RE: [Zope] Paradox and zodbcda

I don't know Paradox, but you might want to turn on error logging to help you. In WindowsNT, I select Data sources(ODBC32) under the control panel. Then, look at the tracing tab. That will let you turn it on. Troy -----Original Message----- From: Hans de Wit [mailto:hw@scp.nl] Sent: Friday, March 02, 2001 10:56 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Paradox and zodbcda Hello, I am having problems with a Paradox database that is connected via odbc and the zodbcda into Zope. I tried it on two machines now and after a day or two the connection doesn't work anymore and i cann't revive it. Has anybody experience with connecting Paradox databases via ODBC into Zope (and give a hint). The symptoms are: When you test the database connection with a very simple SQL query: select * from atable The first time it gives back (this is my english translation of the dutch error message, stuurprogramma = driver / driverprogram?) Error Type: sql.error Error Value: ('S1093', -1003, '[Microsoft][ODBC Paradox-driverprogram] Invalid argument.') The second time that you issue the test it sends: Error Type: sql.error Error Value: ('24000', 0, '[Microsoft][ODBC-driverprogrammanagement] Invalid cursorstatus') Before i started the test the first time i was able to browse the database. All tables were shown. After the first test not anymore. Probably this is not a Zope error. The error messag is in dutch and Zope is in english. The messages hint that the problem is somewhere else. I was able to connect to the odbc source via Excel, even after the testing. setting properties - some basic questions
by Jason Cunliffe 02 Mar '01

Hello I have been studying Caseman's excellent How-To ideas for clean handling of Javascripts in Zope: http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/client_script_howto [Thank You!] So now I have a boolean property 'admin' for my site folders and DTMLDocuments. When admin is 'ON' various Methods are rendered on the pages some simple <dtml-if> statements such as: <dtml-if admin> admin = <dtml-var admin> <dtml-var showjavascripts> <dtml-else> admin is OFF </dtml-if> Please, can anyone teach me how to: Q1. set 'admin' on or off by a button on the same page? Q2. set 'admin' on or off by a button on another page? Q3. toggle 'admin' to its oppposite state via a button? Q4. perform 1, 2, 3 above via a DTML/Python method I can call from anywhere? ..my documents also have a 'scripts' property [type = 'Lines']. 'scripts' lists the names of various javascript functions wrapped as DTMLmethods. Q5. How can I edit the text in different lines of such a a property? This is my 'showjavascripts' DTMLmethod: The script properties of this DTMLdocument are: <dtml-in scripts> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in> #note: scripts is a type='lines' property as above Q6. How do to create and set a property for whole lot of documents using DTML and/or Python? For example, I have a folder 'NEWARTISTS' and I want to add 'admin' and 'scripts' properties for all documents and folders within those... Q7. How to make this all work so that qualified users can login into 'admin' pages inside certain folders which will then turn 'on' the admin property flag automatically for everythign below that? Presumably 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 will all use 4... I imagine this is all incredibly simple, but I need a little help to reach the aaha!! moment :-) +FINALLY, I have want to apply the same approach setting 'scripts' and 'admin' for index_html, but since it is a method it has no properties. If I apply 'scripts' and folder properties it to its parent folder it will then apply to everyhting below there by acquisition. This is handy but often I need finer grained control than that. Changing index_html to be a DTMLdocument does not work. Any suggestions for Thinking Zope here? Method invocation.
by Antonio Costa 02 Mar '01

Hi there. I'm just a newbie in this environment so I'm having lots of questions about how does this work. What I think I know is the following: 1: The method called by Zopen when it creates an object/product is declared at the file named __init__.py at that products directory. My problem is: 2: The problem I'm having several times is that from that method I'm having trouble to call another one, if this other is a DTMLFile(). I have no problem calling another method defined by def. What I don't know: How to debug a situation like this. I'm having another problem with method invocation a little bit like this and I can't debug it. I think my problem has to do with the environment but I'm not sure and I don't know how to figure it out. I've even included my own file with the import statement but even that doesn't work. I've created other products without having this problem and, aparently, I've done it the same way. I know this isn't a very clear explanation of my problem. This is because the problem is I don't know what the problem is...!!! :) Thank you in advance. -- URL: http://www.terravista.pt/Enseada/1831 http://accosta.planetaclix.pt PT is Portugal ####### # # # #" #" # Linux ##vvvvv## Rules! ## vvv ## # ## ## ## ### ### +++##### ##++ ++++++# #++++++ +++++++# #+++++++ +++++#######+++++ +++ +++

RE: [Zope] Proposal: Include tino's patched <dtml-in> in future Z ope

> Is that not a standard problem in the Zope context? > > If you access any object via acquisition or the DTML namespace, > then the definition of a new property can break code: > the property may be retrieved rather than an object > formerly acquired, looked up deeper in the namespace. Yes. Both of these mechanisms can only be made robust by controlling which namespace will staisfy namespace search. That means not relying on the fact that a name will not be found in an 'uncontrolled' namespace. I posted a patch on this list a while back, which used a __getattr__ hook to list all the names which were being looked up, but not found, in the zope root object. The output is listed at http://www.zope.org/Members/htrd/names. Try creating a property under one of those names and see what breaks. (this list was created with 2.2.x. several patches to fix such issues have been merged since then) There are several solutions to this problem: for dtml, switch to a different language for any non-trivial logic. for acquisition, 2.3.0 introduced a __replaceable__ attribute that adds protection to a name inside a containment heirarchy. This is a good start, but not yet a total solution.

Jason: I would suggest taking a look at the following: The Zope Book: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB Dieter's excellent Zope Book (Chapter 3): http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html HowTo: Advanced DTML Techniques: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/AdvancedDTML and finally... HowTo: The DTML NameSpace HowTo: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/HowTos/NameSpaceHow-To Those are all good questions; however I think you will be able to find all of the answers you need at the above links. I also think you will get a better fundamental understanding of how Zope works and the various mechanisms/ways to go about programming in Zope after reading the above material. I'm certainly not trying to steer you away from asking questions to the mailing list; sometimes it is easier and quicker to point to documentation rather than give a cursory answer. Hope this helps, Andrew Williams >From: "Jason Cunliffe" <jasonic(a)nomadicsltd.com> >To: <zope(a)zope.org> >Subject: [Zope] setting properties - some basic questions >Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 07:43:23 -0500 > >Hello > >I have been studying Caseman's excellent How-To ideas for clean handling of >Javascripts in Zope: >http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/client_script_howto >[Thank You!] > >So now I have a boolean property 'admin' for my site folders and >DTMLDocuments. >When admin is 'ON' various Methods are rendered on the pages some simple ><dtml-if> statements such as: > ><dtml-if admin> > admin = <dtml-var admin> > <dtml-var showjavascripts> ><dtml-else> > admin is OFF ></dtml-if> > >Please, can anyone teach me how to: > >Q1. set 'admin' on or off by a button on the same page? > >Q2. set 'admin' on or off by a button on another page? > >Q3. toggle 'admin' to its oppposite state via a button? > >Q4. perform 1, 2, 3 above via a DTML/Python method I can call from >anywhere? > >..my documents also have a 'scripts' property [type = 'Lines']. >'scripts' lists the names of various javascript functions wrapped as >DTMLmethods. > >Q5. sendmail problem
by Harald Scheirich 02 Mar '01

02 Mar '01

I am trying to use the dtml-sendmail tag but it is failing to cooperate. I have tried various combinations of writing the sender and mail content but i either get an error message Error type: TypeError Error value: len() of unsized object which traces back to the python smtp and rfc822 modules when i write the recipient as "To: scheirich(a)nulleins.at". On the other hand i recieve an empty email-message when i use the mailto="scheirich(a)nulleins.at" parameter which arrives correctly but has undisclosed-recipients and no content. I have tried the email address in various forms <> delimited, no delimiters, ... I am using 2.3b1 with hot fix, but i had the same problem with 2.3 Any hints anybody ? Harald Scheirich
