Roundup 0.4.0 - an issue tracking system If you are upgrading please read MIGRATION.txt. Roundup requires python 2.1.1 for correct operation. Support for dumbdbm requires python 2.1.2 or 2.2. It is based on the winning design from Ka-Ping Yee in the Software Carpentry "Track" design competition. Note: Ping is not responsible for this project. Roundup manages a number of issues (with flexible properties such as "description", "priority", and so on) and provides the ability to (a) submit new issues, (b) find and edit existing issues, and (c) discuss issues with other participants. The system will facilitate communication among the participants by managing discussions and notifying interested parties when issues are edited. One of the major design goals for Roundup that it be simple to get going. Roundup is therefore usable "out of the box" with any python 2.0+ installation. It doesn't even need to be "installed" to be operational, though a disutils-based install script is provided. It comes with two issue tracker templates and three database back-ends.

Zope on UNIX security patches available

New Medical/Healthcare Python/Zope user group - Zopymed

>From an idea on the Openhealth mailing list, we've setup a new user-group for Zope/Python users involved in the Medical/Healthcare fields (and surrounding fields, such as Education, Research, BioInformatics) ...or ZoPyMed for short! Just a mailing list so far - http://maillist.linuxmednews.org/mailman/listinfo/zopymed - but we can setup an associated website if there is sufficient interest. Short-term, the list is a place to ask questions and share ideas, code, tips and useful-links. Long-term, we might aim to create reusable components/functionality and promote interoperability between different applications. But the "agenda" is very fluid, and open to suggestions! So, if you're using Zope/Python and are involved in Medical/Health-related IT, please join up, introduce yourself, and tell us what you'd like to see from this group! [Ann] TemporaryStorage-Version patch

Zope 2.5 comes with builtin session support. An undoable storage is quite inefficient to store large amounts of rapidly changing data such as typical session data. Therefore, a RAM based storage, the so called TemporaryStorage, was integrated as container mainly for session data. Unfortunately, this storage does not implement versions. There is a high chance that using versions leads to a "TemporaryStorage does not support versions" exception, even if you are unaware to use sessions. At least, I made this experience using CMF. The patch lets TemporaryStorage ignore versions, when the environment variable ZOPE_TEMPSTORE_IGNORE_VERSIONS is set (to a non-empty value). This seams adequate for session data, as sessions seem orthogonal to versions. Be aware, however, that this may hit you. As some objects in the version are usually different from the corresponding objects outside the version, session information may be compatible with just one and not both of them. Zope 2.5.0 beta 4 released

If you are compiling your own Zope from the source distribution, you should be sure to build and run it with Python 2.1.2 when it comes out. In the meantime, we advise that you build and run Zope with the Python 2.1 maintenance branch from the Python public CVS to ensure that you have all of the latest fixes. DC Zope Python User Group Meeting this Wednesday.

ZPugDC Meeting on 16 Jan 2001 I just wanted to remind you all that in about the next ZPugDC meeting this coming Wednesday in Reston, VA. The next Zope Python User Group meeting in Washington, DC, is on Wednesday, 16 January 2002 from 7pm. There are rumors that there will be libations and snacks and its not to be missed! The fabulous Joya Subudhi has organised it so its bound to be something to remember. Foretec is organising Python 10 this and every year! Its really the only US Python conference and we really want to support them for this. For this reason -- and many others -- we are honoring Python in the month of January and the next ZPug is in honour of Python 10! Ring in the new year with a big dose of ZODB with Andrew Kuchling as he crows about his amazing use of the Zope Object DataBase as he and his company, MEMS Exchange, uses it in their Python development. Also, to brag, ZPug got a mention on the OnLamp so check that out. Finally, yes the Mailing list is temporarily down, we have moved to iMeme and they rock -- throw money at them, they are the coolest and have generously offered to host Zpug for free for 9,999 months at least. ZDataQueryKit - Query Databases Without Programming

ZDataQueryKit - Query Databases Without Programming Aims: The aim of this product is to allow people who are not familiar with SQL (Or at least are not experts) to produce complex SQL queries from any combination of Zope data sources. Objects: **ZVisualQuery** -- Visually design a ZSQLMethod ZSQLMethods are powerful Zope tools for querying databases that use the popular 'SQL' language. This is a complex language which can take many years to learn properly. ZVisualQuery does away with all that! As long as you know what tables you want to extract data from, and how the tables relate to each other (This is often documented with the database) you can extract data without the effort of writing and debugging potentially complex SQL statements. **ZDataCombiner** -- Visually combine data from _different sources_ *"The sales figures are in MySQL, the exchange rates are in PostgreSQL, and the personnel data is in Oracle, how can I write a single query that will conbine all this data?"* - The answer is, of course, you can't! BUT now you can do the next best thing! With ZDataCombiner you can take data from _any_ group of Zope datasources and combine them into a single datasource for other objects to query. As long as your datasources have, or can be given, common (Often called 'key') fields, you can combine the data from any set of Zope datasources and use it as though it was a normal ZSQLMethod (Or ZVisualQuery)! **ZReportTool** -- Visually create simple and complex tabular reports Once you have your data, you need to display it. This is where you need a DTMLMethod, and you start getting ready to write complex **<dtml-in ...>** commands, right? **WRONG**! Now with ZReportTool, you can simply select the datasource you want to use, select which columns to display, you can group by columns, and even sum numeric columns. Hit save and you have a report - Top to bottom, with no programming! And a special treat for people with XMLKit installed: **ZVisualODBCClient** -- Visually design an XMLODBCClient query The latest version of my XMLKit product http://www.zope.org/Members/haqa/XMLKit provides the ability to query an ODBC Socket Server from Zope. This, finally, allows Zope running on any platform to query Microsoft ODBC Databases on a Windows PC. ZVisualODBCClient does for XMLODBCClient what ZVisualQuery does for ZSQLMethod - It allows query designing without SQL programming. The output from the method is still compatible with that produced by a ZSQLMethod, and the objects that call the query can't even tell the difference!
