Has there been any recent development in exposing Zope-housed objects as SOAP-based web services (similar to the xml-rpc ability)? All I can find on the web is a very old hack for partial soap support: http://www.ppetru.net/software/index.html and what appears to be an abandoned implementation at: http://cvs.zope.org/Packages/WebService/ We really need SOAP support and I'm hoping not to have to hook Zopera or SOAP.py into every product we build. Would be nice to have folders exposed directly. - Rocky (r0ky)

Zope dies after a few seconds

Hi When I start Zope it runs for a few seconds and then the process goes dead. This happened after I installed the 1.0 version of Plone (replacing RC1). Before doing this I backed up the /zope/var folder (but while Zope was running -not sure if that was wrong). Since I previously restarted Zope, I also changed the host name of the machine, and a few things relating to mail. I'm not sure what other changes my colleagues may have made. To fix the problem, I truncated the database as described in http://www.zope.org/Members/itamar/CorruptedZODB until it was reduced from 56 MB to 7 MB to no avail. Replacing Plone 1.0 with RC1 also did not solve the problem. What else can I try? Question about "tal:condition"

Hi, I have a question about the usage of the tal:condition statement. In the code I have included I generate a table with two types of rows that have a different value for the class attribute (located in the <td> tag). It seems to me that this code can be much shorter by using only one <td> block. How can I accomplish this? Thanks in advance!! Zope: 5.4, jboss 0.3 million hits with google

Hi! I wanted to know how wellknow zope vs. jboss is. Google has 5.4 millions hits for zope and 0.3 million hits for jboss. I don't think this results is objective. I know a lot of people who know jboss but have never heard of zope. multiple Domains with zope

Hi, currently zope runs on one virtual domain hosted by apache. Is it possible to get zope run on other virtual domains on my apache-Server without conflicts, or must I install a new copy of zope for that virtual domain? Bye, Chris

In the python world, Zope is THE web application server. In the java world, there is WebLogic, WebSphere, WebObjects, JBoss, Resin, tomcat, jetty, Netscape Enterprise, etc. The java market is huge. Because java has had so much marketing muscle behind it, there is a lot more competition than in the python world. But the tools provided by a J2EE server are VERY different from what you get with Zope. Zope is really a app server/dev toolkit, whereas J2EE servers are app server/database connection pooler. Zope has some real strengths (ZCatalog, for example), but it has some weaknesses as well. It's a LOT easier to get an app up in Zope for the first time than in a J2EE server, and for small users, it's a lot easier to maintain as well. As far as scalability, Zope and ZEO are great, but J2EE and EJBs are light years ahead in the scalability and failover categories. We use WebLogic at work, and it's one of the 800 lb. gorillas in the java market. It's a beast to configure and use, but it's got a lot of features built in (clustering, database connection pooling, node manager for remotely starting and stopping servers, message queues for MDBs, automatic, distributed software installation across all nodes in a cluster, etc). Zope (and python) could really benefit from some of the features WebLogic and java offer. Databases are a really good example. Databases on zope/python are too hard to set up and configure. With java, you download the db's JDBC driver, put it in your classpath, reference it by name, and off you go. With zope/python, every database requires downloads, C compiles, configuration, and some prayer that the developer tested on your platform.

Plone Site config
