Python Script Permission Problem

When I run the following python script, Zope asks me to log in. I would like for it NOT to require authorization. But, even when I login with a valid Zope Administrator uid/pwd, it won't work. FS Counter HELP

Hello, I am having some problems in setting up this product? I would like to create an idividual counts of views for each document, similarly to www.zopezen.org where you have a count of number of views per item and number of replies. Will this be better done using python scripts/ External Methods or a product like FS Counter be sufficient. Any advice and pointers would be greatly appreciated. UltraseekDA and Inktomi Search 4.1

I've been trying to set up Ultraseek Data Adapter with Inktomi Search 4.1 and after following the USeek's side instructions, I haven't succeed at creating the adapter within Zope. I think you will have to take this from a slightly different perspective. No, you cannot access Zope's ODB from ODBC, since ODBC is only useful from relational datasets. However, you can use RPC protocols from within MS dev tools like XML-RPC which will allow you to create methods that can be used for remote invocation from other programs if you need other tools to have access to date in the object-database. Exporting data to excel, for example, might involve some sode that creates CSV text in a DTML method, and scraping that with a VBA macro in Excel; that wouldn't be too difficult. That said, as far as corruption goes, there are tools out there to repair a broken ZODB by analyzing the transactions within a Data.fs file, and then using python to correct them. Eventually, also, Zope/ZEO will have some replication features (though there are some brute force methods of doing this already) that could be used in an HA-cluster arrangement. If nothing else, use your favorite relational database, and wrap the datasets in object-oriented code to provide a standardized object API to access the data; that way, if you decide to move the data into the ODB you could do it transparently... Corruption protection

Forgive an important but nieve( I think) concern. If I start to use Zope as a database I'm concerned about database corruption and transferability. When a table becomes corrupt in Access it is usually easily fixed or replaced from backup as a last resort. I think PostgreSQL uses seperate files for it's tables so the can be replace if needed. What happens if the Zope database gets corrupt? It is a monolithic file. Also, what about exporting data for use in a different database or program? Can I read the zope database with ODBC? If I ever needed to convert to another database what about exporting the data? These are questions I'm going to have to answer in justifying introducing Zope. I already bought the t-shirt so I'm really hoping I can make this fly at work. -mjm

Deletion Problems

Here is one for the gurus out there. I am trying to set up a Zope site that can be editited by many people. I am setting permissions at the object level, that is I am using local roles to give people permissions to DTML Documents only, and not to folders. My problem is... I am having problems setting Deletion privilages - If I give deletion privalages to a folder, the person I give the permissions to can delete everything in that folder, that is not what I want!!! - If I give a user permission to delete a particular DTML Document, the delete button does not appear. - I editid the code in the main.dtml document so that the delete button will appear all the time, but if the person clicks it, zope will not allow the user to delete it, even thought he/she has permissions to delete it via local roles.....ahhhhh Can anyone help me out on this one? Mail Host Problem

I am getting the following error when trying to send mail: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: len() of unsized object The sendmail tag and the mailhost look correct. Making Variations More Compact

Hi; Two related questions: #1: If I want to serve different pages depending on variables such as screen res, language, etc., is there a way (or product) whereby after testing for those variables I can capture the results of my test into a Zope method? For example, let's say I capture screen resolution. Right now, I capture screen res with a Javascript, then I direct traffic to two different folders, depending on whether they're surfing at 800*600 or 1024*786. When I add another variable, such as language, suddenly things get blown out of proportion. If I could convert what I capture into a Zope method then I could dispense with all these folders! #2: Is there a way to create *one* big Zope method with a bunch of little Zope methods within it? For example, if I want to make my pages available in multiple languages, then I need to assign <dtml-var xxx> tags to all text. Next, I need to create these Zope methods. Well, that's a lot of Zope methods! It would be easier if I could reference a page that had them all in it, and Zope could search for the right ones. In other words, a page of all translation of text into English for *one* Web page with all the associated Zope methods, etc. Is this possible? TIA, BenO
