Silva 2.2 alpha Released

Silva 2.2 alpha Released Infrae is pleased to announce the alpha release of Silva 2.2. This release adds a slew of new features for developers and system administrators, and is a quantum leap with Zope 2.11 and Five/Grok technology. Also the Sphinx-driven docs.infrae.com has gone online. New features, of interest to developers * Silva has been ‘eggified’. Buildout scripts can now retrieve eggs from https://dist.infrae.com/ and the Python Package Index (formerly the Cheese Shop). * Five/Grok views are supported. This lets you define Zope 3 Views to render content. * All Silva content types and services now use five.grok for configuration and registration. * Content types are now created and edited using the z3c forms component. * Generic Formlib and z3c forms support have been added to the ZMI. * The mechanism for previewing public pages has been refactored. No additional ZCML and view definitions are needed. Importantly, a Five namespace is used so that the author stays in preview mode even when navigating. * Publications can now become a subsite, meaning that they have local services that change their local configuration. * A separate metadata set to mark publications as virtual hosts is not needed. Now to get virtual hosts working you just have to configure Apache. * Filesystem-based layout has been refactored: it’s now much easier to define a layout and extend it. You can use Zope 3 views, content providers and viewlets. * Skin templates on the file system can be easily customized, via a customization service that duplicates the template in the ZODB. Customization can apply only to selected content with the help of customization markers, or to all content implementing one given interface (for instance all documents, or all containers). Manager users can then edit at will and make changes in a live server without restart. This is not a replacement for more robust development methods, but can be a great way to make small adjustments to parts of a site. New features, of interest to system administrators * BLOB support has been implemented. This provides the Zope 2.11 option to use BLOBs for storing binary objects. The existing ExtFile implementation is still fully supported. Out-of-the-box, binaries are still stored in the ZODB. * A user interface for conversion between ZODB binary storage, ExtFile binary storage and BLOB binary storage has been created. Migrate, or revert, with a button click. New features, of interest to users * Changes have been made in SilvaLayout with skin-based components added, such as viewlets, a viewlet manager, and content providers. * When previewing, an author can now navigate throughout the site, staying in preview mode. This holds not only for content but for all links in a template. Check out docs.infrae.com Silva 2.2 code has been used to generate developer documentation using Sphinx. See http://docs.infrae.com/. This is also an alpha. What is Silva? Silva is a powerful CMS for organizations that manage multiple or complex websites. Content is stored in clean and futureproof XML, independent of layout and presentation. Features include versioning, workflow system, integral visual editor (Kupu), content reuse, sophisticated access control, multi-site management, extensive import/ export facilities, fine-grained templating, and hi-res image storage and manipulation. MailingLogger 3.2.2 Released!

I'm pleased to announce a new release of Mailinglogger that finally correctly supports easy_install and so works fine with zc.buildout-based projects. In fact, MailingLogger has *become* a zc.buildout-based project for its development... Anyway, Mailinglogger provides two handlers for the standard python logging framework that enable log entries to be emailed either as the entries are logged or as a summary at the end of the running process. The handlers have the following features: - customisable and dynamic subject lines for emails sent - emails sent with an X-Mailer header for easy filtering - flood protection to ensure the number of emails sent is not excessive - support for SMTP servers that require authentication - fully documented and tested In addition, extra support is provided for configuring the handlers when using ZConfig, Zope 2 or Zope 3. First 'five.grok' release

First five.grok release The developers of five.grok are pleased to announce a 1.0a1 release. This is a milestone in the convergence of Zope 2 towards Zope 3 technology. The five.grok component makes the ease of Grok – with its convention over configuration approach – available to existing Zope 2 applications. The five.grok initiative was begun by Lennart Regebro and Godefroid Chapelle at the Paris Sprint at Ingeniweb. five.grok is already in use in Martin Aspeli's Dexterity and Infrae's content management system Silva. What is five.grok? five.grok is a development layer for Zope 2, based on Grok framework concepts. The development techniques are similar to those used in Grok. The component is based on grokcore namespace packages that were factored out of Grok. Implemented features five.grok makes the following components available to Zope 2 developers: * Zope 3 Component (Adapter, Utility, Subscribers) * Permissions * Views * Page Templates (using the Zope 2 Page Templates) * Formlib forms * Skins All these components are available with exactly the same syntax as in Grok. Grok 0.14 released!

The Grok team is happy to announce the release of Grok 0.14! This release is available on PyPI and a new index of specific versions of packages used by this release has been frozen at http://grok.zope.org/releaseinfo/grok-0.14.cfg. This means that new projects created with grokproject will start using this release right away. This release is the first release of Grok that officially supports Python 2.5 (besides Python 2.4 itself). The main focus of this release has been a restructuring of Grok, spinning off packages that can now be used independently in Zope 3 projects as well as in Zope 2 (through five.grok): * Spin off of grokcore.view - support for views is now maintained in this package. * Spin off of grokcore.security - support for security declarations is now maintained here * Spin off of grokcore.formlib - support for zope.formlib based forms * Spin off of grokui.admin - the admin UI is now distributed separately, but grokproject automatically will include it when you create a new grok project. * the grok.Skin baseclass is now gone and has been simplified with the grok.skin directive that can be placed on a layer instead. In this years summer of code, there are two related projects, Martin Lundwalls Component Registry Introspector, which I mentor, and Ulrich Fouquets Grok Introspector, which Martijn Faassen mentors. We have since the start of this planned to get together all four and work on this for some time, and the result of this is a two day mini-sprint on introspection for the Zope component architecture and various Zope variants, including Grok and Plone. The sprint is graciously hosted by Pilot Systems in Paris, the 21st and 22nd of July.
