Tree tag and namespaces

In July of last year, Charlie Wilkinson had the same question as I have now: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/528BD6EFC503F1D5 He wanted to write an own dtml method for the tree tag which returns a user specified list of objects. He had the problem that calling that method with the tree tag always raised an attribute error about REQUEST. Rik Hoekstra found a workaround for that: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/2F50BD09CCEB1C9F This did not really work. Dieter Maurer added: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/C880B00E8C179B6D where he uses an own local namespace. So REQUEST is banned. But you urgently have to use objectValues or something, and that raises the same error! Hello all, I'm new to Zope, and reading as voraciously as I can the breadcrumbs, FAQs, and the online book. I'm also up against a timeline, a week to be exact, to compare/contrast Zope with an IIS/Delphi solution. Would someone point me to the correct RTFM or FAQ to go about doing the equivalent of javascript image rollovers? Thanks!

Ok. My last comment on productizer. At the moment I see no problems in implementing the following scenario: >1. SomeClass.py >( contains the actual functionality ) > >2. ProductDescriptor.XML >( contains dependencies, list of product's configurable properties and (maybe) methods ) Productizer generates the SomeClass_Product proxy object, with creation screen, one ( and only one ) configuration screen and ( optional ) index_html ( including all the dtmls needed. Everything related to Zope integration is encapsulated in this proxy class. This is not current Product ( less flexible ) but this is also not a component as well has GUI ). This is Zope Bean. Such beans should be extremely easy to create, comparing to current Product magic. Now I have to understand how persistency and other things work, but I think that this design can work. I may implement it occasionaly and then we'l see. Comments welcome. Rgds.Paul.

Creating instance in current folder

Hi, I'd like to create a TinyTable using DTML in the current folder and am not quite successful. The table gets created, but in the parent directory. I have a Zclass with a dtml-method which test the existence of the table and if it's not there already it's supposed to create it. Note that this of cource happends in the instance of this class. Everyhting seems fine, exept tht fact that the table isn't create where I want it to. Here is the code I use: <dtml-if xref_table> UPDATE<P> <dtml-with xref_table> <dtml-call "delAllRows()"> </dtml-with> <dtml-else> NEW!<P> <dtml-call "manage_addTinyTablePlus('xref_table', 'xref', 'label number url type')"> </dtml-if> ... more stuffi ... I tried several permutations of PARENTS[?].manage_addTInyTablePlus(...), but I never got it to create the table in the current directory. Can anybody help? ZMySQLDA 2.0.0 and Time fields

Got it! Hacked it :) In ZMySQLDA 2.0.0 there is a bug when using a time field. What happened was that when I select-query a table with TIME (not datetime or timestamp or date or anything normal like that) The ZMySQLDA tried to convert that using DateTime. Adam: Check out this HowTo: http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/client_script_howto I personally find it is pretty easy to use javascript with Zope. Basically, if I want to use javascript (like mouse-overs), I create a dtml document containing the javascript I want Then, I modify the "standard_html_header" method and add something like this: <dtml-if js_Rollover_Insert> <dtml-var js_Rollover> </dtml-if> Then, whatever DTML document I want to insert the javascript code for the mouse-over (ie "index_html"), I add a property called "js_Rollover_Insert". The value is not necessary, I use "Yes" for clarity. What then happens is that whenever that "index_html" is called, the property js_Rollover_Insert is added to the namespace. Then, as Zope goes through the namespace rendering objects, you eventually hit standard_html_header. Since the property js_Rollover_Insert is in the namespace, the <dtml-if> statement will evaluate to true and render whatever is in the object "js_Rollover". Hope I haven't confused you... Just as a side note, I started out using IIS/Delphi to write a web application for the LAN group I was in at the time. I did a pretty good job of writing the site; however, once I discovered Zope, and got through the learning curve, I was able to rewrite the site in less than 1/2 the time it took me to write the CGI scripts/ISAP DLL's. It was also a *lot* easier to go back and add functionality as it was needed. If you are considering using a DB to store your data in, Zope will *really* outshine writing CGI/ISAPI in Delphi. data point on ease of learning Zope -- I give up.

Hi Zopesters! I'm an experienced Python programmer, and I need to hack together a quick web app that simply accepts POSTed XML data entries from authenticated users, stores the data persistently, and provides a formatted HTML representation of the list of all such entries to the same authenticated user. I thought I would look at using ZODB so that I could have the coolness of nearly transparent persistence. Then I thought I would use Zope so that I wouldn't have to bother with connecting the HTTP transactions to the logic. So I did `apt-get install zope'[1] to download and install the current Debian-packaged version of Zope (v2.2.4), and while I was waiting on the download I went to zope.org. It is now about 3 hours later and I have not yet found any "example code" or instructions that shows how to set up a basic web site or how to write Python code that gets executed, CGI-style, in response to an HTTP transaction. I browsed zope.org, the ZDP, and a site called "ZopeNewbies". I looked at the "QuickStart" that came with the zope server, but all I saw was how to edit web pages using DTML. I don't want to have anything to do with DTML (though we use it in my product, Mojo Nation[2], which BTW is probably the second-biggest open source Python app, after Zope), and I don't want to edit any static pages, so I stopped reading the "QuickStart". So now I give up. I'm going to install apache (`apt-get install apache'), and use the Python bsddb module for a simple dict-like database. Even though I wasted about half of my scheduled time on trying to set up a basic Zope server, I'll probably still have my prototype up and running 3 hours from now, when I have a meeting with my co-workers. How to know who an object's owner is
