Bill, there should be an executable in your Zope machine's $SYBASE/bin directory named "dsedit". Run it and add the 11.0.3 server to the list of machines. Sybase DAv2 connection problems.

OK, I have it working when connecting to my local 11.9.2 server. Works great. Unfortunately, when I try to connect to the 11.0.3 server, it fails, giving me 'invalid connection string'. I would figure that connecting would be backwars-compatible, am I wrong? Could it be a port issue? 11.9.2 runs default on 4100, but it appears 11.0.x (at least here) is running on 4002. Brian and I talked a bit about this and we don't think this should be provided to DTML, it could mess up assumptions about calling an 'abort' and then things happening after that, in it's current state zope might try to commit changes after you've called abort since it never expect application level logic to be called after the commit or abort point. I believe it works on the assumption that transactions are only rolled back on errors. Why not standard_html_error? You can catch any number of your own errors that you raise in your code with a <dtml-if> construct, just test the value of error_type and then call specific pages based on those errors. Note, it's not a good idea to call documents from an error handler that can raise errors! You have to be careful about that. -Michel

Using recursion with a SQL method

All, I have a MySQL table "category" with the following schema: id number name char parent_id number The table is self-referencing in that the parent_id points back to an ID. This structure renders a hierarchical listing of categories, with the root categories having a parent_id of -1. I have a SQL method to select category names and IDs by their parent ID: ID: Query_category_by_parid Arguments: parent_id:required:int Query: select id, name from category where <dtml-sqltest parent_id type=int> order by name I have a DTML method which calls itself recursively to find a list of categories starting with the specified parent: ID: list_categories <dtml-in "Query_category_by_parid(parent_id=parent_id)"> <p><dtml-var name> (<dtml-var id>)</p> <dtml-var "list_categories(parent_id=id)"> </dtml-in> This however, doesn't work. It appears that the second call to Query_category_by_parid, within the second call to list_categories, fails. I've backed off the patch for now and asked Phillip to send me one as a file att. so that even _I_ can't mess it up :) Could those of you who use CVS try updating your FCGIServer.py to verify that it works again and let me know? I'm running Zope on a Linux box (redhat 5.2) and have mod_fastcgi_SNAP_Oct06 compiled into Apache 1.3.9 on a Solaris x86 box. This patch, from FCGIServer.py r1.4 to r1.5 utterly breaks FCGI support. Any attempt to connect via FCGI makes zope go into an infinite loop, gobbling up memory. Yes, this is in the collector now, but it's worth mentioning it to zope-dev so anyone else who is trying to make this work doesn't end up screaming and ranting... (As an aside - how do I get CVS to checkout a particular revision of a particular file? Can I do this?) (Aside2: classic.zope.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi is just hanging for me... :( the log entry for this revision: revision 1.5 date: 1999/11/22 14:48:07; author: brian; state: Exp; lines: +9 -1 Added P.Eby patch to deal with IRIX cgi-fcgi where the client doesnt seem to know when its done sending stdin and ZServer hangs waiting for it. Best way to email a newsletter to thousands of recipients from a Zope site Zope site

Hi, I need to add a newsletter feature to a Zope site. Interested people will be able to register their email addresses, and the newsletter will be mailed to all addresses every 1-2 weeks. The number of recipients could potentially have 4 zeroes in it (and no, it won't be 0000). What would be the best way to do the mailing? Use mailhost with a very long recipient list? Call mailhost once for every recipient? Use some external tool to do the mailing? Sybase DA import error
