Zope Corporation is delighted to announce its active participation in the Zope 3 Enterprise Content Management project recently organized by Nuxeo and joined by a number of community members. It's clear that the Zope Community will benefit from a consolidation of common patterns and their implementations in order to grow Zope's market share and we are excited to participate in this effort. In conjunction with the Zope Foundation we expect the Z3ECM project to set the example for global collaboration on sophisticated content management functionality and its application. We are looking forward to launching the Foundation with community involvement so that the Z3ECM project can safely share in the Zope brand. We would like to sincerely thank all of the pioneers who planted the seeds for this effort at the recent sprints (Castle, Paris, etc.). We know from first-hand, large-scale commercial experience that Zope 3 will excel at supporting this effort. Zope Corporation has been making substantial investments in Zope 3 evolution and associated add-on componentry for the last year. An example of this investment is the XML Process Definition Language (XPDL) support that is now available in Zope 3. XPDL support is the first in a series of substantial, customer-inspired contributions that Zope Corporation will be making to the ZECMP over the coming months. Together with Nuxeo's significant ongoing investment in CPS (the Zope 3 version of which will also be contributed to the Z3ECM) we expect the platform will quickly evolve to be the world-leading content management platform. We also propose a name change to the project from Z3ECM to Zope Enterprise Content Management Platform (ZECMP). This will allow the project to disassociate from Zope 3 (it seems likely that there will be 2.8/"5" ports of many/most capabilities). It also makes for a natural transition to the Zope Foundation when that's available in the early Fall. Thanks again to everyone who has helped get Zope 3 and these ideas to this exciting point! ANNOUNCE: Zope Foundation

Zope Corporation has begun the process of creating a Zope Foundation. The Zope Foundation will provide a mechanism for managing the various Zope projects (e.g., Zope 2, the Zope CMF, Zope 3, and other Zope community projects) in a vendor neutral way. The Foundation will have global copyrights over the Zope source code (to include Zope 2, Zope 3, and any other projects managed by the Foundation) as well as a limited, world-wide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual license to use the Zope trademarks (i.e., "Zope" and the "Circle Z") to brand its software releases. In addition, zope.org will be operated and maintained by the Foundation. The Foundation's governance mechanisms are being developed by taking the most appropriate ideas from other leading open source projects. These mechanisms are being developed and legally reviewed. We will launch the Foundation by or before the end of October 2005. We have scheduled an IRC session to answer questions from the community about the Foundation. ZODB 3.4 final released

I'm pleased to announce the release of ZODB 3.4 final. This corresponds to the ZODB that will ship in Zope 2.8. You can download a source tarball or Windows installer from: http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.4 Note that there are two Windows installers, for Python 2.3 (2.3.5 is recommended) and Python 2.4 (2.4.1 is recommended). Only minor changes were made since ZODB 3.4b1. See the news file for details: http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.4/NEWS.html Note that ZODB 3.4 does not support any version of Zope 2.6 or 2.7. Current Zope 2.8 and Zope 3 development use ZODB 3.4. The ZODB 3.3 line is officially retired (3.3.1 final was the last release in the 3.3 line).

June 2, 2005 -- Nuxeo is happy to release CPSSharedCalendar 1.0beta. CPSSharedCalendar is an advanced, flexible calendaring component for Zope and CPS3. It allows CPS users to access personal calendars using a web interface. Events on the calendar can be shared between multiple users, as a user can invite others to an event. This event will then appear on the calendar of the invited users as well. Features of the CPSSharedCalendar include among others: * a web interface for managing calendars, * integration with iCalendar clients (Apple iCal, Mozilla Sunbird, KOrganizer...) using the iCalendar protocol, * invitation workflow, * meeting support, * meeting helper that looks for free time, * etc. CPSSharedCalendar is built on a reusable core and is thus not just for CPS. F I am pleased to announce the release of TextIndexNG V 3.0.2. TextIndexNG V 3 is a complete new implementation based on Zope 3 technologies and can be used both in Zope 2.8 or 2.7 (with Five) or in Zope 3. What's new? - multi-field indexing and query support - multi-lingual support - configurable converters (through ZCML) - new indexing API (allowing you to hook your custom content types with TextIndexNG through Zope 3 adapters). Changes since V 3.0.2: - multi-field query support added: the query parser now accepts queries where you can search within multiple fields using a single query e.g. 'title::phrase(The Zope Book) and author::or(michel amos)' which searches for all documents with the exact title 'The Zope Book' and where the author field contains 'michel' or 'amos'. See doc/README.txt for details on the query syntax. - new extension module 'txngstemmer' providing language dependant stemmer support based on the Snowball stemmer library. This is a reimplementation of the older PyStemmer extension module based on the new Snowball reimplementation allowing a much cleaner and easier integration. Outstanding compilation problems and problems with unicode should be finally resolved. Stemmer support will be added to TextIndexNG in a later version. Requirements: - Zope 2.8 or Zope 2.7 (+ Five) or Zope 3 (Zope 3 has nothing like catalogs yet) TextIndexNG V3 will *not* run with bare Zope 2.7 installations without Five (and this will not be changed in the future). This is to announce the release of Pound v1.9. Changes in this version: - Added the VerifyList configuration flag (CA root certs + CRL) - CRL checking code - RewriteRedirect 2 - ignores port value for host matching - Added -c flag (check-only mode) - Added -v flag (verbose mode) - Added -p flag for pid file name Problems fixed: - fixed a potential buffer overflow problem (in checking the Host header) - added call to SSL_library_init - added a check for MSIE before forcing SSL shutdown - X-SSL-Cipher header is added only if HTTPSHeaders is non-zero - added code for shorter linger on badly closed connections (IE work-around) - fixed the locking for session checking (mutex_lock/unlock) The software is at version 1.9 (production quality). Further testing (especially under heavy loads), improvements and suggestions are welcome. What is Pound (from the Web page) - a reverse-proxy: it passes requests from client browsers to one or more back-end servers. - a load balancer: it will distribute the requests from the client browsers among several back-end servers, while keeping session information. - an SSL wrapper: Pound will decrypt HTTPS requests from client browsers and pass them as plain HTTP to the back-end browsers. - an HTTP/HTTPS sanitizer: Pound will verify requests for correctness and accept only well-formed ones. - an HTTP/1.1 to 1.0 proxy. - a fail-over-server: should a back-end server fail, Pound will take note of the fact and stop passing requests to it until it recovers. - a request redirector - it will pass client requests to separate groups of servers, based on required URL and the presence or absence of headers (pattern matching) Pound was specifically developed to serve as a front-end for multiple instances of Zope running on top of a common ZEO storage, but can be used with any other web server. A patch for the Python source of z2.py is available as part of the distribution to allow using Pound's SSL capabilities. Pound is currently in use in several medium to large volume sites and seems to be holding up quite well: largest reported site does about 5.5 million requests per day, peaking at over 450 requests per second. The speed is well superior to other, equivalent solutions, the configuration is much simpler and the necessary resources (CPU, RAM, disk) are much, much lower. Pound is distributed under the GPL.
