Local Roles via LDAP? NuxUserGroups?

Hi All, If I replace the root userfolder of a ZODB with an LDAP User Folder, will I still be able to grant local roles to users defined in that user folder in certain parts of the tree? The idea here is that in a CMS, you want some people to only be able to maintain content in certain areas of the site. Am I correct in assuming that the 'official' way of doing this in Zope is to give those users an anonymous role at the root of the ZODB and then give them local roles appropriate to a content maintainer in the folders where they're allowed to maintain content? If so, how would one go about giving a group of people that content maintaining role in an area of a site? Hmmm, I guess if I could grant a 'role' the local role in those areas then I could get what I'm after. Would NuxUSerGroups help in this area at all? Do they work with LDAPUserFolder? cheers, Chris

Thanks Chris, you jogged my memory. Instead of calling manage_uploadForm, I used the "form" section from manage_uploadForm and called manage_upload. Zope Book

Hi folks, Lately, there have been a lot of comments made to the online version of the Zope Book at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZopeBook/ to the effect of "when the hell is this thing going to be updated?" ;-) In the interest of preventing myself to need to answer this question in response to many disparate comments made to the book inline, please know that I am working on revising the book for the Zope 2.6 release and I will send a message out when the revision is complete and the new edition is online. Improving CMS Performance: Help Needed

Hi Folks! We have developed a nice CMS ontop of Zope, that dynamically renders pages (with DTML and a python Product) out of special Components (e.g. text blocks and headlines). The only bad thing is: The Performance really sucks. I experienced that Zope is able to serve ~50 REQUESTs per Second on a small static page (where apache does 1500-2200), but under heavy DTML- and Python usage, Zope will only be able to serve ~ 0,5 - 5 pages per second (depending on how big the page is and how complicated its python logic). Well, i am aware of the fact that cache managers are able to dramatically improve performance, but in most cases, our content and pages are just too dynamic for the application to work w/ enabled cache (RAM or HTTP or ProxyPass). Does anyone know some hints how to get more performance out of zope? Any common Python / DTML routines that cost way too much time? Any experiances in improving Zope's speed? System is Zope-2.5.1 on FreeBSD-4-Stable and Python 2.1.3. Look for browser id name in forms only

Hi, it seems to me that setting this checkbutton in the Settings tab of the browserIdManager doesn't automatically put any hidden field into the pages produced by Zope. Worse of all, the REQUEST object still has something like _ZopeId=somealphanumericcodehere in its 'HTTP_COOKIE' field. So the questions are: 1. do I have to manually code the form hidden fields containing the _ZopeId value? 2. why do I still get _ZopeId in the cookies, when I set the 'Look for browser id name in' checkbox to 'forms only'? Problems inserting into MySQL

I'm working on a site whose data is stored in MySQL. So far I've had no problems with the database connection, but one just came up. The user fills in a form, and the submit calls a Python script that formats the data and passes it to the Z SQL Method that contains the INSERT INTO command. The only data access is this single INSERT command, and it succeeds, at least in the sense that the data is properly inserted into the table. But I get this ugly and hard to understand error message: <H2>Site Error</H2> <P>An error was encountered while publishing this resource. </P> <P><STRONG>_mysql_exceptions.NotSupportedError</STRONG></P> Sorry, a site error occurred.<p>  OK, I get that something's wrong, but how do I go about figuring out the problem? I tried using the src__=1 trick to view the generated SQL statement, and that was fine: if I plugged it into a MySQL GUI interface, it ran without problem. How to add a property to a file system product class ?

Hi everybody, I have a file system product, it has a class with some properties, but I now need to add a new property to the class, it works ok for the new objects that get created, but the old objects doesn't have the new property added, so when I try to display it, zope gives me an error. python scripts,zsql methods and many parameters

I am beginning to experiment with python scripts and can't seem to find any code examples to do the specific operation I'm trying. To be specific, I want to insert a record into a database by calling a zsql method and passing it 8 individual parameters.
