Should lambda method be legal or not?

I ran across this limitation in part of a product design. Here I've reduced it to a kind of minimal case for illustration. I don't know whether to call it a bug or not, because I'm not sure it *should* be possible to do this. I'd be interested in opinions. If there's a consensus that its a bug I'll submit it to the collector, otherwise, I'll just be enlightened. :-) The code: #--------------------------------------------- # # MyFolder -- Test subclassing from Folder: # #--------------------------------------------- class MyFolder(OFS.Folder.Folder): """ MyFolder tests subclassing from folder. The only thing I've done is add a method "mymethod" which happens to be defined by an anonymous function (lambda). Obviously I would've used something less trivial than "2" in practice. Defined like this, I can add this object through the Zope management interface, and it behaves exactly as I would expect it to. Until I restart. In my reduced example, it's sort of contrived). I note also that lambda doesn't appear to have any way to assign the docstring required by Zope for publishing, so maybe that in itself is reason enough not to do this. In my original problem, lambda seemed to be a useful tool, since the result was a trivial case (other functions used a more complex callable class, but I just put in a lambda for the trivial case). Clearly, I'm just going to avoid using lambda like this in the future, but should I have been able to? It seems kind of fuzzy to me either way, so I'd be interested in the reasoning either way. Publishing pure HTML

I have a fairly large site with lots of images ( >10,000) that I want to publish in a CMF/Plone environment. It's a requirement that the HTML stuff be available in a file system and incrementally mutable. Moreover, the link structure should not be changed so the site can be run standalone as well as integrated into a Zope wrapper. Finally, parts of the the HTML site need to be renderable inside Zope objects. The ExternalFile Product gets me part of the way there but there are pproblems becasue it works with wrappers and mimics DTML publication. Every reference file needs a wrapper. Files are treated as if they were DTML Documents, Images, or whatever. But they are still processed as if they contained dynamic content.

Zclass and Permissions: Delete Instances?

hi@all, ok - there is an "Add ***" permission mapped to "Create class instances" per default. i also know how to create a new custom permission in the product´s folder, how to add it to the zclass "Class Permission" and how to map a zclass-propertysheet´s "Manage properties" permission to my custom permission. but is there also a possibility to map the "Delete Objects" permission regarding a certain zclass to a custom permission? /wolfie -- http://www.t0.or.at

Have not looked recently, but are there any 'hand-holding' guides to the very basic "Hello World" steps in setting up the new sessioning stuff? We use SQLSession and was wondering how close they are in syntax and how much we will have to change for the new stuff. Also, can the two be used together?? CST vs Zope Sessions

Hi all, Can anybody provide me with reasons as to why or why shouldnt I use CST as compared to the session product that comes with Zope 2.5.x?? On my part I found that CST was a little easier to use and gave me more flexible and simpler interface.(just from an initial attempt at trying out both) Platform: Zope 2.5.0 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.2, win32 to be migrated to RH 7.2 Knowledge level: Zope : 4/10 DTML : 5-6/10 (not very polished but can get the job done) Python : 4-5/10 (sure as hell hope so!!) Writing products : Cant say, I was able to modify mysqluserfolder (removed sessions and cookies and used Cookie Crumbler and CST... hence the question) to my own needs and it works but has some glitches (regarding roles) I hope to fix at some point of time. Problems with GET method

Hi, I'm working on a ZClass for Trainings. The visitors of the site have to be able to fill in a form online to join a training. At top of the form there is first shown some information about the training. I want to show this info with the GET method of a hyperlink. Like this: <a href="/form/main?<dtml-var PATH_INFO>" methods="GET">Online sign-up</a> The following thing to do is split the PATH_INFO variable and join it with dots: <dtml-let splitpath="_.string.split(QUERY_STRING,'/')" training="_.string.join(splitpath[1:],'.')"> Then I want to get the attributes of the training with the dtml-with tag: <dtml-with "training"> <table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%"> <tr><td>Institute:</td><td><dtml-var institute></td></tr> <tr><td>Location:</td><td><dtml-var location></td></tr> <tr><td>Title training:</td><td><dtml-var title></td></tr> <tr><td>Start date:</td><td><dtml-var date_start></td></tr> <tr><td>Stop date:</td><td><dtml-var date_stop></td></tr> </table> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> Institute, location etc are attributes of the ZClass Training. ASP and ZOPE

Hello, Is there any solution for legacy code of ASP in Zope Template? I was thinking in a Zope product to make something like a proxy from ASP pages to Zope Template? This product will make a call to IIS ASP Server and parse HTML code in order to adapt it to Zope Template. It is only an ideia. I don't know if it will run very well. -- Marco Catunda

no properties tab for portal_skins

I'm starting to use CMF 1.2 and I've created a new directory in the portal_skins tool. I'd like to make this skin available to users and my understanding is that I need to add this directory name to the list of skins in the Properties tab of portal_skins. Unfortunately, portal_skins doesn't show a properties tab even as administrator. Ideas? -- Bryan C. Since you use Zope 2.5, you've got Python 2.1 installed on your server. You could use the command "whereis python2" to find a path to that version. On my Debian Woody box, I can invoke 2.1 directly through /usr/bin/python2.1.
