I am trying to make my life easier by listining to what I am told... http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/instancehome Problem is I can not find the stop script anywhere in the Zope 2.4.0 Windows .exe that I installed as a manual start on Windows2000 in order to fulfill the instructions: "Edit stop so that the path it uses leads to the site's var, not the Zope installation." I assume not doing so causes the error message I am getting when I use the web UI to shut down the server: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. exceptions.SystemExit Zope has exited normally. Discovering the path and querying on it....

I would like to query a table based on the current object I am working on. For example...I am trying to populate a menu, and I want it dynamically filled based on the page I am on. I know how to get the path, I am using : <dtml-var PATH_INFO> I have a Z SQL Method that looks like this: SELECT menu_item, link_path FROM page_links WHERE page_path = <dtml-sqlvar page_path type=string> What I want is to be able to populate page_path using something like this (I know it doesn't work): <dtml-in exec="page_links_query(page_path=PATH_INFO)"> <A HREF="menu_path"><dtml-var menu_item><BR></A> </dtml-in> Anyone know how I could do this? acquisition and permissions (newby)

Hi all, I need advice on the best strategy on how to manage hierarchical permissions without having to give up on acquisition. Here is my situation (quite standard, I guess): I have a top folder with a top ACL and a set of standard files (global.css, index_html, standard_html_*, breadcrumb_nav). I then have a subfolder with its own ACL. It could be nice I could acquire the standard files from the top folder without having to mantain multiple copies in the subfolder in order to avoid access errors. Currently I keep multiple copies of the standard files, but this is particularly annoying for the breadcrumb, as it must contain quite a lot of <dtml-try> in order to test the various PARENTS conditions, depending both on the role of the user and on the folder where breadcrumb lives in. I am sure I am doing something wrong !!! Any pointer would be appreciated, TIA, --peppo

Hi Mitchell, Please try to keep the discussion on the list... thanks! Yes... for instance if you create a Python class as a base class for a ZClass (by using one of several mechanisms... for an example see the ZCatalog Product's __init__.py where it does "createZClassForBase"), you can use a strategy where you subclass *only* from this class (it'll appear in the list of classes from which you can subclass in the ZClass creation interface). Then rebase that Python class to your heart's content without needing to rebase the ZClass at all. This works pretty well in practice. manage_clone and proxy roles

I have a folder "test" and in the folder "test" there is another folder "f". I want to have a method (preferably a python method) which creates a copy of "f" in the folder "test" and I want anyone to be able to do it (not just managers) so, I created a python method "c" as: context.manage_clone(context.test.f, 'f2') return "done" which works fine when I am logged in as manager, but throws up a login dialog when I am not. No problem, I figure, set the proxy role on "c" to 'Manager' and everything should be cool. Nope. Hmm. I think maybe this is not possible from python methods, so I try a dtml-method, as such: <dtml-call "manage_clone(f, 'f3')"> done Again, works fine when I am logged in as manager, but even if I set the proxy role on the method to 'Manager' I get the login dialog. Assign properties to the appropriate folders. Just as Title is a property, you can create a property called orgloc and assign it a value. You can get to properties from the manage screen. Click into a folder, click the properties tab. I just want a way for each folder to register values of whatever variables it wants to override, for use by parameterized pages.
