I keep seeing references to using SSL with Zserver, but I cant seem to find out how to.... When reading M2Crypto documentation, I notice that it is for NT versions of Zope (using Linux...) I thought I saw somewhere that Zope 2.5 supported SSL, but now I cant find that reference either.... I hacked through a workaround using APACHE and ZServer but it only kinda worked and I didnt feel comfortable running an instance of apache just for SSL There is some discussion, rather old, integration of an SSL server in Zope, did that ever happen? If it did, where do I find out how to use it? OR perhaps I should consider something else? What I am trying to do is use authentication over a secured channel to determine an enduser and their roles *without* asking them to login in again..... I know from the HTTP_REFER variable that they have already validated and I dont wnat to make them login in again..... If anyone has any slick suggestion on how I might do this easily, I would greatly appreciate it.... TIA WPH

Here is a low hassle work around if you run Redhat Linux 7.2 Install the Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86.tgz or latest. Just untar it, start it, connect and you are en-route. This version of Zope already has the needed Python 2.2 installed and Zope does a fine job of finding and executing the local Python 2.2. I run RH 7.2 and I have installed Zope 2.5.0 in an oddball disk area that has no path. Zope uses it's own copy of Python. In short: all by itself the tar file seems to be a pretty complete package. ---- I have had to do some Python filename tinkering and installing in the course of installing a PostgreSQL database Product. What seems to be going on is some Zope products are developed under Debian. When compiling a database adapter, the compiler expected to see header files in the Debian location. I just found the files with locate, fixed the "include" statements and proceeded to compile. When I have my Database connection tested and working, then I will try and post back the detail fixes so other RH 7.2 users can save a few hours. If anything puzzles me it is the use of the phrase "Zope binary". It seems to me that Zope is written in an interpreted language called Python. The tar file is a bunch of Python scripts: Zope is a scripts, most Products are scripts, there is a Python executable I guess. Of course I am not sure I understand it all that well, I have not suceeded in "grepping the source" and understanding what I see... yet.

Zope "picky" on Redhat Linux with Python1.5.2 and 2.2

I'm running Redhat Linux 7 and have installed Python2.2. However, the default Python on my system is Python1.5.2 (ie. if you type "python" at the command prompt, that's what you'll get). My scripts that wish to use Python2 usually have to state it explicitly with #!/usr/bin/python2. Why do I do this ? because Redhat use Python to create a lot of their software programs and some of them apparently only work with Python1.5.2 (which is what they distribute by default). Anyways, I now wish to install Zope2.5.0. I first downloaded the linux version Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86 but notice that it is a precompiled binary and uses an install script (named "install" unsurprisingly) which uses the environmental Python home. Knowing that Zope2.5 requires Python2 and won't work with Python1.5.2, I decided it would be safer to get the Zope source, which I did and tried to install with the command /usr/bin/python2 w_pcgi.py But then it failed with a rather funny-sounding "if i and picky" error. cp: cannot stat `/usr/lib/python2.2/config/Makefile.pre.in': No such file or directory Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/w_pcgi.py", line 39, in ? if __name__=='__main__': main(sys.argv[0]) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/w_pcgi.py", line 37, in main import wo_pcgi; wo_pcgi.main(me) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/wo_pcgi.py", line 33, in main import build_extensions File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/inst/build_extensions.py", line 30, in ? make('lib','python') File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/inst/do.py", line 61, in make do("cp %s ." % wheres_Makefile_pre_in()) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0/inst/do.py", line 32, in do if i and picky: raise SystemError, i So, I'm wondering how should I install Python2.5 on Redhat linux ? What do most people do with Zope logs?

Since I'm now using Zope behind Apache (www.emsoftware.com) using a set of RewriteRules, shouldn't I turn off (-l /dev/null) the Zope log, which is mostly redundant? It builds up might fast... -- Cheers! Chris Ryland Em Software, Inc. www.emsoftware.com

Hi, I installed Zope 2.5.1b2 + CMF1.2 + Plone 0.9.9PR5 Restart zope: 90 seconds. Log into /manage: 7 (!) minutes. Next pages in /manage: 5-20 seconds Site itself: 5-10 seconds During all these attempts, z2.py is in the top of `top`. I tried to add RAM cache manager, but only Members/index_html shows as cacheable when I try to associate. All this on a Pentium 233, 128MB, no swapping. Hardly any other activity on this machine. Is there a way to profile this? I know nothing about python, but am a proficient sysadmin, C, perl, PHP programmer. Thanks, Ron Arts

Templates and Attributes

Hello, everyone. I'm trying to create a page for editing a database entry. The form I'm using has a pair of radio buttons for a person's gender. I'm using the page template's tal:attribute feature to set the default values of all the text input fields, and that works great. But I can't figure out how to do this with the radio buttons, since they don't use the format 'value="CHECKED"', they simply use 'CHECKED'. The tal:attribute command seems to want the 'field=value' format, which HTML doesn't want. Here's a line from my template page: <td> <input type="radio" name="gender" value="M" ischecked tal:attributes="ischecked python:here.checkbox_test(here.gender,'M')" tabindex="3"> Male</td> I tried to trick it with an artificial 'ischecked' flag (hoping it would simply be replaced), but I end up with 'ischecked="CHECKED"'. Has anyone done this, or can anyone point me to some code that does it? I haven't found any examples or tutorials yet that describe this specific problem. Internationalization, locale support etc.

Hello, I am confused about the many products available for localization. Suppose I want to build a multi-language site (which might use CMF, but not plone). It should have monetary support, searches, but only for latin alphabets, so no cyrillic, chinese, arab etc. Which product(s) should I install? SYNC ZOPE SERVER ?

Hi, i have 2 ZOPE Servers. One inside my network and one on the internet. now can someone tell me ? ...how i can sync some objects / folders between two zope server ? I mean .. Server A contacts Server B, transfer the data to B , B is available with the DATA from A Or is this posible ? Server A contacts Server B, transfer the data to B , B replaced the "old" data with the "new" data ?
