Hey there Bjorn -- Finally found the time to try out dump_obj, and it's showing me that everything *should* be stored correctly in Unicode. Furthermore, the properties page itself (sample attached) does correctly identify the input as UTF-8. However, the results of my simple dtml method still show question marks, even when I look at the source of the generated page (attached, along with the results of dump_obj). Given that the dtml-method result page *source* shows question marks in place of proper Japanese, it suggests to me that something isn't returning properly. Perhaps some intermediary function is not Unicode-aware and fills in the non-ascii chars with question marks? Thanks too for your Plone suggestion. I'm wading through the Plone and Archetype documentation, but it's a bit thin on the right kind of detail for a Plone/Zope newbie like me. I appreciate your time in helping me out. help with restrictedTraverse

Hi everybody, The task I am trying to accomplish is to be able to call an object(it could be a dtml method, python script, php document, etc), given its path as a string parameter. Let's say my directory structure looks like this: /-+-Plone-+-homepage +-reports-+-Site1 +-Site2-+-myObject +-... +-... I need to call myObject, which path is '/Plone/reports/Site2/', from any other directory within the directory structure, but at this time I'm using homepage. Browsing the mailing list I found that I could use restrictedTraverse, so I created an External Method getObject under the homepage directory with the following code: def getObject( self ): return self.restrictedTraverse('/Plone/reports/Site2/myObject') myObject in this case is a php document that contains: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> Now using the External Method from the homepage's index_html: <dtml-var getObject> This is what I get, instead of the chart that this object displays: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> I also tried creating a python script with the following code: return container.restrictedTraverse('/Plone/pig_reports/test_farrowing/crChart') but the script returns this: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> What am I doing wrong? Apache being troublesome (correction of typo)

Hello, I'm a new user to Zope and I've got Apache more or less configured to work as a proxy, but it works only for requests in the top level of a particular domain. My httpd.conf is thus: <VirtualHost 216.127.74.118> ServerName external_name.com RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*) \ http://www.external_name.com:8080/internal_name.com/www/$1 [P] </VirtualHost> Requests for (say) www.external_name/img/img.gif get rewritten as referring to www.external_name.com:8080/img/img.gif which isn't really useful. Whilst this is strictly speaking an Apache issue and not Zope, I'm sure I'm not the first to come across this problem with Apache proxying to Zope. mod_rewrite was compiled into httpd especially for Zope, so the above is my entire experience with it. Any hints very much appreciated!

Most likely culprit on an RH9 system then is that you're running the original RH9 glibc library. There is a problem with the glibc version released with RH9 that can cause siimilar behaviour, I found that updating the glibc and recompiling zope and python fixed it on my system. If your glibc is not current you should update it, there are several mentions of the glibc problem and fix in the list's archives if you need more details. Zope broken - can't restart

I added a package to the Products directory today. When I tried to restart, I got a Proxy error and things went downhill quickly. We are using debian testing (running zope on port 9673) Zope 2.6.2 Starting it and restarting it give differing errors: collab:/var/log/zope/default# /etc/init.d/zope start Starting Zope instance default... failed: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, NoneType found Waiting instances in late: done. default: start: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, NoneType found collab:/var/log/zope/default# /etc/init.d/zope restart Restarting Zope instance default... failed: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'rfind' Waiting instances in late: done. default: restart: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'rfind' Does anyone know what "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'rfind'" means? acl_users in plone sub folders

I'd like to take advantage of Zope's ability to have separate acl_user folders in sub folders to manage security in Plone 2.0 RC2. I'ved tried adding acl_users in a sub folder but Plone doesn't seem to recognize the users. Anyone have any ideas on if and how this can work? Does anyone know of a good solution to give certain users full access to some folders but no access to others without creating a large administrative burden?
