Adding Zope to Red Carpet

Does this mean that Zope is developing some sort of platform independent update tool/method? If so, sounds great! If not, then having platform dependent update tools seems like something to consider, especially if it just means submitting data about what and where your rpms and tarballs are. -db ps. It wouldn't be a problem, it would be a feature! ;-) [Zope] Adding Zope to Red Carpet Andy McKay andym(a)ActiveState.com Tue, 27 Feb 2001 09:21:36 -0800 Previous message: [Zope] Adding Zope to Red Carpet Next message: [Zope] Adding Zope to Red Carpet Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Ah thanks... looking at the Roadmap I believe easier product installation is definitely needed. zope list posting restrictions

After a discussion on irc the idea of a 15K limit and no html email was arrived it. This would block almost all spam that comes to this list and would not interfere with its normal functioning since the 15K cap is about 5K over most of the largest pure text messages which seem be hit a cap of about 10K without having html in them. Error-reporting bug
by John R. Daily 01 Mar '01

01 Mar '01

I've noticed in 2.3.0 that if a DTML method is the target of a form request, and it invokes a Python script which attempts operations with insufficient privileges, the error reported back to the browser is a KeyError on one of the variables passed in via the form submission and forwarded along to the Python script. This has cost me a lot of troubleshooting time as I either write a new test page to try the operation and determine what the security issue really is, or I go through and add proxy capabilities to random Python scripts that are invoked by the DTML method or the scripts it invokes. Not to mention the initial hours it took me to figure out that it wasn't really a KeyError, but rather a security issue. Is this a known issue that will eventually be resolved, or will this continue to be a problem? -- -- John R. LoginManager and Zope 2.3.0
by Milos Prudek 01 Mar '01

I installed LoginManager 0-8-8b1 but it shows as a broken product under Zope 2.3.0 Traceback says: File "/usr/local/Zope-2.3.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/Products/ZPatterns/DataSkins.py", line 1, in ? from DynPersist import DynPersist ImportError: No module named DynPersist Search for DynPersist on zope.org reveals that I should compile DynPersist.c in the /lib/python/Products/ZPatterns directory. But it requires various headers which I have spread around lib/python, but obviously gcc cannot find them. I use binary Zope 2.3.0 package. Should I be using Zope compiled from source? Do I need to compile DynPersist.c? Where should I place the result? -- Milos Prudek

Can somebody please tell me how I check if an URL is active or inactive...? I am going to use this to check all the external links on my own zopeserver if they are not active I will remove them... Stoons, WebMaster @ 3D Festival http://www.3dfestival.com (Yes, that was made using Zope!)

Zope changing incoming info?
by Gary Perez 28 Feb '01

28 Feb '01

Hi, all. Zope 2.2.2, Python 1.5.2, Linux 2.4.1 Got an python module (/opt/Zope/Extensions/selfInfo.py) which returns a dictionary. Got a Zope external method "Get_Self_Info" w/ appropriate function/filename. Now... when calling from either a DTML Document or DTML Method, something's going screwy. ### CALL 1 ### <dtml-var Get_Self_Info> returns {'cpuLoading': 16.4179104478} Beautiful, no? ### CALL 2 ### <dtml-var "Get_Self_Info['cpuLoading']"> barfs, returns Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __getitem__ ... File /opt/Zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 337, in eval (Object: Get_Self_Info['cpuLoading']) (Info: Get_Self_Info) File <string>, line 0, in ? File /opt/Zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 163, in careful_getitem I'm used to accounting for this error... usually by calling like in CALL 3... ### CALL 3 ### <dtml-let XYZ=Get_Self_Info> <dtml-var "XYZ['cpuLoading']"> </dtml-let> returns {'cpuLoading': 100.0} My question is... why is Zope returning the correct float the first time (CALL 1), but returning an entirely different float for CALL 3? Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance for your help. -Gary -- Gary Perez, (insert job title of choice) Mktg. Coord. + MIS Mgr. + Sys. Admin. Can't remove proxy?
by John R. Daily 28 Feb '01

28 Feb '01

After setting a Python script to run via a proxy (Zope version 2.3.0), if I later go back and unselect the role, I can't save that change. The resulting page complains that I have to select at least one role. Is there a workaround? -- -- John R. Optimization
by Paul Zwarts 28 Feb '01

Hi Zoperopes.... Im nearing completion of my site and though Im new to python and zope, I've gotten a mile out of the meter of funcitonality. Im very happy with it,. But next I raise the issue of speed.... Im wondering what are the evaluating criteriea for the response speed of Zope.... Say for instance, you use heavy namespace access, does it slow the system down much? How about for dbms calls? Im using SQLSession quite heavily to store parameters that are required to run the site. Also, Im pretty stupid when it comes to this ZClass stuff, so I've just worked around it by using close to 150 SQL methods and EVERYTHING is in the DBMS. Not only by idiocy, but because the site was ramped out of another webapp system and it seemed easier to just keep using the dbms data for everything..... Also, is there a product that can do timegating and performance testing on zope? Thanks as always, Paz
