Has anyone developed something that would allow one to migrate/import a zope1 site to a zope2 site? I'd like to experiment with WebDAV, but the prospect of cutting-and-pasting scores of documents from one browser to another (as was suggested to me as a way of upgrading from 1 to 2) is an ugly one. Depending on how your use Zope, you can add this to your pcgi resource file (Zope.cgi) or you can run z2.py with BOBO_DEBUG_MODE=1 on the command line. Uhm, need more info here. Back from where to what? If your in a DTML Method, PARENTS[1] is the folder that *contains* the folder that contains your method. Remember, Methods are not 'objects' like other Zope objects (well they are object, but they're method objects ;), everything from a DTML Methods perspective is from the perspective of the folder than contains the method. So, PARENTS[0] is the Folder than contains the method that has the expression:  But even that's not *entirely* useful to you, because this is rendered as: <Folder instance at 0x848f910> PARENTS[0] is the Folder *object*. Zope, PostgreSQL 6.5, and some newbie questions

Ok, after fiddling around with zope of a month or so I've finally started to build something. Basically it tracks software/hardware bugs/mods in a PostgreSQL backend database. (I'm using a brand new PostgreSQL 6.5 build, which works fine, if anyone cares). After a day of coding I've got insert and view pages and a whole bunch of issues/observations/questions. Here goes. Sorry it is so long. I've been kind of saving up questions. 0) Zope looks awesome. Time will tell. 1) Is there an easy way to see error messages? Netscape (3.0) won't show me the source of a frame that had an error, so to see the stack trace I need to use lynx and backslash. 2) I want a basic view table/edit/update/delete interface to the underlying tables. Problem with Z SQL Method

I've created several Z SQL methods and they are running fine (connecting to mySQL). Now one that I'm working on gives a exceptions.KeyError: unhandled error. I don't believe it's a problem with the sql syntax because I can copy and paste the sql directly into the mysql client and it runs fine. Any suggestions? thanks, Kevin

It has been great following the discussion so far. I love Zope's architecture and I'm glad what I consider one of its weakest links is getting some attention. Since people seem to be open to considering some radical ideas, I thought I would throw my own into the mix. I have a basic problem with all of these in-line extensions. Be it PHP,ASP,JSP,Cold Fusion or DHTML, I think there is a fundamental problem with mixing layout with the generation of active/dynamic content. Most layout and graphic artist folks are simply not programmers. I believe that a user should be able to use any HTML editor to produce a basic mockup of the screen they want. The development environment (read Zope) should then provide a way to tie "active" behaviors to a pages elements. In this way you could tie a date validation procedure to a input box element. You could tie a table generation procuedure to table element and a SQL Method. You could tie multiple behaviors to the same element. This provides much greater separation of layout and coding. Using this technique you can have a few programmers developing "active" behaviors for users. Users can then use their favorite editor to layout their pages and then tie these behaviors to their elements separately. The assignment of behaviors to HTML elements would be outside of the HTML document. I realize that I'm doing a lot of handwaving here. I have a bit more detail I can provide, but I don't want to overwhelm people. If you have ever used Elemental Software's Drumbeat 2000 product you get a little of the flavor of what I'm looking for from a user perspective. If you have looked at the XMLC product that the Enhydra project has incorporated (www.enhydra.org) It provides some clues as to how it might be implemented. Basically the XMLC is a HTML compiler that compiles HTML/XML to Java Document Object Model classes that can then be manipulated dynamically to add active content. Does this resonate with anyone :-). IE FrontPage Express authoring vs. Netscape authoring

I see how nicely the Netscape Composer publishing functions works with Zope from the description given in the Zope Managers Guide, but I was wondering if there was possible for this same process to be created using FrontPage Express as the authoring tool. I haven't looked at FrontPage Express in some time and don't know if it even had a publish function, but I wondered if this had been given any thought, given the increased adoption of IE in corporations.
