HI, I am trying to set up a form when a user can upload three images at once: one for a logo, one for a city map and one for a country map. These images are used by a ZClass (Base classes: ZCatalog Aware, Object Manager) to display a hotel web page, with info about this hotel. Authorised users are supposed to create this hotel instance. ImportError of SheetProviderContainer

Search Features and Zope Directions Road Map

Zope is a great application server, the same as its soon to be released Content Management Framework, because of its bet on Python, everybody say it. Nevertheless, after reading the Directions Roadmap from DC, I was surprised that a substantial improvement of the searching features of Zope, wasn't mentioned as a major concern. For a new Zope enthusiast like me, it is a kind of addiction to arrange and administer content while taking the learning curve. Almost everybody in this list with a non-programming background might've experimented this. But when I arrived to the search features of ZCatalog, I got mixed feelings. (Right now I'm stuck on this OR indexes searching :) ) The fact is that - according to my strong belief - everybody uses more Google to look for Zope Site's content than Zope's own Zcatalog's search engine. Moreover, everybody uses more Google to look for everything, bypassing windows, doors, and portals!. Why? Because it's terribly smart (not mentioning its 6,000 Linux boxes, by the way), and because there's no need to follow the highly-engineered information architecture of a web site, if there's a trustful shorcut to the relevant content!. So, if I'd have to mention one big feature improvement to Zope, I wouldn't doubt: "search engine". I just wanted to point on this subject. I know Zope isn't about spidering and retrieving, but it should have "Greater Search Capabilities" as a title, within that roadmap. :) Ausum p.d. Right now I'm quite interested at the technology of searching and finding non structured content, in order to compose structured documents. For example, the guys at Vignette (StoryServer) say that its customers don't need to keyword anything in order to have a "related content" section. After the writer finishes a story, (possibly while) a routine by Autonomy (www.autonomy.com) reads the document and finds out what the document is about, and so it triggers a search for related content within the site, without the need of intervention by the writer. (For the curious, Autonomy has published a personal version of its software. It's called Kenjin (www.kenjin.com) ). On the other hand, Fast, from Norway, already have a nice multimedia search engine, from regular, non-structured, spidered web pages. Can we do that "structuring the unstructured" thing within Zope?

Applying fmt rules to variables

Hi all, I have an old system Im migrating that makes use of images that are kept in numbered directories. The mehtod they were saved before required that the whitespace in the names had a +. In other words, something like <dtml-var name url_quote_plus> BUT, I need to actually save these files, and the above formatting rule only seems to be applyable to output. How can I do something like <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('name', lname fmt=url_quote_plus)"> I know thats obviously NOT how to do it, but Im wondering at this point if it is at all, or do I have to rename all 600 files to not use +? I guess, first would be to do a string search and replace, but Im not sure where to start.... Cheers, Paz

[Tree tag] Influencing the tree using the tree-s or tree-e cookie

Hi, I have searched the lists archive and did not found a solution to my problem. I want to force a tree hierarchy using dtml-tree to expand a specific branch when it is rendered the first time. Apparently I didn't read the documentation well enough... Calling the method obj.propertyMap() returns a tuple holding a dictionary of three items (id,type,mode). I wasn't correctly iterating over the tuple and retrieving the dictionary items (id,type) I needed... (slapping forehead) Anyway, I've got what I need working... I am chalking this up to RTFM and OE. I don't think PHP would be any easier than learning Zope would be (although I can't say for sure since I've only glanced at it). As far as learning Python in parallel, I think it would be a good idea to learn the basics of python before tackling Zope. At least have a general knowledge of objects. If not, you could easily get into Zope with the bare essentials. Don't be surprised when you find yourself wanting to learn as much as you can about it though. > Should I start with the Zope Book? Should I start > learning python at the same time? If Learning > Python was hard, which book do you recommend? I learned a lot from the Zope Book, especially the Appendix B. I also a learned a lot from "Try it, break it, try something else". If you're gonna pick up a Python book though, I'd get O'Reilly's "Learning Python" (the mouse book). Very easy to understand and a good primer for those new to python (although not a great reference book). Also, don't forget about the Mailing list, and its archives, they're also a valuable tool in learning Zope as well. Good luck, and I hope this helps. - Justin

2.3 Security tab very slow in IE 5 compared to 2.2

Im not sure what changed in the generated HTML in 2.3, but the security tab takes about 4 seconds to appear on my PIII-500 Win2k box when running IE5.5 (haven't tried other browsers yet) However on 2.2 its very fast. Perhaps generated HTML needs to be fixed up a little. Other than background coloring, what's the difference?
