by Igor Leturia 23 May '01

Hi! I'd like to know if there's an easy way to import a whole folder (with its subfolders) from the local hard disk into Zope, without having to import every file one by one. Thanks in advance, Igor Leturia

Error when packing Data.fs
by Gilles Lenfant 23 May '01

Hi, I always have an error when I try to pack the database from manage interface (whatever the number of days I want to keep). Zope 2.3.2/Linux. It worked before upgrading from 2.3.0 to 2.3.2, with the version upgrader (not the full installer) Is there something I should do prior packing the database ? overriding index_html
by Arkaitz 23 May '01

23 May '01

Hi all, I'm writing some classes in a Python product, and I'd like to be able to override their index_html view so that it can be specified by the folder in which the instances reside. The idea is that if I have myfolder/view, being "view" a DTMLmethod, and I call myfolder/myobject, it will be equivalent to calling /myfolder/myobject/view, is this possible? TIA, Arkaitz.

Filling a drop-down menu with SQL data (Problem with argument passing)
by philipp.robbel＠epost.de 23 May '01

23 May '01

Hello everybody, I have been trying and trying the whole day but I still have not found any solution to my (simple?) problem: => I want to fill my HTML DropDown menu with data from a SQL table. My SQL Method (sqlShowTypes) takes one argument which I have defined in the Z SQL Method Properties as "TypeName". The function is as follows: SELECT Typ FROM <dtml-if expr="TypeName=='Researcher'> tblStaffResearchers <dtml-else>tblStaffManagement </dtml-if> When testing this method seperatly from the calling dtml document it works fine. After specifing a TypeName Parameter it returns all the rows from the Typ-column. Now, in my DTML Document I have a Variable "Typ" (either containing 'Researcher' or 'Management'). This one I want to pass to sqlShowTypes as the TypeName parameter. My first try was: <dtml-in expr="sqlShowTypes('<dtml-var Typ>')"> : not working (Bad Request, Error Value: ['Typname']) 2nd try: <dtml-in expr="sqlShowTypes(TypName='<dtml-var Typ>')"> : somehow working but my drop-down menu is filled with 5 empty spaces! 3rd try: <dtml-in expr="sqlShowTypes(TypName=Typ)" : again, somehow working but again EMPTY SPACES! I would need a proper statement that would embedd just fine in my drop-down code: <dtml-in expr="...."> <option> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in></select> </td> If you are that Zope Guru I'm so badly in need of, please help me with that problem! PS.: "sequence-item" is the proper one to use in the code above, right? Thanks a lot, Philipp Robbel ________________________________________ Der clevere Infobote - Shopping-Tipps bequem abonniert. Re: [Zope] zopelogo nerves

> > But as someone else said, there are many more reasons not to use > > Windows then just color. > > But as long as 80% fo web users are Windows people, we have to > design for 'em. Not really. What we need to be doing is helping to push people out of the dark and into using the technology that works. If web programmers/designers (mainly the designers fault/problem) keep making things accessible to those with inferior browsers, then ten years from now we'll have people who are still using Netscape 4 and who can't view anything on the web in the way that is meant to be. Back when I used to see the "best viewed with Netscape 4 or IE 4" disclaimer at the bottom of pages I used to cringe. Now I'm beginning to feel like "if you can't see it, get a new browser. One that works." Most things are still viewable to people who use Netscape 3 even. There are people here who still use it. But those people don't care about the "web experience" that all of the web designers using Flash and Java care about. They want the content and the content will be there as long as we stick to the standards. If someone wants the web experience, give it to them, give it to them good, but stop working around them. Give them twice as much but make them use the right tools. Maybe everyone should just use lynx or w3m. (Which the Zope management screens looks great in anyway.) My $1.57. -Chris

Hello, >From time to time I an full of hope, and I start debugging the Zsever, to try to get rid of hangs :-) My question of today is: - when are http_channel zombies closed? the code look like (http_server.py): maintenance_interval = 500 def check_maintenance (self): if not self.channel_number % self.maintenance_interval: self.maintenance() =>so every 500 channels creation?? - what trigger the creation of a new channel?.... - same question for the thread. If someone is interrested to modify/debug the Zserver code, please join me. Gilles

isinstance issubclass and zope 2.4
by kosh＠aesaeion.com 23 May '01

Will isinstance and issubclass be fixed with the move to python 2.1 in zope 2.4? This is a fairly important feature for the continued development of some of my products. I can kludge things for now but I am very curious about a complete solution. Designing the webpages of tomorrow http://webme-eng.com Designing the MMORPGS of tomorrow http://worldforge.org

Re: [Zope] Filling a drop-down menu with SQL data (Problem with argument passing)
by philipp.robbel＠epost.de 23 May '01

Hello, thanks for your tip with znolk but I'm afraid this does not help since my problem is related to the argument passing (see original post). If I had a Z SQL method that would always return the same column (SELECT Typ FROM tblStaffManagement) I wouldn't have any problem. My problem is the argument passing to the Z SQL method so that it - if the argument is 'Researcher' for example - get the Typ-Column from the tblStaffResearcher etc. Thanks again, Philipp "John Moss" <j.d.moss(a)ncl.ac.uk> wrote: >Hi, > >you should maybe look at the znolk product this helps with this >type of drop down menu from sql table especially in a form > >address is http://www.zope.org/Members/zwork/Znolk_SQL_Wizard > >we use this alot and saves alot of time ... > >hope this helps > >John > >John Moss, C&IT Advisor, FMCC, http://www.fmcc.org.uk/ >The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 243 6145 ________________________________________ Der clevere Infobote - Shopping-Tipps bequem abonniert. Cataloging and uncataloging...
by After Dark 23 May '01

23 May '01

Hi, I am trying to catalog and uncatalog objects into a ZCatalog, but when I uncatalog/catalog I have to do it twice to work. Do I have to index or something like? I`m just doing this: <dtml-call "mycatalog.uncatalog_object(xobject)"> Thanks. ________________________________________________ Don't E-Mail, ZipMail! http://www.zipmail.com/

updating ZCatalog
by Andrei Cenja 23 May '01

23 May '01

Hello ! I'm trying to use a catalog in order to enable search queries based on metadata of the objects (ExtFiles) in a directory. As users will add new objects, the catalog must be updated, which (the catalog updating) I figured must be done "by hand", that is, by telling the catalog to update itself in the same script which also does the uploading of the ExtFiles. By looking in the ZopeBook I was able to catalog_object() each new ExtFile as it is uploaded, but that doesn't also update the indexes and the vocabulary. How can THAT be achieved ? I haven't noticed any such function in the API reference manual. I tried to look in the source of the "advanced" page of the catalog manager and see what the "update catalog" button does, but it's a bit too tough for me :-) Thanks ! andrei
