There is no MKD hook, it is hard-wired to call manage_addFolder (see ZServer/FTPRequest.py). So I suppose you'd have to write your own handler if you need to control this behaviour. Best way to serve structured data - pointers needed

I am contemplating to start a project to build a site for storing and serving structured data (animal training plans in my case). I'm a bit overwhelmed by what's available, so I would appreciate any advice and pointers to Zope products and documentation. The format of the data is fairly simple, basically a datum is just a list of items. Since I want my users to be able to download data in a way that preserves structure, I am leaning towards using XML. I don't really need all the fancy features provided by the various Zope XML products, so I'll probably write my own parser in a couple of lines of Python. The partial requirements are as follows: - It should be possible to view training plans in nicely formatted HTML. - It should also be possible to upload and download training plans as raw XML. - It should be possible to browse plans by categories and by full text search. - Training plans should have relationships (e.g. plan X is derived from plan Y) that users can query (e.g. show me all the training plans derived from Z). I have a rough idea of how to do this in Zope, but I would hate to put a lot of effort into it just to discover that there happens to be a product that would make the whole thing trivial. When doing a select from a mySQL that should redurn over 4000 lines, only the first 1000 seems to get listed. How do i make the call return the entire range of hits?

Sorting by type doesn't always place the directories at top (say you have an object of type 'application/octet-stream'). Also, I don't want the *files* to be sorted by type. They're all images -- whether jpg or gif should be inconsequential. So the real task is to display all the directories, and then display the non-directories. I've decided to use tpValues(), but have discovered it lacks some variables otherwise provided by objectValues(). I'm working on correcting that problem. ---------- Keith J. I'm sure this is officially discouraged, but is there a Zope object that I can point at a directory on my filesystem and get a heirarchy to appear within Zope for the purposes of management? I mainly want to be able to let my content developer access the files I am serving, while publishing them with Apache. ZODB based Product problem

Don´t forget. I´m spanish and my english may not be enough good. Have fun with this e-mail. I´ve been a lot of time looking for documentation, studing it and trying to develop usefull things with ZODB. Here is my problem. Well. I´m working in a Product in wich I use a ZODB to store data. I don´t use Data.fs, I´m trying to use the ZODB with my own file and collection. I have a product with this properties or attributes: id: the id of the instance. title: the title ZODBFile: The ZODB where the user want to store the data. I use this name to construct a FileStorage wich is like '<ZOPEDIR>/lib/python/Products/MyZProduct/var/' + ZODBFile + '.fs colection: The colection inside the ZODBFile. When someone wants to add a MyZProduct instance, I show a form to fill this attributes. Well, the __init__ is like this: def __init__(self,id,title,ZODBFile,Colection): self.id=id self.title=title self.ZODBFile=ZODBFile self.Collection=Colection #Now try to connect to the database self.colection=FileStorage('<ZOPEDIR>/.......#and the name of the ZODBFile This last line make the Zope to raise an Error Message in commit in Connection object. I don´t remember now (I´m not at work), but something like: "Attempt to store data from a remote database connection" ??????????. What´s the problem?. May my ZProduct inherit some other Class or ZClass to be able to store the data?. Later I do a self.connection=db.open(). Another problem with this line. I can´t save in my class attributes this objects. The colection, neither the connection, and I need both to make the ZODB navigation, and the ZODB open and close methods. problems with NT services

I've been experiencing problems with my installation of Zope. the installation itself is run on an NT 4.0 server, and I'm having trouble starting the service so that I can use the system from my own workstation. Since you have produced a how-to about installing and upgrading Zope, I thought someone might be able to help. basically, whenever I try to start the service, I get the following windows message: Error 2140: Internal Windows NT error has occurred. This started happening for no apparent reason earlier today, and I am at a loss to explain it. has anyone ever had any experience of such a problem, or do you know someone I can get into contact with regarding the problem. Since there has been rather a lot of work done on the web site since the last backup, I would be reluctant, if at all possible, to reinstall Zope altogether, however any assistance anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

CMF Intro?

I see that Zope has these cool things: o User Management and Permissions control o Version Control o Undo o Web-based GUI for site administration o ZPT and WebDAV support for working with things like SiteBuilder, FrontPage, etc. under OS X and WinXP These are all hallmarks of a great Content Management System. I can easily see how I'd divide up my clients' corporate website using Zope. So my question is: WTF is "CMF" for? What problem does it try to solve? How is it different from, well, plain old Zope? I've read the "Introduction" at http://cmf.zope.org/doc/introduction.txt But it doesn't answer my question. (Honestly, it provides practically no information whatsoever and reads like a marketing document. Sorry to whoever wrote it.) It refers to "services" with names like "SiteDesignServices" and "IntegrationServices", but I have to clue what those are or where to find more information about them, or why I'd want them. I've also read [much of] http://cmf.zope.org/CMF/Members/beehive/ZWACKChap5.html ...which shows me that CMF hides the Zope admin interface to endusers. Is that the whole point of CMF? Also, from this I see that CMF provides basic "types" such as "File", "Document", "Image", and "Folder". Are these different from Zope's types of the same name? Or are they the same thing? I have not yet d/led and installed--that's my next step. But I'd like to have a document, case study, or demo that I can show my client before I put more billable hours into this. Please advise.
