XMLRPC vs. WWW i.e. dots or slashes

I have a set of folders containing various versions of a project which are named x.y.z , where x,y,z are integers. This naming convention works fine for through the web management because the URL path separator is '/' . In fact Files or Images named <base>.<suffix> work great too. However, if I try to work with these Folders programatically via XMLRPC I get errors because xmlrpc.py is replacing all dots with slashes, and the folders x/y/z don't exist. Now OK, I realize the XMLRPC spec leaves method naming up to the server, that's fine. But if that's the case, and Zope internally uses dots as a separator, then why can I use dots in ids and they work in the web interface, and is there any way out of my current predicament short of making hierarchies of folders x/y/z etc. or creating a proxy method that does something like getattr(getattr(<root object>,'x.y.z'),'method')(params), which is fairly ugly? Any way to escape my dots ? J. Toman

[possibly OT] gadfly sql question

I have a zsql method with the following query: update data set down_count = down_count + 1 now down_count is in the table data in a gadfly db and is defined as an int. However on testing this gives "cannot add int to string" error. It does consider the digit 1 to be an int. So what am I doing wrong here?? Thanks Andrew, That will do the job, but what if my provider reboots his server Is it possible to run a cronjob to start the zserver after a reboot? Creating a variable in a DTML method that may be modified

Hello. Does anyone know how to create a variable in a DTML method which may be updated by a Python script? I am currently using the set method of the REQUEST object to create a variable. Way to access (filesystem-based) folder of images?

Hello, I have a bunch of thumbnails that I would like to have access to in Zope. These thumbnails need to be accessible and replaceable through the filesystem. Ive looked at ExtFile and ExtImage and it seems as if these products are designed to be usable to manage filesystem objects through Zope. This isn't what I need, because they dont appear to show objects that were not added through Zope. What I need is a way to show a directory of images on the filesystem and test via DTML if an image with a given filename exists,, It would also be nice if size data on the image was available, but thats not as important.. The crucial thing is that the images need to be managed, changed, etc. from outside of Zope via the filesystem.. -Chris

calling javascript residing on the filesystem

Hi all, I am tryng to call some javascript code from a pure python product and I would like not to import into the ZOOdb the js files (they are quite a lot as the js code base implements a rather complex client side app). My question, obviously, is: how can I call the js through http in the src attribute of the script tag ? Or in other words: how can i map a js file on the filesystem to an URL known to Zope ? Sorry if this question has been answered in the past, but I didn't find anything on the mailing list archives and in the other usual Zope resources. TIA, --peppo

Zope PDF display problems

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Hi all, I'm having a problem getting PDF files served by Zope to work within IE 5.5. When I create an ExternalFile or a Zope File object by uploading a pdf, I can view the resulting file through Netscape 4.7 and Phoenix. But when trying to use IE, it seems to never get the end of the stream and never renders the file. If I set Acrobat as a stand-alone for IE, rather than a plug-in, it works fine. I have seen mention of various Zope/PDF problems on the lists, but they say this issue has been fixed. Strangely enough, I only have this problem on my servers running on Linux, but my Solaris server doesn't have the problem. My setup for all environments is Zope 2.5.1 with Hotfixes, latest ExternalFile, with Apache 1.3.26 sitting in front. Most of my site's visitors will be using IE, so I need to get this working. Hello all, I have installed zope on my webspace at a hosting provider. With ssh i can start the zserver with the ./start command, but when i close the ssh-session the zserver stops executing. Now i want to make a cronjob to automate this task of running the zserver.
