We're shuffling things around a bit on zope.org, in particular to incorporate a new disk. In the process i'm going to have to bring down the web site for 3 to 5 minutes. ANN: Squishdot 0.3.0 (new feature release)

Hi all, I've released a new version of Squishdot (ver. 0.3.0) which incorporates the "re" patch -- it now works fine with Zope 2 out of the box. Aside from numerous bug fixes, it has two new major features: * a preview posting/comment button/screen - which will allow you to see what your posting will look like. * a RDF/RSS page (useful for content syndication) It also has some internal changes which make it easier to customize its validation of articles/comments. If you're installing Squishdot from scratch, I would suggest using the latest version. BUT if you are however already running a Squishdot site (with a lot of data and/or customizations which you want preserved), there are some slight complications if you plan to upgrade to the new version (due to the internal changes I've made) -- please check the updated documentation. In addition, I've also deprecated the old squishdot site at http://members.tripod.com/squishdot/index.html. I've started to use the http://squishdot.org as the new Squishdot home page. Hello, It's been a exciting week in Zopeland. The Zope community is cooking up a lot of great stuff! Martijn Fassan and Anthony Pfrunder are working on xml-based content formatting and behavior projects. Ty Sarna is pushing Zope's database capabilities by adding Berkeley DB support. It's hard to keep up with all the great new Zope products and documentation. As always Zope.org is the best place to look for most of the exciting new stuff. * Anthony Pfrunder announced his VisualZope Product which looks quite interesting, though it is very early in development at this point. Performance enhancements trickled into CVS, while Zopistas far and wide released cool new Zope stuff. * After some Apache problems last week, Zope.org seems to be running well. Zope.org now sports 50 user contributed How-Tos and 20 user contributed Zope products. Sorry for the double-tap. --------------------------------- Hello everyone: Just wanted to give everyone an update on our documentation effort. First, I am pleasantly flabbergasted at the number, variety and depth of the How-Tos contributed by the community! It's clear that the new Zope site (specifically, Member self-publishing) will go a long way toward helping the documentation effort. The past several weeks have certainly been busy. In the middle of everything else, we've been working on documentation. Specifically, the New and Improved DTML User Reference is online: http://www.zope.org/Documentation This is a part of the "core documentation overhaul" on which we're working. Unfortunately, we are a little behind on this effort (originally forecast for release 9/15/1999). We (obviously) didn't make that milestone. However, I have it from reliable sources that we should have the remaining (promised) documents published no later Friday (with some making earlier debuts). Remember that (for now at least :^), we've defined the core docs (and 'revised' projected availability) are: o Zope Administrator's Guide: 9/25 o Zope Content Manager's Guide: 9/22 o Zope Content Manager's Reference: TBD o DTML User Guide: TBD o DTML User Reference: Complete o ZSQL Guide: 9/23 o ZSQL Reference: TBD Where "Reference" documents are, well, references, and "Guide" documents have a more tutorial flavor. Zope v2.0.1 released. PLEASE UPGRADE

Gang, Zope 2.0.1 has been released and is now up on the new portal site (which as you'll see in a site note is back on port 80). I would strongly (very very strongly) recommend that anyone who is using 2.0.0 upgrade immediately, as this changes nothing except to fix the outstanding security hole discovered yesterday. This is critical if you are using local roles. If you are tracking CVS, then the change was committed last night, and you should be up to date with that. pamUserFolder verison 0.01

I have done a quick hack N kludge to the etcuserFolder product to add support for PAM authentication via the PyPam module. for those that would like it, I have made it available at http://www.zope.org:18200/Members/bwarff this first draft acts in the same way as etcUserFolder, with a flat text file that lists the user accounts which PAM will try and authenticate. Im hoping to have a more 'zopeified' version with web based account managment available soon.
