Hi there folks, for those of you using xemacs and zope, what's the magic needed? I've downloaded xemacs 21.1, and the latest huge tarball of packages. When I try to login to the management screen, I'm asked for username and password, then it bombs with 'symbol's value is null: base64-encode-string' or some such. It looks like something's not installed properly, but what? not an emacs user, Anthony.

Hi all, Which is the recommended way to use a SQL database from a product (use Z SQL methods or directly the database connection ?). -- If you understand what you're doing, you're not learning anything.

I second the idea! The contribution page right now is pretty tight -- a first-time user will have no idea, for example, what "TinyTables" is by looking at the page. Reorganizing the software part of zope.org better would not only be functional, but also serve as a nice example of a dynamic Zope-built web section. And why not mix supported and unsupported software? It would be cool if most Zope tools and products -- including database adapters and components -- could be put in the same hierarchy. Moreover you should permit moderated third-party uploads, perhaps with a section called "Incoming", a holding pen for unmoderated, recently uploaded software. I think this section could be nearly autonomous, since moderating the uploads would steal very little of DC's precious time, at least theoretically -- plus, recognized authors could be given privileged access to the database (automatic acceptance of uploads, and ability to maintain own product information). Ties in rather nicely with ZPT, doesn't it? Next challenge is to be a bit more selective about which documents are displayed in the tree. For instance, could I not include objects with a 'dontIndex' property set by filtering the list that ObjectValues returns? You're right, the root object does not have a name, but that should stop you from including it in iterations, or the tree tag. External method writing to a log

I want to create an external method to append to a log file (for almost every access to the Zope site). Obviously opening and closing files this often is going to get a bit silly. Is there a way to keep a file open for the whole time that the Zope server is running? Or do I need to create some completely separate OS-level process that handles the file, and just gets called by the external method? Hi all, Here is it, my new web page, designed to receive a certificate.... I must admit, I learned more when I met Zope then that whole year.... every tuesday evening and saturday morning.... So, have a look at it ! Please. I was thinking of adding a guestbook, but I think that would give me too much trouble (people telling bad things etc) + I don't like these commercial banners.... I would really appreciate if you let me know what you think of it.... this is my first 'big' site, with my first javascripts.... What can you find in the site? 1. An short explenation of a new project I'm working on. 2. A short introduction to Zope (summary of ZBook) 3. Some examples... yes....! That's about it.... Please, have a look! You really need Netscape 4 or above or IE 5.0 for this!!!!(IE.4 gives a problem with frames and layers :-( and that is just my biggest personal achievement, ie. the submenus...) Known problem (at least with Netscape 4.07) with XWindows : the background disappears and images become ugly! (seems Linux is working with another format of images)
