This release is intended for testing purposes only; a beta release should follow within two weeks. What is the CMF? The highlight of this release is that you no longer need to explicitly use the snapshot.py command for running tools such as backup and checkds. They will manage snapshot mode themselves. Remember those unwieldy long command line examples in the backup howto? Gone. Ive marked this release as a beta. It should all be backwards compatible with 1.1.x, but the changes are a little deeper than I normally like to make in a maintenance release. Please take care. No serious bugs are fixed in this release. Changes in 1.1.10 Several enhancements - all fully backwards compatible except this first one: Changed the meaning of relative filenames in snapshot.conf to be relative to the directory containing the snapshot.conf file, rather than relative to the current working directory. Note that this is a potentially incompatible change from all previous versions. Enhanced the checkds.py and backup.py scripts so that you no longer need to explicitly use the snapshot.py tool to launch them.... They can force the storage into snapshot mode themselves. The use of snapshot.py is still recommended if you are scripting these tools - it supports retrys if snapshot mode is not available immediately, and allows more than one tool to be run inside the one snapshot. Rationalized the command line for snapshot.py. It now uses the same switches as auto-snapshot-mode feature of checkds.py and backup.py. All old scripts using old command line switches will continue to work as before. Enhanced snapshot.py so that it can use direct file access to put the storage into snapshot mode (even when Zope is not running). This is the default method if snapshot.conf can not be opened. If you have an existing snapshot.conf and want to enable this option, add a line containing the one word 'direct' on the end of snapshot.conf Changed backup tool to take a copy of the configuration directory as part of a full backup. Previously it only took a copy of the data directory. Several recent changes (in 1.1.8 and 1.1.7) to provide more robust replication for storages that receive infrequent writes caused problems for ZODB unit tests. These extra safety precautions have been inhibited when run under a unit test. Changed base class of DirectoryStorageError exception from POSException.POSError to POSException.StorageError. This solves some minor problems with ZODB unit tests by being closer to the behaviour of BDBStorage. Added Storage.py.... a new wrapper module to simplify access to DirectoryStorage. You no longer need to seperately construct the Filesystem and Full objects. [ANN] Zwiki 0.32 released

Zwiki 0.32 (july edition) has been released, a little late due to a client work crunch (and a weekend floating down the Kern river). Summary: Zwiki's skin is about fully internationalised; translation updates, new polish, dutch & german translations; skin cleanups; pluggable page types; refactoring, bugfixes. ( http://zwiki.org/ReleaseNotes ) This was another month of i18n progress. Both the standard and plone skins, including the standard DTML-based pages if you install those, are now fully internationalised via PlacelessTranslationService - great work all. Welcome to new translators/developers Marek Ciesielski, Jakub Wisniowski, Jaap Noordzij, Andreas Mayer. Users won't see much else new since 0.31, just the usual bugfixes. Behind the scenes, there has been another page types refactoring - these are now in separate modules and it's easier to add new ones, see pagetypes/. Several contributors are successfully using darcs now ( http://zwiki.org/ZwikiDarcs ) and this is helping us to share and integrate patches quicker. Best wishes, -Simon

S. -- Nuxeo and Nexedi to organize a CPS/ERP5 sprint in Paris by the end of August 2004 Goal: to transfer competencies between developers, to bootstrap new developments, and to reinforce and enlarge the CPS and ERP5 developers communities Dates: 25-27 August 2004 (to be confirmed, might change to 27-29 if many participants prefer to work over the week-end) Participants: Nexedi and Nuxeo developers, and external developers interested by CPS and/or ERP5. Warning: only experimented Zope+CMF developers, with at least a first contact with CPS or ERP5, will be invited. You should at least have some experience developing new products for the CMF using Python. We're expecting between 8 and 20 persones overall. Place: Paris, 20th arrondissement. Programme: first day will be devoted to lectures and discussions on the CPS and ERP5 architectures, and on the project to start during the sprint. The following two days will be devoted to implementation, using pair-programming and test-driven development, under the guidance of one or several coaches (experimented developers from Nuxeo and Nexedi). Projects: one of the project will be to improve CPS / ERP5 integration. Hardware: people will need to come with their own laptops. We will provide Ethernet and WiFi access. If someone can come with a beamer (video-projector), great, otherwise we will rent one.
