Zope inserting base tag

Hi I have a problem creating valid HTML 4 with Zope. It seems that Zope inserts a <base> tag when calling an index_html document without specifying the file: <base href="http://127.0.0.1:8080/" /> If I type in my browser "http://127.0.0.1:8080/" Zope adds the base tag. If I type "http://127.0.0.1:8080/index_html", it doesn't. Sadly the way it creates this tag is not valid HTML 4.01 strict (or transitional) according to validator.w3.org. We want to use W3's icons on the sites we're building, as it seems the closest thing to a certificate for quality-HTML. (Basically it something that helps selling.) The offending thing is the XML-like ending. " />" If I remove the space-slash from the code, it validates. I assume that I could suppress this somewhere in the source code (possibly HTTPResponse.py), but I'm not sure where and how. I'm using Zope 2.4, but found this "feature" to exist in Zope 2.6 as well. Can somebody help generating valid HTML 4.01? :-) Cheers Marc

Server down with Zope2.6.0

Hi, I have Zope 2.6.0 under Win XP. Everything works well (seems to ). A little problem is on the left window, when I'm manager. I have to wait a lot the answer, anything due to the dtml-tree ??? Today, we have tried to be connected on this server with 2 Administrators ( the same admin, with the same password). It was puting down the server and any request was served under 15/20 mn. Nothing can do on the server, just waiting for the resources. All resources was taken. We have tried with 2 managers, but differents names, It was the same. Any idea or help for what is happening? I think it is hard to get a complete tutorial on the CMF, because there is at least a book's worth of stuff to learn, if you really want to master it. First suggestion: start with Plone, which is an excellent CMF-based CMS (http://plone.org) It is a much more complete starting point than CMFDefault, and you can spend your time learning to code for the framework rather than having to rework the UI a ton. Plone also has active documentation projects on Plone.org, and a very helpful IRC community on #Plone or irc.freenode.net, as well as an active plone-users mailing list. The CMFTypes project (in the CMF Collective project on sf.net) may also lower the bar for creating CMF content types, which could make things easier. It currently has documentation, but the docs are a bit outdated as CMFTypes is maturing. Approach I would take for learning CMF for users: => Start with Plone! Much less work to get something usable. A lot of focus on good general principles in interactivity design have gone into creating the Plone UI. => Read the Plone book http://plone.org/documentation/book/ => Get familiarized with where the CMFDefault/Plone content types don't meet your needs, and know where to find 3rd party products that solve those needs or know when to talk to a developer to get something custom put together. => Take a look at all the 3rd party (mostly Plone-enabled) CMF projects/products in the CMF Collective Project CVS on sourceforge (or at plone.org/collective/) Approach I would take to learning CMF for developers: => Make sure you are comfortable creating Python Products in Zope => Understand that the ZMI is a legacy UI, in CMF tools and content types it will only be used for administration purposes. This has the upside of lighter-weight code when you are creating CMF tools and content types because you don't have to do as much ZMI UI stuff. => Keep in mind this conceptual principle: you will be creating two types of components in the CMF: content components and software components. Your application is the glue that binds them together, and your application is usually made from lightweight, TTW code and presentation components residing in the skins folders in the skins tool. So in a MVC-like sense, the model is content components in folders or repositories, and software components in CMF tools in the root of the CMF site; the controller is the collective skin python scripts in your application that do any of the application specific control of the content or the tools; the presentation is the use of ZPTs, DTML, global images, etc in the skins folders that render the application. The big thing here is to understand that the CMF skins are really 'application suites' - each skin is its own app suite, and one CMF 'site' can have multiple app suites or skins. Each skin can obviously do multiple things, and the ability to reuse presentation and 'controller script' components from one application/skin in another is enabled by the way the portal_skins tool layers folders in an ordered manner and allows common functionality to be shared and generic functionality to be superceded by more specific. => Take a look at some of the howtos at: http://plone.org/documentation/howto/ => http://plone.org/documentation/howto/FrontPage/HowToWriteYourOwnContentType => Familiarize yourself with the various aspects and/or tools of the CMF one piece at a time: the skins tool, workflow, etc. => For what its worth, digest docs on http://cmf.zope.org/doc => Subscribe to the Zope-CMF and Plone-users list and read messages of interest to you. => Hang out in #plone and #zope for help when you need it along the way. Over the last year, I've had to learn a lot of the CMF development story the hard way, and as a busy person, I've had to be a bit patient. Over the next few weeks, I'm putting together CMF training materials for internal training sessions at my company, and would be happy to share any slides/documents I put together if you want to mail me off-list in 2-3 weeks. locked out of zope

Hello I am currently running zope on windows and i a have ran into a bit of a problem. I was in the middle of creating a new user and i began to play around with the various options in acl_users. The last thing i remember doing was pressing the "encrpyt all passwords button" and saving the changes I logged out and tried to log back in again with the new user that i had just created but it wouldnt accept the username and passwd. So i tried to use my existing user names and it wouldnt accept any of them either.The postion im in now is that iam totally locked out of the zmi. I dont know how to create an emergency user in windows, if i have to even do this at all. Please help me. Object Acquisition

Sorry to be a bother, seems trivial, just can't seem to find the right syntax for it... How do I check if a particular object exists ONLY in the current folder (the context) and is not being acquired? Roles on the fly

Hi all: I have defined some roles and I need to assign the roles to the users in a dynamic way... I'm thinking in doing that in the __call__ method of the root object of my hierarchy, there I modify the Request to authenticate the user with X.509 certificates and change the user roles... I the correct way? A lot of thanks...

CMF tutorials and documentation

Hi all: I wonder if someone can tell if there is a complete tutorial on CMF ? We have been browsing and peeking at the CMF's dogbowl and have (sadly) discovered that CMF's documentation resembles too much what Zope's itself documentation was a few years ago: There is no consistency in the docs (CMF), they are all scatered around in an -apparently, at least- no sense way, they refer to older versions... We are just trying to implement first CMF based systems, nevertheless got stuck again with the very high slope learning curve.... For the IT guys, "the source is their best friend", we know, but that it not the case for the end user-ish side of things. Any ideas, sugguestions, references or comments, are welcome to the list. SIGUSR2 not working in 2.6.1?

I've been trying to figure out how to use SIGUSR2 for log rotation with Zope 2.6.1, and am having no luck. The transcript below shows a sample attempt to move Z2.log, create a new one, then use SIGUSR2 to get Zope to reopen the log, hopefully with the new file. My event log indicates that Zope's received the signal and it claims to have reopened the logs, but the old, moved log is still being updated. Note that using SIGHUP works. All this is happening on Zope 2.6.1, FreeBSD 4.5, Python 2.1.3. Stefan, In addition to use of a VHM as George recommends, it is worth adding that you either want to be using Apache or Squid in front of Zope (with URL rewriting abilities; make your forward web-server's url rewrite rules look similar to the suggestions in the documentation in your VHM instance; Apache uses mod_rewrite, and Squid can use a 'redirector' of your choice). In Apache, you set up the rewrite rules in each virtual host entry in httpd.conf (though I think in Apache you can only do path rewrites?). In Squid, you use a redirector of your choice (I like http://freshmeat.net/projects/pyredir) to control redirection (aka rewriting of back end urls for the proxy). One other note on Virtual hosting and Plone and/or CMF sites: an interesting practice is the idea of using a single physical CMF site providing a unified software and content base but having multiple skins, each representing a different virtual host. This utiltizes the toggleSkin recipe on zopelabs (you can search for it there). This is useful in some, but not all situations (and may likely not be useful in your situation, but on a discussion about virtual hosting and CMF/Plone, it is worth bringing up). CMF Site as default zope site

Hi all, I know this question may is stupid for a lot of you, but I did try now for to many hours without success...... How do I get a Plone Site in Zope (CMF Plone) as default site. I can access right now with http://domain/Plone but I want it to be http://domain <http://domain/> At the moment the Zope Quick Start is there. Thanks for your help.
