Part of the reason for this escapade with Zope is a) our company is evaluating it for other reasons (we're doing it by imho far more evil methods at present <g>); b) it seemed to suit a need for serving html; c) I was all set to test a Tk version of a little app I'm prototyping only to realize I didn't have the Tk stuff set up on MOSXS. ::sigh:: And of course Gtk, Qt and so on really don't fly because there is no X. Bah. I got it working, but there was some interesting twists and turns and none of the questions i posted to "higher up" got any answers. And I'm no MacOS X Server guru. MacOS X (which is much better for -surprise surprise- non-server users) looks like it may present some new challenges. But it's also newer technology (with more benefits from MkLinux and Darwin than MacOS X Server currently has). I'll keep folks posted. And ANYONE with knowledge of how Openstep framework packages should be set up (when you don't have the luxery of making a Framework project in ProjectBuilder) I'd be delighted to hear from. ObjectiveEverything keeps its regular Python 1.4 libraries in such a Framework and I'd love to hear how to keep the two both together and seperate. And anyone who knows why I have common symbols that are not allowed with MY_DYLIB output format, I'd also love to hear from. ;) .jPS

This is (yet another) piece of nature that varies from database to database. Basically, whenever you use SQL functions as the columns you want returned, use the AS keyword. Some databases will create a column name (ie, 'a1'), others return something unusable, others won't work at all if you don't use the AS ___. The data type shouldn't be a problem. .jPS

What sort of information? You can have as many SQL statements in a SQL method as you want (seperating them with ), but only one select statement. Some databases (like Sybase) tend to return information on inserts, create tables, etc; others don't. You can follow up an INSERT statement with a SELECT statement in the same SQL method and you should get information back, but (especially where transactional databases are concerned) you might not always get back the record you just inserted (usually what people like to do just after inserting). If you don't need the record back that you just inserted, you can put them into two seperate methods and call them in the same DTML Method/Document::  <UL>  <LI></LI>  </UL> Remember, #call won't insert anything into the generated HTML, so even if it's the type of database that likes to return status tables on inserts, it won't affect the DTML. and when all else fails, experiment :)

wo_pcgi destroys site... :(

If one runs wo_pcgi.py, builds up a web site, and then a few hours later (before the nightly backups) decides to try running it on Apache ... and therefore runs w_pcgi.py in order to generate the CGI script ... then one will find that their site has been destroyed and replaced with a default QuickStart site. Yucky.

Has anyone developed something that would allow one to migrate/import a zope1 site to a zope2 site? I'd like to experiment with WebDAV, but the prospect of cutting-and-pasting scores of documents from one browser to another (as was suggested to me as a way of upgrading from 1 to 2) is an ugly one. Uhm, need more info here. Back from where to what? If your in a DTML Method, PARENTS[1] is the folder that *contains* the folder that contains your method. Remember, Methods are not 'objects' like other Zope objects (well they are object, but they're method objects ;), everything from a DTML Methods perspective is from the perspective of the folder than contains the method. So, PARENTS[0] is the Folder than contains the method that has the expression:  But even that's not *entirely* useful to you, because this is rendered as: <Folder instance at 0x848f910> PARENTS[0] is the Folder *object*.
