hi; I'm wondering if anyone has experience setting up iptables for Zope FTP access. I need to add this service to my machine, but am not sure what an appropriate set of rules would be. passing value to sql method question

Hi, Learning dtml and zope... I am trying to call an sql method called get_record and pass a parameter to it. This works if I hardcode the value into the dtml method like this: <dtml-in expr="get_record(PermitNumber=12345)"> However, The above line is in a dtml method called edit_dtml So I want to call edit_dtml from an html document like this: <a href="edit_dtml?PermitNumber=<dtml-var PermitNumber>"> <dtml-var Company null=""></a> The value of PermitNumber gets passed okay and can be displayed in the called page (edit_dtml) with: <dtml-var PermitNumber> But I need to plug it into the dtml-in expresssion something like this: <dtml-in expr="get_record(PermitNumber=<dtml-var PermitNumber>)"> But this generates a syntax error. There must be a correct way to do this. Any ideas on how else I might do it? I assume that the part after expr=" must be python code and this is why this does not work ?? Form OPTION and Display of SELECTED Value

I have the following code to display options, one of which has already been selected: <input type="hidden" name="categories" size="35" value="Feature Bytes Faculty Students Research Alumni Giving"> <SELECT name="category"> <dtml-in categories> <dtml-if "sequence-item==category"> <OPTION value="<dtml-var sequence-item>" selected><dtml-var sequence-item></OPTION> <dtml-else> <OPTION value="<dtml-var sequence-item>"><dtml-var sequence-item></OPTION> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </SELECT> This should display a list of the categories, with the correct one selected. This does not work however thanks to a NameError. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the correct code? - Alex

Does LocalFS support WEBDAV?

Hi, All. I added a LocalFS to my zope and can browse it fine within ZMI. But cadaver says it's not WEBDAV enabled. It's also not presented as a collection. Does LocalFS support WEBDAV? thanks -Kevin

External script question

I have an external script that runs fine when I invoke it from the shell as user "zope". However, when I try and run this script from the "Test" tab within the ZMI, it fails. Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution for this? Thanks, Kevin

problem with LDAPUserFolder 1.5b1

Hi, I've installed openldap 2.0.23 on a server and a client and all seems to work fine (AFAICTAICTM) In Zope I've installed LDAPUserFolder 1.5b1 and I can see no group. I can see all users though. My users base DN is : ou=People,dc=my,dc=domain,dc=org My groups base DN is : ou=Group,dc=my,dc=domain,dc=org Both ZLDAPConnection and ZLDAPMethod seem to work ok. Since it's openlap and not Netscape's one I don't think the restictions mentionned in th README apply, but I really don't know much. any help appreciated. Jerome Alet

Using Python Modules in Zope

For Python, there exists the module "NumPy" (Numerical Python) which provides good tools to manipulate arrays. I would like to use this in Zope as well for a Python Script. I tried to install it for the Zope's Python but I can't import the modules: E.g. from Numeric import array does not work, when I use this in a Python Script in Zope. Have you got any ideas? Thanks in advance! Chris

Problems with QUERY_STRING

Hi, I'm trying to do the following: First I split the QUERY_STRING variable and join it with dots: <dtml-let splitpath="_.string.split(QUERY_STRING,'/')" training="_.string.join(splitpath[1:],'.')"> So I get the following: training = path.to.training Then I want to get the attributes of the training with the dtml-with tag: <dtml-with "training"> <table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%"> <tr><td>Institute:</td><td><dtml-var institute></td></tr> <tr><td>Location:</td><td><dtml-var location></td></tr> <tr><td>Title training:</td><td><dtml-var title></td></tr> <tr><td>Start date:</td><td><dtml-var date_start></td></tr> <tr><td>Stop date:</td><td><dtml-var date_stop></td></tr> </table> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> Institute, location etc are attributes of my ZClass Training. The 'with' tag doesn't work; I get KeyErrors. Max M gave me the following solution: You can traverse Zope with a path from code directly. You must use the restrictedTraverse() method.. Asuming that: QUERY_STRING='path/to/training' You can just do it like: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('training', getPhysicalRoot().restrictedTraverse(QUERY_STRING))"> <dtml.with training> ... etc. But the getPhysicalRoot() method gives me a NameError: NameError: global name 'getPhysicalRoot' is not defined and an AttributeError when I tried it like this: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('training', PARENTS[1].getPhysicalRoot().restrictedTraverse(QUERY_STRING))"> So I tried the following: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('training', ROOT().restrictedTraverse(QUERY_STRING))"> Where ROOT is a Python Script in the Root of Zope that does the following: return container But 'training' now is an <Application instance at 91b6bf0>. Hi all, As yet another iteration in a very image intensive product, I'm trying to build a tree of images. They are generated procedurally, and may differ from installation to installation (they don't currently, but they probably will). So it's much more convenient to generate them procedurally in the manage_add<my-product>() function than to store them in, say, a .zexp file. (I also tried making them on-the- fly, but that's a whole 'nother story). Nevertheless, it takes quite awhile for PIL to chunk through all those images (currently 2880). If I just use a straight iteration, the browser will time-out during the installation process, which is kind of ugly, and will no doubt freak out my potential user/ administrator. Also, it's not absolutely clear to me that Zope won't cut me off somehow if my request takes too long. (Any reassurances/warnings on this point?). Alternatively, I can put components of the installation process into separate threads. This nicely drops me back into the management interface and runs the object-building process in the background. However, I then have to think about checking it to make sure it's done (probably I can handle this, though I haven't yet -- I just check it manually later). The big headache though, is that with the threaded version, I have folders disappear out of the management interface! If I wait long enough, eventually they just start to disappear. Same thing if I restart. So the persistence machinery must not be working in the threaded case. But why not? The code is essentially the same, except that in the non-threaded version I just call the function, whereas in the threaded version, I create a thread to run it with threading.Thread(). I do this at the highest level in the loop, which means about 4 threads should be started, which I wouldn't think would tax my system (an earlier version with about 50 threads did cause a massive slowdown). Both versions use ordinary 'Folder' objects and create them using the Zope API with manage_addFolder() calls on the parent folders. Should I abandon threading here? (and just document this in the INSTALL file). Should I use full-fledged processes? Or am I just forgetting to do something? (I've done almost no threaded programming before this -- I did run a threaded test version of this code that generated the files on the filesystem outside of Zope. All my tests with that version went fine.).
