Then click your the "View" tab in your ZClass, assign a view to the EditForm (make it the first view, and preferably, remove the standard properties view as well). ZClass propertysheet: Selection/Multi selection/Token - how?

Attempting to fight my way through a simple ZClass Product, I've run up against an apparently undocumented roadblock. The task: Implement a Zope Product ZClass for an Object that is merely an input form. The input forms will be thrown into a folder with ZCatalog/ZSearch to find previously entered forms. Simply put: let the user enter a pageful of form data and store it away for later retreival in a Folder. The problem: Some of the input fields are selection dropdown lists and multiple-selection lists that represent fixed options. These options will have spaces in them (killing a :token implementation). These options will need to appended to in the future. The idea: Create TinyTables as ZClass methods to enumerate the :list of items that are needed in the selection dropdown list. The attempt: Unsuccessful. No matter what I try to do, the propertysheet shows "No Value for fieldname" - or whatever I name the TinyTable to be. The working solution: Instead of using TinyTables, I can implement DTML Methods that merely return a list of options. For example, if you put the following inside a DTML method: <dtml-return "('This is the first option','This is the second option')"> you can reference the DTML method as the source variable for the selection/multi-selection variable name. But this isn't something I want to force upon the other adminstrators of the site. Perhaps the real question is "how do I efficiently manage lists of options for forms without resorting to SQL?" - Ian C. Blenke <ian(a)blenke.com> <icblenke(a)2c2.com>

Hi, I want to emphasize what others have already said. I was just trying to register some domain names. And I realized just how few 4-letters domain names were left. There are virtually all GONE! Even unpronounceable, silly names like XQZQ are taken. When you have such a simple name like ZOPE, I think you'd better truly appreciate how lucky you have been. Really, the name alone today probably worth a few million dollars. Try a few search engines, and you reach every single page related to ZOPE the software, and nothing on "zope on the rope" stuff. (Notice that searching for "Python" often gives you help on reptiles.) When you have something this precious, think twice, no, think thrice before making any change. regards, Hung Jung

Missing Properties Tab for File object

One of my users reported that he couldn't update the properties of a File object. It seems there is no tab "Properties" on the manage_main screen for objects of type "File". I know there used to be in Zope 1. Did this get lost in Zope 2? I can't think of any way I could have made it disappear, so I'm thinking DC did it. Was it dropped on purpose? ... or by mistake? There is a workaround: just add /manage_propertiesForm to the end of the URL for the object in question, and -- voila! -- there's the missing form. -- Loren

I run into an simple problem however. "include path" for DTML files

Python functions (via external method) can open DTML templates (DocumentTemplate.HTMLFile). Where must I put the template files or must I access the template files with full path ? When I call DTML methods within such a external template file that are setup with the management screen from Zope - how can I use these methods ? Since you have to use SOME format for interprocess communication, why not this one? Or SOAP, it probably doesn't matter much which one. Why roll your own implementation using http or basic sockets when it has been done already?
