Date and Zclass properties
by Benoit Dominiak 12 Feb '02

12 Feb '02

Hi, I'd like to put a date as a property of my Zclass but I have many trouble to find a correct format for it. I think I can also use string, int or float. But it's not perfect: How can I use all the methods for the DateTime Class with this property ? I'd like to store a date of publication in this property and to be able to sort instances by this date (different than bobobase_modif). And also to be able to use the format I want for the date. Hi all! What am i doing wrong if newObject = context.manage_addProduct['myProduct'].someClass.createInObjectManager (id = 'test', context.REQUEST) works fine and zclass = someClass newObject = context.manage_addProduct['myProduct'][zclass].createInObjectManager (id = 'test', context.REQUEST) raises an Attribute Error? Thank you very much! Markus

acl_users on an LocalFS?
by Derek Simkowiak 12 Feb '02

12 Feb '02

Hello, I am using the Local File System product to import some directories on my hard drive into Zope. The tricky part is, I want to use Zope's acl_users and acquisition to manage usernames/passwords on those directories. That is, I want the Local File System to have an "acl_users" subdirectory where I can add/remove usernames. Is there a way to do that? Thanks, Derek

Re: [Zope] httpd processes

>Furthermore, one would expect a malicious DOS attack when all >15 Zope instances show this problem at the same time. > >Something else seems to happen... the funny thing is, that by a direct request (via ip address and port number) Zope doesn't answer. When I restart httpd (not Zope), Zope and Apache again answer. So I don't restart Zope. I think this is a problem of httpd, not Zope. But why doesn't Zope answer when this problem occurs? _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Server-side Java & Zope?
by Richard Gordon 12 Feb '02

12 Feb '02

I hope that I am not beating a well-beaten horse, but a search on Google didn't seem to tell me whether it's possible to use java servelets to extend Zope sort of like python/perl externals can. So is this do-able (even if it involves invoking the servelet indirectly?)? I would prefer to use python exclusively, but it would be useful to be able to tell some IT manager simpletons that what I propose to do with Zope will include "some java" since even they have heard of java, while python draws a knowing blank (altho it's being used for regression testing by the product development people in the same company two floors down) and Zope doesn't even rate that. <rant> I spent 5 years as an IT manager and understand not wanting to make a bad decision, but I also made it a point to know what the choices were before the issue came up. It appears to me that the current breed of featherbedders is composed of appallingly political creatures who wouldn't know a router from a waffle iron. No wonder M$ has a monopoly. </rant> Richard Gordon -------------------- Gordon Design Web Design/Database Development http://www.richardgordon.net

Which path?
by Tom Donovan 12 Feb '02

12 Feb '02

I am developing an on-line job application system for my school district and have pretty much decided that Zope is the way to go. I have been reading up and experimenting with CMF, MetaPublisher, Formulator, etc., and can see how each has features that I can apply to my task, but am at a bit of a loss as to which is the best path to take. My specs include: 1. An applicant should be able to create his or her own account, a la CMF. 2. An applicant should be able to complete and submit the application/information sheet only once. (It is not obvious to me how I could impose this limitation within CMF.) 3. An application should be able to come back to the site later and update his/her information. 4. An applicant should be able to upload an electronic version of his/her resume (Word doc, PDF, etc.). 5. An applicant should be able to "apply" for a posted position. (In many cases, applicants will simply be submitting info without applying for a particular position.) 6. Local staff should be able to post and manage job openings. (Postings should automatically expire based on an application deadline.) 7. Local staff should be able to search for applicants based on any number of criteria (obviously). 8. Local staff should be able to download an applicant's resume. 9. Local staff should be able to delete applicants 10. ?? I'm not looking for a detailed "how-to" on any of this (yet ;-) ). What I would appreciate is advice on which path to take and any major pitfalls to avoid. So... My questions: 1. Are there solutions already out there for doing this kind of job bank system? I have searched Zope.org and any place else I could find, and nothing jumped out at me. 2. If not, would I be better off using CMF as a basis for the system or would it make more sense to use a collection of other products & custom objects to build the system "directly" in Zope (for lack of a better description)? What products would be the best starting points? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.
