what product for authentication from db?

Zope newbie here... I have a group of users on an existing system that holds user/password info in a postgres database. I now am building a Zope application that these same users will log into. I want to authenticate from my database. I can't make out which product is best and most up-to-date for this -- the New Riders Zope Book talks about LoginManager, but it apparently won't work with the most recent Zope. We used PayPal for one of our small projects. I had a ticket(s) to sell to an event. The user filled out info on a form and when they submitted that form, it wrote the info to our DB. The next page had a link to pay online via PayPal. They clicked that and did their thing on PP and the final confirmation link went back to our site with a hidden field which contained the userid originally inserted into my table AND passed on to PP. Their record was updated with a PAID status and we just went to PP and checked on the order details. Sort of a cheesy way to handle it, really, but it worked. Ideally, one would write a python program to handle the auto-confirmation coming back in from PayPal. I inquired about this a while back and did not have the knowledge to do it myself. Seems like a Python wizard could whip this out in a few minutes... Its all on the PP website as to how to handle this transaction. Seems like it would be a GREAT thing to have as a Zope product in the form of Python External methods. Why or why not? 2. Do credit card companies have a standard module or program to have online payments on your website? 3. Is there a way to let people fill out a online 'authorization form'? I don't know the correct term for this in English. What I mean is that someone gives you the right to let you withdraw a certain amount from his/her bankaccount. This might be only once or regularly (say once a month) depending on what this person filled out on that 'authorization form'. 4. It there a *** preferred ;-) *** product available for Zope? 5. Any other (better) ideas/experiences for online payments? ports install on FreeBSD 4.5

Zope won't install from the ports tree, throwing this error: PKG_PREFIX=/usr/local /bin/sh pkg-install zope-2.5.1_2 PRE-INSTALL pkg-install: UID: readonly variable I fixed it by editing pkg-install and replacing all instances of UID with ZUID. It looks to me like the intent of the script is to set what UID and GID Zope runs under, and echo $UID returns a value which the script is not allowed to overwrite. -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: A Scientific Venture...

ExternalEditor permission matters

My first visit today was http://myhost:8080/somefolder/manage and from there I tried to use the ExternalEditor thing ( this was windows) but it didn't work becuase of an unauthorized error message in the Zope External Editor. As soon as I once had visited http://myhost:8080/manage everything was working fine again. In /somefolder/ I have a cookie_crumbler instance if that matters. Anyways. This fooled me into thinking there was a bug with ExternalEditor but it was more likely a ugly webdav trick I didn't spot. Maybe worth a warning on the product page. Hi! Which index should I use if I want to index dates? How can I search between date ranges? Is there a mirror of zope? I need the zopeBook, but zope.org is very slow at the moment. thomas

Recovery Disaster :(

I'm in a big bind. During a server upgrade our tape unit ate our backup tape. :( So our Data.fs file is not recoverable. We have an XML export of the root folder of Zope (it's about 300MB), which has everything we need. But, it will not load into our new Zope. The export was made from a RedHat 7.2 system running Zope 2.5, were trying to import the xml file into the root folder on a FreeBSD 4.6 system running Zope 2.5.1. Just to complicate things, in one of the development trees there was a single instance of a ZPoPy database adapter and a ZSQL referencing it. This product did not exist any more, but the object was not removed. After about a 20 minute import, the the logfile created from Z2.py's stdout shows the text below (followed by 15 more POSKeyError's). Thank you for any suggestions. Maybe it's an idea to create a list (or database, or spreadsheet) on Zope.org that shows the 'preferred product' per task. Since I'm quite new to Zope it's better that someone more experienced creates it AND keeps it up to date (otherwise it wouldn't be usefull). :-) Something like this I think would be helpfull: - task - short task description - preferred product - short preferred product description - since when it's a preferred product - since which Zope-version it's a preferred product - link to extensive product description Hopefuly somebody has a crack at it. ;-) Yvon Breuer
