ZOPE 2.6.2 Beta 4 Released Zope 2.6.2b4 represents a development step in the next Zope release formed with a large number of community contributions. You may download Zope 2.6.2b4 from Zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.6.2b4/ Users of the Zope source release should note that Python 2.1.3 is now the required platform. Python 2.1.3 includes a fix to an issue that could cause crashes in Zope. Users who upgrade from source MUST RUN a |make clean| and |make| command to build the proper binaries correctly; distutils will skip compilation of the library modules needed for Zope and will cause errors if they are not up to date. ZODB3 3.3 alpha 1 released

The ZODB3 package provides a set of tools for using the Zope Object Database (ZODB) in Python programs separately from Zope. ZODB3 3.3a1 is an experimental version that is compatible with new-style classes. This version of ZODB currently works only with Python 2.3. The primary change is that ExtensionClass is gone: the Persistent base class is a regular Python type instead of an ExtensionClass type now. As a result, you should be able to use properties, descriptors, and other new Python features with persistent objects. Compatibility with other Python features new in 2.2 is also improved, primarily that 3.3 BTree-based containers participate in Python's newer iteration and __contains__ protocols. These changes were largely backported from ZODB4, used in Zope3. Development on ZODB4 has been suspended, and the intent is that the ZODB3 3.3 line will eventually be used in both Zope2 and Zope3. The current release has a lot of rough edges, but we hope developers will find it useful to give it a test drive. We have not tested Persistent objects that use properties or slots. We expect that code with getattr or setattr hooks will need to be written with care, probably using different techniques than in earlier versions of ZODB. [Ann] SkinnedFolder: skins for Zope Folders

SkinnedFolder is a tiny integration layer on top of Zope's Folder and the CMF's SkinsTool. It provides different skins for a Zope Folder. A skin is the third element in the bones-flesh-skin view on web applications. The bones correspond to the basic infrastructure with object classes and services, the flesh is the content and the skin provides for presentation and business logic. Separating skins (presentation) from flesh (content) provides for easier personalization, greater flexibility and simpler maintenance. The CMF SkinsTool allows to define a set of skins as a sequence of name spaces (called layers, usually folder like objects). It supports the notion of current skin. This skin is used as name space to extend the attribute resolution on the SkinsTool's parent. This parent appears to have as attributes all names defined and mapped to objects by the current skin. Switching the current skin allows for easy personalization of presentation and business logic by changing the attribute name to object map. This product integrates the SkinsTool with the standard Zope Folder. You must have CMFCore installed which you can get from the CMF distribution. Almost surely, you will only be interested in this product, when you want to separate presentation from content. You may want to use this product together with FileSystemSite. ZODB 3.1.2 final released

I'm pleased to announce the final release of ZODB 3.1.2. This release provides a large number of bug fixes, including several critical fixes that can lead to failures and data loss in race circumstances. The code in this release corresponds to the ZODB code in Zope 2.6.2. The primary changes between ZODB 3.1.1 and ZODB 3.1.2 are: The database now handles a transaction's invalidations atomically. In earlier versions of ZODB, a partial set of invalidations could be applied, presenting applications with an inconsistent view of the database. We fixed several bugs in ZEO's handling of invalidations messages. These bugs could lead to data loss or data corruption in some circumstances. Some of the ZEO bugs were related to the atomic invalidations change, but not all. Several of the ZEO bugs are probably also present in ZEO version 1. I would recommend that ZEO 1 users upgrade to ZEO 2 as soon as possible, as we are no longer maintaing ZEO 1 and have not fixed the bugs there. There is a new implementation of FileStorage pack that fixes several problems. The old version of pack could cause data loss in the presence of undo. There were a few small BTrees fixes. In one case, a segfault could occur if a BTree was modified by deletion while it was being iterated over. There were a few small changes between ZODB 3.1.2 beta 2 and the final release. I've included the relevant entries from the news file below. Fixed several bugs in FileStorage pack that could cause OverflowErrors for storages > 2 GB. Fixed memory leak in TimeStamp.laterThan() that only occurred when it had to create a new TimeStamp. Fixed two BTree bugs that were fixed on the head a while ago: - bug in fsBTree that would cause byValue searches to end early. (fsBTrees are never used this way, but it was still a bug.) - bug that lead to segfault if BTree was mutated via deletion while it was being iterated over.

Its main idea is to give you an extensible framework for building mailinglist-based applications with the power of ZOPE. Out of the box it provides a full featured mailinglist/ newsletter/ mailarchiving-framework. What is new? ------------ - added a new headers-option: MailBoxer will store additional mail-headers for each mail which match a regular-expression. The first release of XUF for nearly a year, contains new auth sources, including NIS contributed by Jason Gibson, and a first-cut of an LDAP auth source. NuxGroups support was provided by zigg and bmh. A bunch of irritating things were fixed, as well as a restructure of the code to bring it into line with later versions of Zope.
