Five 1.2.1 and 1.3.2 released!

The Five team is happy to announce two bugfixes releases of Five today, Five 1.2.1 and 1.3.2! What is Five ------------ Five is a Zope 2 product that allows you to integrate Zope 3 technologies into Zope 2, today. Among others, it allows you to use Zope 3 interfaces, ZCML-based configuration, adapters, browser pages (including skins, layers, and resources), automated add and edit forms based on schemas, object events, as well as Zope 3-style i18n message catalogs. We've tried to keep the Five experience as close to Zope 3 as possible, so this means that what you learn while using Five should also be applicable to Zope 3, and viceversa. Changes in Five 1.2.1/1.3.2 --------------------------- * Five's traversing machinery now mimicks the ZPublisher correctly: When no Zope 3-style view is found, first the object's original ``__bobo_traverse__`` is tried. If that does not exist, Traversable resorts to attribute look-up. * Unit tests that did i18n via Localizer would fail because the request attribute that keeps Localizers list of preferred languages did not exist. The CMF developer community and Zope Corporation are pleased to announce the release of version 2.0.0-beta of the Zope Content Management Framework (CMF). This release is intended for testing purposes only; we do not recommend deploying it to production servers. The CMF 2.0.0 final release is planned for the end of March 2006. What's new in this release? This is the first beta for CMF 2.0.0, the latest feature release. In addition to countless bug fixes and minor improvements, this release features many noteworthy additions, such as: - GenericSetup-integration as the replacement for the CMFSetup technology started in the CMF 1.5-series - the use of Zope 3-style interfaces throughout, bridged back to Zope 2-interfaces where needed for backwards compatibility - widespread integration with Zope 3/Five technologies, and the folding-in of the previous CMFonFive addon-product - pluggable TypeInformation objects - new-style Actions What is the CMF? The CMF developer community and Zope Corporation are pleased to announce the release of version 1.6.0 of the Zope Content Management Framework (CMF). This release marks the first stable release in the CMF 1.6 series and should be suitable for production use. What is the CMF? The Zope Content Management Framework provides a set of services and content objects useful for building highly dynamic, content-oriented portal sites. As packaged, the CMF generates a site much like the zope.org site. The CMF is intended to be easily customizable, in terms of both the types of content used and the policies and services it provides. What's new in this release? The CMF 1.6 release series acts as an intermediary between the stable 1.5 series and the 2.0 feature release. It allows developers an easy upgrade path from 1.5 and the ability to take advantage of one of the most interesting features from the upcoming major feature release, GenericSetup. Where do I get it? MVCC solves nearly every problem with ZODB read-conflict errors which is very important for high-traffic Zope sites. - Extension Classes were rewritten as Python new-style classes making all features of Python new-style classes available in Zope objects. Announcing the Apogee project: rich client for ECM applications

I'm pleased to announce the Apogee project. Apogee aims at building an content management and collaboration rich client on top of the Eclipse RCP, by providing all the services needed: - content creation, management and consumption, including search, classification, workflow, etc. - synchronisation for off-line work - groupware, including e-mail, instant messaging and calendaring It is based on open standard, including W3C XML Schemas, XForms, XMPP, RDF... Obviously this will be a Java application. How is it related to Zope then? 1. We will implement it first on projects based on CPS (but we also aim at making it independent of the ECM platform used on the server). 2. It is a byproduct of two projects we started last year for providing rich client applications on top of CPS (for AFP - Agence France-Presse, and for the French institute of statutory auditors). The Zope Software Certification Program and Common Repository Proposal

Hello everyone, With the development of Zope 3, the Zope developers committed to a new development process and higher software quality guidelines. With the adoption of Zope 3 technologies in the wider Zope community, we should also start using the process for third party package development. I have spent the last two weeks working on a proposal that defines a Zope Software Certification Program (ZSCP) and a Common Repository that implements this process. The proposal is attached to this mail. I welcome any comments about it! In the pre-publication phase of the proposal, I have worked with a small committee to receive initial feedback. For the purpose of this proposal, I will not be representing a particular Zope sub-community, but instead act as a mediator among the parties of interest. I will try my best to answer all concerns and comments in a neutral manner. I would like to thank all pre-proposal committee members for their time and valuable input. Thanks for your time!
