checking existance of an url?

Hi, I am trying to write a little python script that checks if a certain URL exists on the server. So what the script gets is the URL as a string, but so far I have not been able to find a way to check if the corresponding objects exists short of using urllib. Is there an easy way of doing this? I have been looking through all kinds of documentation, but found nothing so far. Thanks Ralph

I do not know any product in Zope that would do that for you. The difficult part is not inside Zope. You will need interfaces between the Zope based intranet application and all your severs, unless the servers themselves are intranet based and sufficiently customizable that they can hook into an SSO scheme. Carefully look at the commercial portals and the services they support (out of the box). I expect much integration work also for commercial portals that claim to handle that seemlessly... Dieter

marshalling list arguments

Hi, I have this python script: ## Script (Python) "edit_wrapper" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters=list_argument ##title= ## REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect('edit_records?list_argument=%s' % list_argument) When I try to use list_argument in edit_records I find that is not a list as it should be. In the python script it is a list but when is passed to edit_records it becomes a string. I've tried to pass the argument like list_argument:list but that is rendered in edit_records like ["[.....]"](a list with one string element). Any help is welcomed. TNX. -- ICQ: 165549179

XMLDocument

I am using the product XMLKit and its XMLDocument and XMLproxy. (have tried ParsedXML, but it doesn't seem to display my norwegian characters and I don't have time to look into that matter). XMLproxy works just the way i want it. now, inside this xml there is a few lines i want to extract: <CELL ROWSPAN="1" COLSPAN="1"> <emnekode>hfmv302 <A ID="pgfId-999230" /> </emnekode> </CELL> What i want from this is: <a href="some_url#pgfid-999230">hfmv302</a> when i add "emnekode" to the entities to view, nothing happens. However, if <A> contains data i may extract this by calling <dtml-var A> at the opening tag. I am puzzeled. First of all i would very much apreciate if somone could point me to any documentation on XMLKit. second: if somone understand what i want from the above text, maybe could tell me if I am on the right track when trying to extract data from the xml-document. Mark, I've also been struggling with Memory Leaks in Zope, and not having much luck with it either. The behavior was much the same as yours, only over a longer period of time (My Zope will last up to 8 or 10 days). I'm using 2.5.1 however. First thing I would recommend would be to install the LeakFinder product. It was instrumental in my finding more about my leak. Looks like the LeakFinder, somehow imporves the refcount, and after installing it, you may get better refcounts that will give you a clue of what's going on. In my case, where the DateTime refcounts never were a problem before, with LeakFinder, I learned that I was leaking DateTime objects through lost references it seems. I'm also pretty sure it's got something to do with the ZCatalog, since it's the one that instantiates these most. You may have been reading my previous e-mails. In my case though I think it's got to do with the searching, not the indexing. As far the request.set, apparently that's an "old" issue that probably is no longer, but I removed them as best I could from my code ... didn't change much anyways. This was due to concerns with the fact that the request object is so intensively used and passed around internally, keep track of references may have been a problem at some point. Right now I've got my eyes on this piece of code: from random import choice selecteditem = choice(context.portal_catalog.searchResults( meta_type='Featured Item', includeinrotation = '1', review_state='published')) return selecteditem Which I could see how it might loose references if not done right, I'll be running tests on this soon. This type of behavior seems to be experienced by a range of people with various apparent causes ... It would be nice if we could put our heads together on this. However, I have to manually re-create a 'transient object container' in the temp_folder every time Zope is restarted. Also, when Zope goes down (or the memory is all taken up) it often takes out other services which don't automatically restart, such as ssh, telnet, mail etc. Obviously, the real answer is to stop the memory leak in the first place, so that Zope never has to be restarted. I'm running Python 2.1.3 and Zope 2.6.0 and I've read and followed much of the advice given on this mailing list re: memory leaks. For instance, I've set ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=3DPYTHON in my Zope startup script and checked the reference counts for various things, but can't spot anything that might be a problem. I also saw a 'memory leak possible solved' message which talked about indexing catalogs as being a problem. However, this didn't solve my problem. In my python scripts I often use request.set and session.set commands, and I read that they may be causing problems. I use these functions to pass variables between python scripts and dtml methods or other python scripts. I sort of understand why using these functions may be a problem - because there is nothing to clean them up once sessions are closed? What is the better way to pass variables around? Any help would be greatly appreciated, the mailing list seems to be running out of ideas on this topic. WebDAV w/ DreamweaverMX.

hi, Does anyone use DreamweaverMX w/ Zope? I can not seem to get it working. I can not seem to get some files, especially if they are in a subfolder. I get 'Unexpected client/server communication problem.' Looks like the permissions are OK. But I am not sure. If somone else has the PC version working (Windows) please let me know. searching a ZCatalog

Hello list, Happy New Year! Sorry if I already posted this msg, but I didn't see it so I think that was another malfunctioning of my mailer. I gave a ZCatalog and I perform searches on the PrincipiaSearchSource field. I modified the results table so that it shows links to the found occurrences, not just blackon white results Now what I'd like that when I click on one of those links, the file that opens has the occurrences highlighted somehow, say: blah bla blah occurrence blah bla blah Anyone would suggest me how? Newbie question on features/comparision

I'm trying to look for a CMS product for a non-profit organization I work for. In doing so I discovered Zope. I think with the CMS part added on it looks to be a good product. When trying to look for articles about Zope in search engines I found the product 'Easy Publisher' http://www.easypublisher.com/ From looking at their site they say they use Zope for the base product. I was wondering if anyone on this Zope list knows about this other product and could give me a quick comparison of differences I might find from using easypublisher or just loading Zope and CMS add-on. I'm thinking I can accomplish most the features of easypublisher with just having Zope. That I'll probably have to add my own templates and things on the site anyway, so I won't gain much. I don't know Python programming, but need to some dynamic drop down menus (java script I thought) and a few other dynamic things that would automatically change as I added more sub-directories or more web pages. In other words if I added a part of the site called "Ministries", this new area would automatically appear as a link in some dynamic drop down menu. I figured I will be building these templates for my navigation header frame and side frame, no matter which product I choose. Unless someone knows that a part of easypublisher already does this OR maybe a ZOPE addin already offer this. I'm loading both products onto my Redhat box tonight. So I'll do some real testing tomorrow, but making this posting I'm hoping will get me more information than I can find in a few days of testing. Thanks, Steven Smith
