It generates thumbnail views of images at the user's preferred size. Requires PIL. http://www.zope.org/Members/Drew/Photo * Itamar Shtull-Trauring announced ZCache v0.2. ZCache is a Python Product which allows you to cache expensive methods, taking strain off your server. He explains how volatile attributes work, and how to populate them when your object is loaded from the database. Volatile attributes are attributes which do not get written to the database, and are good for data which changes frequently. http://www.zope.org/Members/Zen/tips/VolatileAttributes * "AlexR" submitted a How-To detailing the use of the DTML entity syntax. "DTML entities" are chunks of DTML which look like this: "&dtml-title_or_id;" http://www.zope.org/Members/AlexR/EntitySyntax Notable Discussions * DTML is a HUGE topic this week. Discussions spill across several lists. A very good job is done of identifying DTML's weak points. Many hold that the difficulty in using DTML comes from it's roots as a reporting language-- it isn't supposed to be used for logic. The problem is, there isn't yet an easy replacement for DTML as a programming language. Python Methods are cited as an excellent start on providing a means of moving logic out of DTML. Christopher Petrilli mentions that DC is looking at grooming Python Methods for inclusion in Zope. Others feel that reporting vs. programming is a forced distinction, and that it is awkward to have to use two different solutions. The claim that generating HTML is actually a rather complex task, and the powerful but ugly features of DTML are a necessary evil. DTML is compared to Perl! <gasp!> Otherwise, lots of very useful tips for using DTML are revealed. A number of folks from Digital Creations provide answers. Because Acquisition can lead to different URLs being generated for images when viewed from different locations, it makes caching difficult and can generate excessive traffic. New version of Local File System

I've released a new version of the Local File System product, version 0.1.4. This version fixes major problems with acquisition, so I recommend anyone using the product upgrade to this version. Zope 2.1.3 released

Hi all, Zope 2.1.3 has been released. This update contains fixes for a race condition that could cause Zope to hang on very high-traffic sites, two database packing bugs, and a bug that caused Zope to sometimes hang instead of shutting down when the shutdown function was accessed over a very fast network. This release fixes a significant bug in local nt domain determination to upgrade, delete the old nt user folder, install the new product, restart zope and create the new user folder Still no doc, you have to read the source to understand the product. mod_pcgi2 version 1.0.0

Hello! After some period of testing, after getting few success stories I changed the module version to 1.0.0! Welcome here: http://www.zope.org/Members/phd/mod_pcgi2 Almost nothing have changed since version 0.4.0. I made some cosmetic changes, but there are few of them. If you are running 0.4.0, you don't need to upgrade. I've tested the module on pentium linux and sparc solaris, in DSO (shared apache) and non-DSO (static, all apache modules compiled in). The only test I didnt tried is uploading huge binary file via PCGI. I am freezing my work on the module for some period (or until I got a bug report). It seems I don't need new features, entire PCGI protocol is implemented, and the module is well tested, debugged and now is used on a few sites (I have no URLs of other sites, only my URLs). The next thing to implement will be autoconf/configure to make installation simpler; after some period I hope to return to work on it. [ANNOUNCE] ZopeMozilla CVS, and a first setup for ZopeStudio

Hello all, A new CVS module has been set up for code relating to the Zope Mozilla project. It can be browsed with cvsweb: http://cvs.zope.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/ZopeMozilla/ If you want to check out files from this module, read the Public CVS access instructions: http://classic.zope.org:8080/Community/CVS_public_access and substitute ZopeMozilla for Zope2. We plan to give write access to the CVS to certain people in the Zope-community in the very near future. There are different sub-projects within the Zope Mozilla project, each with their own sub directory in the ZopeMozilla module. Next to code related to these projects, documentation will also be checked into these directories. I hope to get check-in messages emailed to either Zope-Mozilla or Zope-Checkins, when Ken Manheimer returns next week. I have checked a first setup for ZopeStudio in. It consists of two related pieces; one Zope Product, that generates the data needed in the interface, and one Mozilla chrome package, that defines the interface. Each live in their own subdir again. To look at what I've done, you can go one of two ways: 1. Check out the whole ZopeStudio package into a new directory named ZopeStudio: cvs -z7 checkout -d ZopeStudio ZopeMozilla/ZopeStudio And then link or copy ZopeProduct/ZopeStudio into your Zope lib/python/Products subdirectory, and do the same with MozillaChrome/zopestudio, into your Mozilla bin/chrome directory. 2. Check out the separate packages out into your Zope lib/python/Products and Mozilla bin/chrome directories. In your Zope install lib/python/Products: cvs -z7 checkout -d ZopeStudio ZopeMozilla/ZopeStudio/ZopeProduct/ZopeStudio and in your Mozilla install bin/chrome: cvs -z7 checkout -d zopestudio ZopeMozilla/ZopeStudio/MozillaChrome/zopestudio After either one of these steps, you restart your Zope server, and start up Mozilla with the command: mozilla -chrome chrome://zopestudio/content When the interface has loaded, enter the URL of your Zope server and press Enter. Have fun! Requirements: Zope 2.x (tested on Zope 2.1.2 but should work on older versions) Mozilla M12 (tested on a recent nightly build).
