Running Zope Under Win95
by John Gregory 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

Hi All I hope this is the right list for this subject. I've downloaded the latest stable release of Zope to use under Win95 as a personal server for web site development testing. Trouble is when I run start.bat I get 2 separate bursts of HD activity then the program just sits there. Any help to get me beyond this stage would be very much appreciated. Regards jaygee

Zope vs other Web Languages.
by Steven Grimes 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

I've been asked by my superiors to justify using Zope for our web database applications from a performance perspective. I've searched the web and tried to search the Zope site for any relevant performance benchmarks comparing Zope to languages such as ASP, PHP and JSP. Has anyone done any real world benchmarks? Confusing user folder and permissions
by Gitte Wange 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

Hello, I am trying to figure out how the user folder works. (Yes Chris I have read the book *S*) I want a section (it's in a folder) to be non-accessable for anonymous user. I enter the security tab of that folder and look at the list of permissions. In the column beloning to the anonymous user I see that non of the checkboxes are checked. (In my head I get this as: Ah this user cannot access the folder). But when I - as anonymous user - enters the folder nothing stops me. I see all the data I shouldn't. What is wrong here ? -- ************************ Gitte Wange Jensen System Squid Developer MMManager Aps +45 29 72 79 72 gitte(a)mmmanager.org ************************

RE: [Zope] Delete multiple posts

I use a python script to do this all day :) Zope Coolness: You don't have to run through the array. Pass the array as a parameter to manage_delObjects. Remember to bind the namespace to _ The check boxes are listed as follows in a form that calls my script: <dtml-in expr="objectValues()"> <li><input type="checkbox" name="ids:list" value="<dtml-var name="id">"<dtml-if name="checkall"> checked="checked"</dtml-if> />&nbsp<a href="&dtml-absolute_url;?ex=.log"><dtml-var name="title"></a></li> </dtml-in> The Script: ## Script (Python) "manageLogFiles" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace=_ ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters= ##title= ## if context.REQUEST.has_key('ids') and context.REQUEST.has_key('doThis'): if context.REQUEST.doThis == 'Delete these!': # Delete all selected LogFiles # note the .logs. in the command below context.logs.manage_delObjects(context.REQUEST.ids) context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(context.REQUEST.SourceURL) else : # I don't know what to do raise KeyError else: # Do this if they didn't check any of the boxes # I used to raise a KeyError, but that is stupid # Nobody wants a computer to tell them that they pushed # a button at the wrong time. Now, we essentially do # nothing, but send them back to where they came from. # raise KeyError context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(context.REQUEST.SourceURL) Troy -----Original Message----- From: Gitte Wange [mailto:gitte@babytux.dk] Sent: Monday, April 02, 2001 6:05 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Delete multiple posts Hello, I have a list of items where it should be possible to delete all the items you wish. Each item have a checkbox with the value equal to them itemid. I have done this is PHP just by naming these checkboxes "deletearr[]" to make an array, then run through the array an delete each item. But how do I do the same thing in Zope ? Or - a more specifik question - can I make an array the same way in Zope that I did in PHP ? Authenticate users

Hello, I'm making this website where we - surprise - need to have users to login. But I haven't been able to find any FAQ or How-To on how the user folders work or how you make any login and add users pages. Is there someone who have made a How-To on this subject ? CMF reconfiguration error
by Hans de Wit 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

Hello, I tried the CMF on a clean Zope 2.3.1 configuration. Everything went pretty good, except for the reconfiguration of the portal: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: expected integer key The traceback is in the end of this message. I am using a Windows machine, so the assumptions in the readme are not completely met: - Zope configured using INSTANCE_HOME, '/var/zope', and SOFTWARE_HOME, '/usr/local/zope/Zope-2.3.1b1'. The installation of CMF on my Zope 2.3.1 is as follows (it could be the cause of the error). I moved the three directories: CMFCore CMFDefault and CMFTopic to lib\python\products and started Zope. This works fine until reconfiguration of the portal. Passing variables around.
by Ixokai 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

I have a general menubar on my site, who's orientation will vary depending on which page its on. Sometimes its on the left, sometimes its on the right. And its color can vary, too. So that's two bits of information that I want to be able to pass to the dtml method /standard_menubar in each page. What i'm currently doing is this: <dtml-let Prefix="'L-'" Color="'Orange'"><dtml-var standard_menubar></dtml-let> Is that the 'correct' way to pass variables around? Hmm. Would it be better to just set 'Properties' on my content_html DTML document? Speaking of. I'm designing my site with the 'One Folder per Page' paradigm. Should content_html be a DTML document or method? Are there advantages or disadvantages to each? My understanding is that the Folder would then become the 'object' that is the page, instead of the content_html being the object within the folder... is this correct? --Ix

Re: [Zope] How do I include a file into a DTML box?

Quick&dirty (not really dirty, but sure quick): Take a look at the LocalFS Product, it makes it possible to get through to the local fs. Zope-integrated: Take a look at ZPublisher.Client, a small howto is at http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/ZClientMethod to see how to write an external method which does everything which your script does. Perhaps zope in 2.3 you can use a python-script for this task, don't know that though. This opens the problem to periodically fetch the data, but it would make it possible to get it again for every client-request (which you don't want to do I guess). A mix between the two. Take a look at utilities/load_site.py in your zope-directory to see the necessary things to do to add methods/folders via script. You just have to construct the right URIs to call inside your script which add a method/text file through a web interface. You can also use ftp-access or DAV to easily put the data into zope. cheers, oliver

Re: [Zope] SQLSession Transaction.py.patc

Thanks for that correction. The code I was using was from way back when I first started using SQLSession. I guess at some point the author must have accidentally revealed his patch, although I can't remember where or when. <color><param>7F00,0000,0000</param>> > A more correct version is: > > def _prepend(self, object): > self._objects[0:0] = [object] > </color>Even simpler when it comes down to it would be to lose the _prepend method altogether and replace: self._prepend(object) with your line or with self._objects.insert(0, object) However a better solution in the long run might be to move existing code over to Core session tracking. <nofill> -- Duncan Booth duncan(a)dales.rmplc.co.uk int month(char *p){return(124864/((p[0]+p[1]-p[2]&0x1f)+1)%12)["\5\x8\3" "\6\7\xb\1\x9\xa\2\0\4"];} // Who said my code was obscure? http://dales.rmplc.co.uk/Duncan
