zope_messages alpha version released!

Hi! I'm glad to announce the release of zope_messages version 0.1.0 to the community! What is zope_messages? zope_messages is a messaing client for Zope. (Actually, it could be used without Zope in the future - but that's a different story.) Its architecture is intended to support many (every?) kind of message; nntp, imap, jabber, icq and so on. (How good web interfaces are for all those messages is a different subject.) iMeme¹ needed a new webmail client, and Thingamy² too. Hey presto! New project up and running before you could say "chicken pie with raw potatoes." The mailing list is at http://lists.imeme.net/ - please feel to join, the more the merrier. Getting zope_messages Since this is an alpha release, I haven't added a distribution of the sources on zope.org or any similar place, yet. I expect there will be loads of comments and bugfixes and when I've integrated those (and added a couple of more nice features I'd like to get in there) I'll be publishing the sources. If you are interested in getting them now, just send me an email and I'll tarball it up for you. :-) Check out the demo At http://www.thingamy.com:11000/zope-messages there is an instance up and running just begging to be tested to death. Go on, try it... I know you want to... username: mailtest password: mailtest Brief tutorial Look up the URL. Click "New message" and fill out whatever you like (please do not abuse this - you can send to whom you'd like and the recipient would stand as myself. Any abuse and the demo goes right down - I'm adding a BCC header to each message sent out..). Notice that you can use Noa Harvey's Spellchecker product to spellcheck the messages before you ship them off. To the top right-hand corner of your browser window, you should have a dropdown box. Select "Virtual message container" and press "View". Press "IMAP account at thingamy.com"... you should now see the messages. Cool, huh? WarpFramework I used Morten Petersen's WarpFramework (pick up your copy at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/warp-framework) to have a lot of nitty gritty stuff done for me, and this has made the development of the product easier. The layout comes from the WarpFramework, and is created by Alan Runyan, Alexander Limi and Vidar Andersen. Kudos! Zope Controller GUI Windows 1.0 release

Bizar Software is pleased to make available the first release of their Zope Controller GUI for Windows. All functionality is present, but the documentation is lacking. This release is definitely only for people who know their way around their Windows Zope installation. Please read the installation notes (such that they are) carefully! The Windows Zope Controller is a Graphical User Interface for Windows which allows user-friendly control of a Zope server on the local machine. This is a modified version of the controller we will ship with the next version of our Bizar Shop software product. The modification involves the removal of some Shop-specific code that simply doesn't apply to Zope. Zope-XML lives!

Hello everybody, The Zope-XML mailing list has moved to a new home at zope.org. The old mailing list that was hosted at yahoo groups (formerly egroups) has become rather quiet and is now superceded by this new one. Since Zope and XML development is now gearing up again with ParsedXML and the release of XPath Methods, this was a good occasion to move the list. The list is intended to use for discussion of all aspects of Zope/XML infrastructure. Both those who want to use the present infrastructure and those who want to develop it further are welcome. zwiki 0.9.5 released

ZWiki 0.9.5 released, to get things moving again. Bang on it if you didn't already try 0.9.5pre1. I'm going to keep on with 0.9.x releases until I get a good solid 1.0 feeling. Come kick some tires, at new.zope.org

Hi all, As some of you may know already, we've been hard at work building a new iteration of the Zope.org community website, one based on the CMF. This is an invitation to come and have a look at what we are doing for the new Zope.org server, and have a good kick at the tires. The idea is to get solid feedback from the community to iron out all the wrinkles and bugs that undoubtedly will be in there. You can find the server at: http://new.zope.org/ Please note however, that this is an early preview, and there are several known issues: - If you had a login on Zope.org about 2 months ago, chances are that you won't have to create a new account on new.zope.org; the LDAP database backing the site uses a 2-month old export. If you changed your password but not your email address during this time, the server can email you your password for the new server. If both changed, please email webmaster(a)zope.org for assistance. When we officially switch over, a new export will be created. - Because the current www.zope.org/dev.zope.org combination uses domain-wide cookies (.zope.org) and an incompatible session key, you cannot be logged into www.zope.org if you want to log into new.zope.org as well. Either delete the .zope.org cookie, use the 'Log out' link on www.zope.org, or use a different browser for each site. - Don't make any important changes or new content on new.zope.org and expect them to be retained. All changes to content on new.zope.org will be ignored the next time we migrate over content from the current site. ZOQL Method 0.3.0 released

Hello everyone, Yes, it is me... again. I was on the role today and implemented a couple more features: 1. I added support for ALTER. You can now add, rename and delete properties from ZClass objects and any sort of other object instance, that supports the standard Property Manager or Property Sheet interface. 2. I added a XML-RPC-friendly execution method to the ZOQL Method class, which allows us to use the ZOQL Method as a server component, since you can send new commands directly to the interpreter. 3. Based on the XML-RPC support, I wrote a complete Command Line Client. You can use the client to execute queries from a file or use the interactive command line, similar to the PostGreSQL and Python interactive interpreter. There is also a nice help coming with the product. It can be run totally independent of the rest of the ZOQL Method, since it does not depend on any of the other modules. I also created a ** Mailing List ** and prepared a ** Poll **, where people can tell me what they think about the product! Please send me everything, good or bad! ZOQL Method 0.2.0 released

Hello everyone, I am very pleased to announce the initial release of ZOQL Method, version 0.2.0! What does ZOQL stand for? As you might have guessed, ZOQL stands for Zope Object Query Language. What does it do? With ZOQL you can query through the ZODB and retrieve objects, as you might be used to from SQL. Other statements, such as INSERT, CREATE, UPDATE, DELETE are supported as well. I hope to implement the ALTER statement soon. For more details on the language go to: http://demo.iuveno-net.de/iuveno/Products/ZOQLMethod/Documentation. The online help has also the reference as well as a nice and long example. Does the ZOQL try to compete with the ZCatalog? No, not at all! In fact, ZOQL uses the ZCatalog to implement its Indexes. Yes, ZOQL can use a ZCatalog for queries, instead of walking through the tree itself. Can I create Classes with ZOQL? Yes! You can create Products and put Classes into it. This is in particular useful for making temporary classes quickly. Later it will also serve as a method to generate Products from Case Tools like ObejctDomain. At the moment only ZClasses are supported though. Does it implement any standard? No! Back in May, when I first thought about ZOQL, I looked at many of the current so-called "standards". At the end, there were basically three choices left. Use (1) XPath/XQuery, (2) OQL/OCL or (3) implement a new language. Well, while XPath is okay, it really does not support any object manipulation and XQuery's syntax on the other hand is unacceptable for a Python programmer in my opinion. The OQL/OCL is supposed to be THE official standard for object-oriented query languages; yeah right, after reading a good chunk of the specs it was so obvious that it was horribly Java-bias, having three different data structures for a simple list... Well, so I was left with choice number 3. So I wrote down the original language reference and tried to keep it as close to SQL as I could. But the next task was to write a parser. This was the end of the project, until Thomas Foerster used Aaron Watter's kwParsing engine to implement the basic parser last month. Thanks a lot for the work! He gave the entire language a Pythonic twist by copying large parts of the Python Language Reference. :-) I finally got around to implement the product this weekend.
