Thanx Walter

Add Python Product Tutorial to Zope book?
by Hamish Lawson 02 Mar '01

02 Mar '01

I realise that the Zope book can't cover every topic in advanced detail, but it might be hoped to touch on each of the major topics, even if whetted appetites have to seek further information elsewhere. However I feel that one major topic has been omitted entirely without any appetite-whetting opportunuity, namely developing Python products. Could the Python Product Tutorial* not be added to the book? It seems to be written with a similar approach as the existing chapters in the book, and so wouldn't seem to require too much work to be incorporated. Without a chapter like this I feel that the Zope story hasn't quite been told. RE: [Zope] Newbie - security
by Farrell, Troy 02 Mar '01

First, on the Security tab of the folder to protect, remove the 'Acquire Permission Settings?' checkbox on any permissions you don't want the folder to get from it's parent. Generally, the root object allows anonymous access to the 'Access Contents Information' and 'View' permissions. If those were the only ones you needed to adjust, only unselect those checkboxes. If you want no acquision, you would uncheck all the 'Acquire Permission Settings?' boxes and set only the permissions you desire. Paradox and zodbcda
by Hans de Wit 02 Mar '01

02 Mar '01

Hello, I am having problems with a Paradox database that is connected via odbc and the zodbcda into Zope. I tried it on two machines now and after a day or two the connection doesn't work anymore and i cann't revive it. Has anybody experience with connecting Paradox databases via ODBC into Zope (and give a hint). The symptoms are: When you test the database connection with a very simple SQL query: select * from atable The first time it gives back (this is my english translation of the dutch error message, stuurprogramma = driver / driverprogram?) Error Type: sql.error Error Value: ('S1093', -1003, '[Microsoft][ODBC Paradox-driverprogram] Invalid argument.') The second time that you issue the test it sends: Error Type: sql.error Error Value: ('24000', 0, '[Microsoft][ODBC-driverprogrammanagement] Invalid cursorstatus') Before i started the test the first time i was able to browse the database. All tables were shown. After the first test not anymore. Probably this is not a Zope error. The error messag is in dutch and Zope is in english. The messages hint that the problem is somewhere else. I was able to connect to the odbc source via Excel, even after the testing. Thanks Met vriendelijke groeten, Hans de Wit h.de.wit(a)scp.nl

Deleting objectreferences
by Torsten Gallmeister 02 Mar '01

02 Mar '01

Hi, I use a class in my Product to make LDAP-queries : ------------------ class LDAP_Search: def __init__(self,res): ..... ## and use it in def search_LDAPuser(self, uid): # open a connection l=ldap.open(LDAP_SERVER,LDAP_PORT) # search all users lst=l.search_s(LDAP_BASE_DN,ldap.SCOPE_SUBTREE,"uid=*",["uid","cn"]) # create a List of u_lst=[] for i in lst: u_lst.append(LDAP_Search(i)) return u_lst ---------------------- and I use it with <dtml-in> tags for different Forms. After /Control_Panel/manage_debug I have many thousend objectreferences to instances of this object. I don't know whats the trouble. Don't want to store these objects. (at start, ZOPE tryes to load the objects from the DB). My question is, what is bad at this code? , is there a way to find out, what referes to this objects or/and how to delete them from the DB? Thanks for any help, Torsten

How do you track if somebody leaves your site..?
by Spicklemire, Jerry 02 Mar '01

02 Mar '01

Stoons asked: > Can somebody tell me how to track if someone "leaves" the Zopeserver..? It depends on how they "leave" your site. If they type an URL in the "location" bar of their browser, you're out of luck as far as detecting exactly what that URL was. On the other hand, if they click a link on a "page" of a Zope site, that link can in fact point to another "page" that is really a Zope method (script, whatever) that logs the click. Then, the meta-refresh* idea can be applied to re-direct to the final destination, which would have been passed as a parameter of the original link. You could also use a true HTTP redirect: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('finalURL')"> where 'finalURL' is a <dtml-var> representing the destination URL. You might also want at look at Petru Paler's ClickTracker: "This product logs clickthroughs to foreign (or local) URLs in a SQL database. The data gathered with it is useful to generate reports about where your site's visitors go." http://www.zope.org/Members/ppetru/ClickTracker Later, Jerry S. * search at NIP for "meta-refresh" http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/$$Search?OpenForm

MySQL on 2.3.0
by Dwayne Morrison 02 Mar '01

Hi, I'm still having no luck getting the aggregate functions to work on Solaris. Can someone help me figure out how to debug this? In Connection.py in the manage_test method we find: report=DocumentTemplate.HTML( '<html><body bgcolor="#ffffff" link="#000099" vlink="#555555">\n' '<dtml-var name="manage_tabs">\n<hr>\n%s\n\n' '<hr><h4>SQL Used:</strong><br>\n<pre>\n%s\n</pre>\n<hr>\n' '</body></html>' % (r, query)) report=apply(report,(self,REQUEST),{self.id:result}) If I run "select * from users," there is no problem. When I run "select count(*) from users" the server drops the connection. I've tried logging before and after 'apply' and found that that's where it dies. The DA is running the query and returning the result , but any count/sum/average functions cause it to die when it's being rendered. How can I print the contents of {self.id:result} to compare * vs. count(*)? Please help!!
