Forcing a commit fixed my problem. So I wouldn't say its nonsense. My guess is that, yes all properties of a ZClass when changed are readily available within that thread. But, the manage_clone method I was using is pulling and putting objects straight off of the ZODB and not from my transaction space. Please correct me if I am wrong. Hi, Check out the ZCatalog Tutorial if you haven't already (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ZCatalogTutorial) One way to get started with searching a ZCatalog is to create a "Z Search Interface". This will give you a search form and a report. The report shows you how you can search. Some basic syntax you can use: <dtml-in "Catalog({artistname: 'Buffett'})"> ...stuff to display the results... <p><a href="<dtml-var "getpath(data_record_id_)">"><dtml-var title></a></p> </dtml-in> You use the getpath function to get the URL of the cataloged object. Types for DA

I have been working on improving ZPostgreSQLDA to recognize more types, and now I have a problem with missing types. The biggest need is for Time (I've found only DateTime, which i can't use) Or is there a hidden Time type somewhere ? If not, could I use mxDateTime, which has all the needed types and all possible import/export formats ? I'm not sure it would play nicely with Zope. So what would be easier - 1. reimplement Zope's DateTime using mxDateTime as base 2. modify Zopes DateTime (to know it is sometimes just plain date and not 12 at noon that day) and add Time to it 3. just use mxDateTime as a separate type, having just the needed formats etc. ? I would also need to implement some other types that have no corresponding python/zope types, like MONEY and NUMERIC. What would that involve and how hard would the integration with zope (especially DocumentTemplate) be ? Does OracleDA implement its own types for NUMERIC etc., or does it just loose precision and use floats/ints ? ------------------ Hannu

But, postit is designed to take input from "edit". So, it's looking for "release" and "importance" and trying to set a "score" and such. Zope Hangs

Having installed Zope 2..0.1 into a RedHat 6.0 machine with Apache 1.3.9, I have discovered that when I type './start' it does not return to the command line. When I attempt to access the control panel via my browser, I do not get the left hand window, the one with the indexing. It simply refuses to load. However, I do get the right hand window - the one with the tabs. I can get back to the command line by pressing 'Ctrl-C,' but then I get a "page cannot be displayed error when I attempt to access the 'manage' page. How do I correct this? Regards, Duncan C. Draft CatalogAware Howto and ZClass question

Hello, I started putting together a Howto on creating a CatalogAware ZClass. I mainly cut and pasted information from this list. The 1st draft can be viewed on <http://www.zope.org/Members/AlexR/CatalogAware/>. If you find inaccuracies or can offer additional information, please get in touch. This howto hasn't been submitted for cataloging yet. The process described in this howto seems to work. New object instances are indexed correctly when created and updated. I'm building KM|NetNews again and while I've been able to tackle some tricky dtml-problems with the help of this list, I've hit a brickwall again (for two days now). I'm trying to create a simple button that will approve my article, that has been submitted to my site for publication. The hierarchy of my ArticleStore is as follows: News add.html (submit form) AddArticle (dtml-method to handle form submit and save contents) 1999 (year for article's submit date) 10 (month for article's submit date) #article1_id (unique_id of article) index.html (view the article contents) edit (form to edit article, sends results to postit) postit (dtml-method to APPROVE article for publication) #article2_id ... So, how can I call article's method called "postit" from somewhere else in such a manner as to make the method work on the desired article and have it approved for publishing? I know this can be tricky to understand without me drowning you with pages of code, but this is the best I could manage. Again, I'm extremely grateful for any hints.
