I know that my webserver (Apache) makes more environment variables available to a CGI such as Zope. However, REQUEST seems to contain just a subset of those. For instance, I cannot find any variables related to SSL (e.g. $HTTPS). Forcing SSL

I would like to force users to manage a Zope/Plone site through SSL, and only through SSL. I have a site http://www.site.com:80, which is also directly accessible as https://www.site.com:443. The problem about forcing SSL for authenticated members is that with Apache, I can only really do so for a subdirectory. So if the site would be viewed at directory / (e.g. /products/fly), but all authenticated members see the site as /authenticated (e.g. /authenticated/products/fly), then Apache's Redirect could be used. However, Zope doesn't use different paths for authenticated and anonymous members. Since every page rendered uses standard_html_header, could I put a DTML Method or Python script in there that does the following: - Check if the access is by an authenticated member. - if yes: check for presence of the string 'https' in request/PATH_INFO - if not present: redirect to another URL How would that look? I don't know how to check for membership or how to issue an HTTP Redirect. I often do: ps ax | grep python to see if zope is really running or not. It's an artefact because Python raises a "SystemExit" exeption when "sys.exit" (Python's shutdown function) is called. No one gave this exception special treatment. python core dumps on freebsd

hi I'm running Zope 2.6.0 (instance_home) with Python 2.1.3 on FreeBSD 4.7. I applied this patch to Python (http://zwiki.org/PatchPython213) to increase the thread stack size as the instance in question runs a lot of wikis and Plone sites. Everything was fine for about 7-10 days but now i'm getting seemingly-random, repetitive and isolated python core dumps. >From looking at Apache logs, events.log and the undo "log" in the root of the instance, the only connection i can remotely make is that many requests were made at the moment it core dumped (and i can only say that for one of the times it core dumped.) I'm running Plone beta 3 and zwiki 0.14.0. the ZODB is about 200MB. This is on a dual proc XEON machine with 2GB RAM. I know about this thread: http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2002-September/thread.html#17416 But I'm not coming away with anything actionable other than perhaps apply a different patch to Python? Here's the output from gdb on the latest core dump: This GDB was configured as "i386-unknown-freebsd". Core was generated by `python2.1'. Program terminated with signal 10, Bus error. #0 0xa272b8c in ?? () Most other dumps were on signal 11 Can anyone suggest how i can go about interpreting this? Stopping zope??

Hi... I'm going for the "simplest/dumbest" question of the year award: How do I stop zope? I just set it up on Red Hat Linux...and after running "./start &" the server is up and running. I've now added CMF and would like to shut it down/restart. Can't do it. I've tried from the ZMI control panel (error message)...and from the linux prompt (I'm new to linux, but I tried: "./stop" (and every conceivable variation) and get a "./stop: kill: (24799) no such pid" message). What am I doing wrong? George PS - I'm also running zope on win 2000 - no prob - init file does the trick.

Hello, I need to create a progress bar for file uploads to my cmf site. Would it be possible to do it directly in Zope or do I need some sort of java applet handling the file upload ?? Deleted acl_user

All of my users are defined at the root level. One of them did a lot of work on my site and has local roles and owned objects all over the place. I deleted him from the acl_users. My question is, can he still access everything for which he has a local role? Me vs. The Zope Book Pt. 1

I can't get some of the things mentioned in the ZB to work as expected. If anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, that'll be much appreciated. 1. The following code - <dtml-tree> <dtml-var getId> </dtml-tree> gives me nothing! Even in root, when I'm logged in as site manager, & when I'm an authenticated user, when the script has a proxy role of Manager, when it doesn't, etc. According to ZB (pg. 124) I should see a display of an HTML tree. What am I missing? Samir

Newbie needs help

Hi, What I want to do is display, from the result of an SQL query, each first occurence of a supplier name . ie : I have a query which returns for example "s1,s1,s1,s2,s2,s3,s3" and I want to display "s1,s2,s3". Syntax Error

Well, it's the end of my first day of Zope programming and I like it :-) I've written a nice app that helps me manage my contacts much quicker than I could in straight Python but there is one aspect that is driving me nuts! If I make a mistake when typing and then I click save it often gives me an error page and won't let me go BACK and change what I have just typed. Is this normal Zope behaviour? Simon
