User profiles

Is there a product for maintaining/building user profile pages or is this something too trivially implemented to be done up as a product? What I need is a page that each user will have as a start page when they login, that will show them a personal calendar of upcoming deadlines, it will also have a record of their email address which will be referenced by other processes, and would allow them to change their password and such like. hmmm...come to think of it, it does sound fairly straightforward to do, now that I think about it.... Any thoughts, hints or suggestions? bkd

Simple, Open Source RDBMS for Windows
by Carlos A. Carnero Delgado 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

Hello. Here's the satanic plan: with a little hard work for me, I'm converting my girlfriend's notebook office applications to Zope. She's currently using Microsoft Office for a number of tasks, but I'm "porting" her Excel and Access applications to Zope (not porting Excel, mind you; just the business logic, as well as some reporting stuff from Access.) I have demonstrated her that it would works--and it looks cool BTW, not to mention some stuff I have under my sleeve for her in the future (Zope wise) But, I've been using Gadfly as the underlying RDBMS service. I know of its limitations (sort of). So, I'm asking you guys if there's a small, SQL compliant to the basic level, Open Source RDBMS that runs under Windows. Or is Gadfly more than enough for personal use? Best regards, Carlos. PS. She's running Windows 2000. Tried to convince her to run FreeBSD but that was too much to ask, so I conceded.

RE: [Zope] Automatically go to another page after query results?
by Tommy Johnson 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

I did something like that the two weeks ago. After saving the info, I wanted to send them back to a certain page, and tell them that the info was saved successfully. Admin_editSectionForm is the page I wanted to send them to sectionSaved is a parameter I wanted to pass. <dtml-let pageLocation="'Admin_editSectionForm' + '?sectionSaved=1'"> <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect(pageLocation)"> </dtml-let> I remember having to use the dtml-let to build the location and querystring because I was having the same problem as you. So I just built a string that represented the location, then simply redirected to the content of that variable string. Worked nicely. hth, Tommy Innovation: The Best Way To Predict The Future ... Cooledit and zope functionality
by Chris Keyes 27 Jul '01

Has anyone used the Unix X editor CoolEdit? http://cooledit.sourceforge.net/index.php It seems to have some Zope functionality but when I select Zope Mode it dies with a python error. I may have a play with it but would welcome any comments from those who use it... So any comments from the wider world? Cheers Chris

Compiling 2.4.0 under Mac OS X?

Hey, all. Trying to compile 2.4.0 under Mac OS X. I tried to apply the changes listed in: <URL:http://www.zope.org/Members/sspickle/MacOSXBHFS> but they didn't seem to mesh with the latest src archive. This is what I get at the end of the 'python wo_pcgi.py' compile: make -f Makefile do-it-again /usr/lib/python2.1/config/makesetup \ -m Makefile.pre -c /usr/lib/python2.1/config/config.c.in Setup -n /usr/lib/python2.1/config/Setup.config /usr/lib/python2.1/config/Setup.local /usr/lib/python2.1/config/Setup make LDFLAGS="-undefined suppress" make: *** No rule to make target `src/Splitter.c', needed by `Splitter.o'. Zope in higher education
by Jerome Alet 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

Hi, I'm pleased to announce the latest version of my french document titled "Le choix de Zope comme plate-forme d'enseignement a distance", you can read it in HTML format at: http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome/choixzope/ Unfortunately the PDF version will be available later today, or this evening. This document, which title may be translated into "The choice of Zope as a distance learning platform", describes Zope and Python and references some Zope products which may prove to be useful in such an environment, as well as all the projects I know of worldwide which use Zope when building a distance learning platform. The latest modifications are: - some clarifications. - some links checks. - references of some of the now available Zope books out there. Some more modifications will be delayed until September, because I'll be on holidays in 3 hours now :-)) Please feel free to send me any experiences you may have in such a situation in order for me to include them in a future version of this document, if you want. Anyone wanting to do a translation into english or other language is very welcome, of course. Thanks for your attention. StructuredText(NG) in 2.4 doesn't like my links anymore
by Danny William Adair 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

After upgrading to Zope 2.4, I noticed that in stx-formatted text, links ending with an exclamation mark won't be shown as links anymore, but as plain text: Try this: "Click here":http://www.zope.org "Click here!":http://www.zope.org Can anyone confirm this misbehavior? Or have I maybe just missed a change in usage, and this is valid? Thx alot in advance, Danny

Opening PDFs
by Tina Poole 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

Dear All Firstly, thank you to everyone who helped with my questions on table widths and css. The table width problem was solved when I found a table class definition in the css with width=100%. Removed this and all is happy. The css font issue is still an issue but I can live with it for now. On to a new question. Usually when a PDF is opened from a web site the Acrobat Reader opens in the browser. But when opening PDFs from our zope site a File Download box appears not once but twice and sometime three times and the Acrobat Reader is opened outside of the browser. The PDFs are added as files (not external files due to other issues). Can this behaviour be changed? I would like it so that if a PDF is clicked it is opened within the browser without the really annoying file download dialog boxes. thanks in advance tina MineStar Mincom Limited Brisbane, Australia _________________________________________________ This transmission is for the intended addressee only and is confidential information. by Berkan Sezer 27 Jul '01

Hallo Gemeinde, bin recht neu hier und möchte zope an MySQL anbinden. Habe soweit alles installiert. Laut handbuch müsste ich jetzt durch den befehl 'python setup.py build' im MySQL python ordner die verbindung herstellen können. Folgende fehlermeldung wird mir hier aber ausgegeben: 'Traceback (innermost last): File "setup.py", line 6, in ? from distutils.core import setup ImportError: No module named distutils.core' Kann mir da jemand weiterhelfen? Ich bin am ende mit meinem latein! Ich habe auch leider keine Ahnung wo ich dieses distutils.core herbekommen kann, bzw. für was dieses teil sein soll. Meine Konfig findet ihr in meiner Signatur, falls benötigt. manage_add with results
by Paul Zwarts 27 Jul '01

27 Jul '01

Greetings all, I'm searching around and I'm trying to locate a hint as to how I can use: manage_addDocument(id=something, file=spiral, ...) where Spiral is the results of a method. I can get the contents of the method (dtml code) into the new file, but I want the resulting text that the method would generate. Can someone steer me in the right direction please? Thanks, Paz
