Fortunately we've solved the threading problem ( at least appearently :), so I hope we can publish a beta during the upcoming week after having rounded it up a bit. phil *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 03.03.2001 at 07:37 Tim Cook wrote: >Philipp Auersperg wrote: >> >> yeap, if I have many ZEO instances these run of course >> parallel undependent of the $"§%" Python Globel Interpreter Lock. >> >> That is not enough for my needs so I'll continue my search. >> >> Anyhow if this DA would reach your needs and we've removed the most >> TODO's from the source code, you can have it and do some testing with it >> (would be good help for us, since we are no DB2 expoerts). >> > >I will have a need to start testing in the next 3-4 weeks. >I'm no DB2 expert either, but I'm going to hire one. <s> > >-- >Tim Cook, President - FreePM,Inc. >http://www.FreePM.com Office: (901) 884-4126 >http://www.freepm.org:8080/FreePM

Re: MySQL on 2.3.0
by Spinwing 03 Mar '01

Hello Dwayne well, the only counsel I can give you, but I do not think you will like it, is to upgrade MySQL to the last release 3.23.33, which is far ahead on the one you are using which I read 2.22. At least you exclude that the bug is in MySQL. I can also suggest to try it first in a separate environment, so you are sure if it is MySQL or not. Re: [Long] Development in Zope (Was: Re: [Zope] data point on ease of learning Zope -- I give up.)

Hello Cees the problem you raised is exactly the same problem I am facing. Allow me to list my problems: - I am an experienced Java programmer, as well as many other -win- languages - I want to build a big site with lots of logic - I want to have a comfortable tool - I do not want to build tons of classes from scratch. I have been evaluating a lot of other solutions, including ColdFusion, Enhydra as app servers, PHP, ASP, and other as languages. After a lot of headaches, I came out with the idea that unfortunately there are no "all in one out of the box" solutions. From product A you get abc tools/solutions, from B you get def and so on. So at the end I decided to stick with Zope, for many reasons including: - Perl, maybe IMHO not the best, but terribly efficient and widespread. - Python, even if I do not like it at all, but after all the important is that it does it work :)) - XML-RPC so Java for me - you can hide Zope behind Apache, so you can also use Tomcat, PHP and whatever. In the end, a mig mix. But please tell me, where in world can you find an all in one? I did not, so at least, I will take the advantage of the great manageabilty of Zope, those tons of "speed-of-light" tools like DTML-IN and ZSQL methods, and do the rest in the tool I like most for that specific work. I do not like it, however, because it lacks consistency, but at least I will not end up reinventing the weel that somebody has already invented, and debugged veeeery well, seen the tons of peple using Zope. Regards Stefano

[ANN] LDAPLoginAdapter 1.0beta2 released
by Jens Vagelpohl 03 Mar '01

03 Mar '01

The second LDAPLoginAdapter beta, a user folder replacement that authenticates against an LDAP server, has been released. Improvements and bugfixes include: * Refactoring of all LDAP-connection-related code with the advantage of clearer error messages and fewer lines of code. Any inabilities to communicate with the LDAP server are caught right away when the server information is edited in the management screens. * Addition of API documentation accessible through the Zope Help system After bug reports from people who tried to use the LDAPLoginAdapter on pre-2.3.0-versions of Zope the documentation makes it clearer that 2.3.0 or higher is needed to use this product. Some of its features are: * Freely select the LDAP attribute to be used as the user name * Look up user records using the built-in search interface * Written on and for Zope 2.3.0, including the new management interface and copious documentation through the Zope Help System * ...and more You can view some of the documentation and download the software at http://www.dataflake.org/software/ldaploginadapter. A Tracker at that same address allows you to easily file bug reports or feature requests for this product. jens

Promplems with TinyTablePlus
by Bodo Bauer 03 Mar '01

03 Mar '01

Hi, I try to use TiniyTablePlus in my product, however I can't create a TinyTable as subobject in any of my classes. Whenever I try to create an instance of a TinyTablePlus, either from a DTML method, or manually in the manage screens, the created table ends up being in the first folder (counting from innermost upwards) that is not an instance from a Zclass I created, but a regular folder. All my Zclasses are derived from ZObjectManager, so it should work, right? Im using Zope 2.3.1b1, Pyhton 1.5.2 and TinyTablePlus-0-9. Am I doing anything wrong, or is this a bug in Zope/TinyTablePlus? BB -- Bodo Bauer bb(a)bb-zone.com PGP Available http://bb-zone.com C8 1A 71 72 15 21 E2 EF 98 DF EF CF 17 8A DF 48 3C 10 FA 3A

Hello from New Riders
by Stephanie.Wall＠newriders.com 03 Mar '01

03 Mar '01

Hello, I wanted to drop an email and introduce myself and basically say hello. I'm the editor from New Riders who's working with Michel and Amos on publishing their well known Zope book. I've had some people write to me asking when the book will appear on book shelves. If all goes as planned, the finished book will be out in July. As a special to this announcement, the first 5 people who email me saying that they are interested in the book will be sent a free copy when it publishes. In addition, if you're in some way affiliated with a website, company, or other source that could help generate publicity about their book and Zope in general, please let me know as I'd like to follow up with you on co-promotional opportunities.
