How do I setup a STUPID_LOG_FILE for Zope on Windows? Zope (2.5.1) is running as a server on Windows XP. Does PythonService.exe just run start.bat in the root of Zope? Thanks, // mark -

Programmatically creating instances of a ZClass

I have a Zope Product 'MyProduct' that defines a ZClass 'MyZClass'. I'd like to create instances of this ZClass in a python script. I couldn't find any info on how to do that in 'The Zope Book'. I tried something like: myObject=Container.MyFolder.manage_addProduct['MyProduct'].manage_addMyZClass(id=myId) but it didn't work. Any help will be appreciated. --Borislav

Zope/Python Error -- Please Help!

Hello everyone. I'm new to this list and still a newbie to Zope/Python. I have spent weeks developing an intranet with the Python/Zope product. I had the pages designed, had certain products installed and customized to my liking, etc. and all was well but today I encountered what might have been a fatal error to Zope and now I cannot even access it through the management screen and python is returning a series of errors and then kicking out its connection to Zope. I have posted a file on the web that includes screen captures (I hope this is ok..I don't know what else to do!) that will hopefully provide someone who is far more advanced than I some insight to this problem and perhaps provide a resolution. It is a WordPad file and in it I also explain the events leading up to the errors, etc. as well as screen captures of the errors. I certainly appreciate any assistance anyone can provide... Global constants in Zope

I'd like to define global constants for my web application built with Zope but I'm not sure in what kind of object to define them. Is there any way to import an external python module in scripts, ZPTs, etc? Are there alternative approaches? Thanks in advance. --Borislav

Hi Chris, it depends on your product if it needs special handling of WEBDAV and FTP. For most cases, ie edit content, download source Zope handles it already if you subclass some of the standard classes like Folder, Objectmanager or PageTemplate. If you need special handling, look for manage_FtpGet (or so ;) in the code of these products and their parents. If you want to customize creating of objects of your classes via WebDAV and FTP, you should look at the NullResource handling of ObjectManager and the __getattr__ method. Unfortunately it is a bit overcomplicated in this area. I can try to compile some samples of what I've done with it, if time permits. Regards Tino

Using a ZCLass property as TALES expression ?

Hi, I'm actually building a ZClass for which some validation rules may be customized object per object. I think that using a TALES expression for that purpose may be a good idea, but I can't find a way to execute a TALES expression in the context of the current object, and get the result. Any idea ? check permission problem

I want my standard_html_header to render differently if a person is a manager or a user. I have in the header <dtml-if "_.SecurityCheckPermission('View', login_py)"> Do something <dtml-else> <form action="login_py"> <input type="submit" value="Member login"></th> </form> </dtml-if> login_py is simply the line container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(container.REQUEST.HTTP_REFERER) but has the View permissions set to 'Manager/Owner/Authenticated'. When they click on the submit button, they will be prompted for a username and pass since Anonymous does not have view permission for login_py. What I want is for every page to have a login button if the user is not logged in, and display member information if the user is logged in. What happens instead is that the anonymous user gets asked for a password when visiting the site home index_html, which includes the standard_html_header. It appears that zope is trying to access the contents of login_py in the call to <dtml-if "_.SecurityCheckPermission('View', login_py)"> rather than simply check the permission, which surprises me. Zope crashing...

OK, a while back I sent a mail to this list about my zope install crashing a few times a week. This time I have more info. Zope 2.5.1, running on Slackware. I run zope like this; ./start > zope.out 2>&1 & So now I can see the errors...
