.03 linux mandrake 7.2 zope 2.3.0 i am able to run zope thru port 8080 but i want it to run from port 80 directly i tried logging in as root and maniopulating the z2.py file to set the port to 80 but i get a huge error saying permission denined in z2.py file and Z2.pid etc. Does anyone know what the problem could be ? Zope 2.3.1 install from source

Hello Zopists, I would like to know how to correct build and install Zope 2.3.1 from sources on FreeBSD box. On that box there are few pythons and I need to build Zope with my own build python which is in my home directory. I am not sure if to run wo_pcgi.py with my python is sufficient. Another question is if python for Zope must be compiled with dynamic loading of modules. Thanks for help, if you know any documentation, please give me URL.
