About Five
----------
Five is a Zope 2 product that allows you to integrate Zope 3
technologies into Zope 2, today. It allows you to use the following
parts of the Zope 3 component architecture within Zope 2:
* Zope 3 interfaces
* adapters
* pages (views), including skins, layers and resources
* edit and add forms, based on schemas
* ZCML
We've tried to keep the Five experience as close to Zope 3 as
possible, so this means that what you learn while using Five should
also be applicable to Zope 3.
More information about Five can be found on our website, here:
http://codespeak.net/z3/five/
We hope you'll join our mailing list and let hear from yourself!
About the Zope 3 Base
---------------------
Five is part of the *Zope 3 Base* project, which aims to offer an
approachable area for developers of Zope 3 related software. More
about the Zope 3 base and its projects can be found here:

Hello,
The New Zealand Zope Users Group (NZZUG) website has been created with
the following objective (taken from the NZZUG site's homepage): "Our aim
is to promote the use and ongoing development of Zope, Plone and Python
technologies in NZ."
Currently the site's focal point is a mailing list but it's intended to
eventually contain a directory of Plone/Zope Solution Providers in New
Zealand.
The site's sponsor is TheVirtual Limited, who have been developing
Plone/Zope solutions for over 5 years now and are very interested in
promoting Plone/Zope in New Zealand, especially its multi-lingual
capabilities.
If you are based in New Zealand, please take a look at the site, join
the mailing list, and help Plone/Zope to grow in New Zealand!
If you have any queries about NZZUG or anything else, feel free to
contact me.
Kind regards,
--

Making Virtual Business Reality
Hi,
I've just released Epoz 2.0.0. Main new features are:
- You can now use several Epoz-Wysiwyg-areas on a single page at once.
This feature was often requested (esp. for use with Archetypes) and
Benoit Pin did a really great job on making this real. Many, many
Thanks, Benoit! Never thought that this was possible at all...;) Sorry,
it took so long to roll the things out on my side...
- The customizing of the Toolbar should be easier now with CSS.
- Several other fixed stated in the CHANGES.txt (!!! Please read it
before updating Epoz!!!)
Download Epoz at:

Dear Zope Community,
on behalf of Zope Corporation and all Zope 2 developers and contributors
I am pleased to announce the release of Zope 2.8.0 beta 2
Zope 2.8.0 b2 can be downloaded from
http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.8.0b2
The release notes can be found at
http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.8.0b2/CHANGES.txt
For information on using Python 2.4 with Zope 2.8: see doc/INSTALL.txt
This release is a major step towards Zope 2.8.0 final (scheduled for the
3rd week of May
2005) and now includes for the first time the "Five" framework to make some
Zope 3 technologies available within Zope 2. So you will be able to use Z3
technologies like interfaces, adapters, schemas and views within your Zope
2 installation and have hopefully the best from the Zope 2 and the Zope 3
world.

I am pleased to announce the release of PloneCollectorNG 1.2.7 (PCNG)
PloneCollectorNG is a Plone-based bugtracking solution and framework.
This is basically a bug-fix release and incorporates a bunch of fixes
collected over the last half year.
Changes since V 1.2.6:
- added new configuration where you can choose to display the
'contact_email' field or not
- Copying a collector caused the loss of all workflow states
- fixed UnicodeDecodeError in notifications.py which issues containing
non-ascii
characters
- misc bug fixes

I am pleased to announce the final release of TextIndexNG V 3.0.0.
TextIndexNG V 3 is a complete new implementation based on Zope 3
technologies
and can be used both in Zope 2.8 or 2.7 (with Five) or in Zope 3.
What's new?
- multi-field indexing and query support
- multi-lingual support
- configurable converters (through ZCML)
- new indexing API (allowing you to hook your custom content types with
TextIndexNG
through Zope 3 adapters).
Changes since V 3.0.0:
- core query options are now available from _apply_index()
- new query option 'similarity_ratio'
- splitted configuration into Zope 2 and TextIndexNG3 core related
configuration files
- removed some Zope 2 dependencies from the "textindexng" package
- incorporated some patches by Ivo van der Wijk to integrate
TextIndexNG3 as index
for Zope 3.1 (requires to uncomment some lines in
src/textindexng/configure.zcml)
- updated documentation on query syntax and query options (see
doc/README.txt)
- some more tests
Requirements:
- Zope 2.8 or Zope 2.7 (+ Five) or Zope 3 (Zope 3 has nothing like
catalogs yet)
TextIndexNG V3 will *not* run with bare Zope 2.7 installations without
Five
(and this will not be changed in the future).
Download:
http://sf.net/projects/textindexng
For installation and documentation issues refer to doc/README.txt from the
archive.
It's basically the same procedure as with former versions except you *need*
to
recompile the extension modules. Windows binaries of the required extension
modules
are currently not available (any volunteers?).
TextIndexNG V 3 is published under the GPL.

I'm pleased to announce the release of ZODB 3.4 beta 1. This corresponds to
the ZODB that will ship in Zope 2.8b2. You can download a source tarball or
Windows installer from:
http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.4
Note that there are two Windows installers, for Python 2.3 (2.3.5 is
recommended) and Python 2.4 (2.4.1 is recommended).
ZODB 3.4b1 contains many bugfixes and new features, including:
- savepoint/rollback support, a powerful generalization of
subtransactions allowing to revert to any savepoint'ed state
within a transaction
- auto-synchronization with storages after a transaction commit
or abort, and at the explict start (transaction.begin()) of a
transaction
- a way to register callbacks invoked just before a transaction
starts to commit -- see the new transaction.beforeCommitHook()
- a new release of ZConfig
See the news file for details:
http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.4/NEWS.html
Note that ZODB 3.4 does not support any version of Zope 2.6 or 2.7. Current
Zope 2.8 and Zope 3 development use ZODB 3.4. The ZODB 3.3 line is
officially retired (3.3.1 final was the last release in the 3.3 line).
Zope Corporation will hold the next session of Zope 3 for Developers
training June 27-29 in Fredericksburg, VA. This three day course will
familiarize developers with Zope 3 software from introductory through
advanced concepts. The take-away materials provide tools for further
learning, since it will not be possible to cover every topic in the
sessions. We will demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of Zope as
an Open Source web development Platform.
Course Objectives
To understand:
* Zope's component architecture,
* Creating Zope components and applications,
* Building web interfaces,
* Controlling security,
* Using powerful Zope framework features e.g., events, metadata, schemas,
testing,
* Configuring and installing Zope
The course is intended for developers who want to build web applications
using the Zope 3 web-application server.
Students should be familiar with the Python programming language and the
concepts associated with web application development. While not required,
students will benefit from having some familiarity with Zope 2-based
application development.
We offer several opportunities to meet with Zope's engineering teams,
including with Jim Fulton, our CTO.
Prerequisites
Download Zope 2.7 and take the built-in tutorial:
http://zope.org/Products/Zope/2.7.0
Take the Python Tutorial:
http://docs.python.org/tut/tut.html
For the early-bird rate, you must register by May 27th, 2005.
