ANN: PloneCollectorNG 1.0 alpha 1 released

I am pleased to announce the release of PloneCollectorNG 1.0 alpha 1 (PCNG) PCNG is a bugtracking system for Plone. It is based on the concepts and ideas of CMFCollector and CMFCollectorNG but it is a complete re-write. One major highlight of this new version is the built-in TTW editor for Archetypes schemas. This means you can edit the complete fields for your issue (field types and widgets) through-the-web including the use of schemats etc. Another goal of the new implementation was to focus on security. So I dropped the old workflow and created a new one (which is much simpler). The codebase is very small and generic and therefore very much extensible for the future. This release should be very functional except the handling of issue references using Archetypes which is still a moving target. So except that this feature will change in the future. Also the i18n support is not completed yet (volunteers are welcome). Email notification has been added since the first 0.10. RevisionManager and ZopeTree on sourceforge now

Hello, a lot of you have showed interested in RevisionManager in the past, especially since the free article was published by ZopeMag. A lot of you have also sent in patches or bug reports and recently I have had to turn you down out of time reasons. I felt really bad, so I would not only like to thank you for showing interest, but include you in the development process. Therfore, I have opened a Sourceforge project for RevisionManager and ZopeTree and created three corresponding mailinglists. Everyone interested in further developing RevisionManager please get in contact with me in order to receive priviledges for participation. ANNOUNCE: Pound - reverse proxy and load balancer - v1.5

This is to announce the release of Pound v1.5. Changes in this version: - support for sessions by Basic Authentication: "Session BASIC" parameter added - stringent syntax checking of request. - user-defined request character set(s): new parameters CSsegment, CSparameter, CSqid, CSqval - option to limit the request size: parameter MaxRequest - single log function rather than #ifdefs. - added LogLevel 4 (same as 3 but without the virtual host info). - added HeadRemove directive (allows to delete a header from requests). - location rewriting on redirect (codes 301, 302, 303, 307): the content is changed to reflect the location for Pound rathre than the back-end - some bug fixes and speed improvements The software is at version 1.5 (production quality). Further testing (especially under heavy loads), improvements and suggestions are welcome. What is Pound (from the Web page) - a reverse-proxy: it passes requests from client browsers to one or more back-end servers. - a load balancer: it will distribute the requests from the client browsers among several back-end servers, while keeping session information. - an SSL wrapper: Pound will decrypt HTTPS requests from client browsers and pass them as plain HTTP to the back-end browsers. - an HTTP/HTTPS sanitizer: Pound will verify requests for correctness and accept only well-formed ones. - an HTTP/1.1 to 1.0 proxy. - a fail-over-server: should a back-end server fail, Pound will take note of the fact and stop passing requests to it until it recovers. - a request redirector - it will pass client requests to separate groups of servers, based on required URL and the presence or absence of headers (pattern matching) Pound was specifically developed to serve as a front-end for multiple instances of Zope running on top of a common ZEO storage, but can be used with any other web server. A patch for the Python source of z2.py is available as part of the distribution to allow using Pound's SSL capabilities. Pound is currently in use in several medium to large volume sites and seems to be holding up quite well: largest reported site does about 5.5 million requests per day, peaking at over 450 requests per second. The speed is well superior to other, equivalent solutions, the configuration is much simpler and the necessary resources (CPU, RAM, disk) are much, much lower. Pound is distributed under the GPL. Nuxeo announces PluggableUserFolder

PluggableUserFolder is a Zope user folder that is designed to be extensible in all ways. It supports extending via "plugins"to add support both for ways of identifying the users, such as using cookies instead of Basic HTTP Authentication, and adding new sources of users, such as LDAP or SQL sources, and also extending the role management, such as group support and black lists. It also supports using all of these simoultaneously. You can have users defined in Zope, in an SQL database and via LDAP, all at once. You can have groups and blacklists at the same time. I'm happy to announce the seventh release of Python Director. Python Director is a pure python TCP load balancer. It takes inbound TCP connections and connects them to one of a number of backend servers. Despite the version numbering (which looks scary), this is quite mature software - it's been in heavy use for well over 12 months, balancing FastCGI and HTTP connections to our backend Zope servers. Features: * async i/o based, so much less overhead than fork/thread based balancers. Can use either twisted or python's standard asyncore library (twisted is recommended, and asyncore support will be removed in a future version). * Multiple scheduling algorithms (random, round robin, leastconns, leastconns+roundrobin) * If a server fails to answer, it's removed from the pool - the client that failed to connect gets transparently failed over to a new host. * xml based configuration file * seperate management thread that periodically re-adds failed hosts if they've come back up. * optional builtin webserver for admin * webserver has methods suitable for both interactive and automated systems Changes from 0.0.6 to 0.0.7 - You can specify a hostname of '*' to the listen directive for both the scheduler and the administrative interface to mean 'listen on all interfaces'. Considerably more obvious than '0.0.0.0'. Thanks to Andrew Sydelko for the idea. - New "leastconnsrr" scheduler - this is leastconns, with a roundrobin as well. Previously, leastconns would keep the list of hosts sorted, which often meant one system got beaten up pretty badly. - Twisted backend group selection works again. - The client address is now passed to the scheduler's getHost() method. This allows the creation of "sticky" schedulers, where a client is (by preference) sent to the same backend server. ZODB 3.2 released

We are happy to announce that ZODB 3.2 has been released. You can find it at the usual place: http://www.zope.org/Products/ZODB3.2. This release is identical to the release candidate that was issued last week. What is ZODB? It is the Zope Object Database. It provides an object-oriented database for Python that provides a high-degree of transparency. Applications can take advantage of object database features with few, if any, changes to application logic. ZODB includes features such as a pluggable storage interface, rich transaction support, and undo.
