Resize a image stored in a Oracle's BLOB Field

Hello, Thanks, I have displayed the images which them was stored in a Oracle's BLOB field, with: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type','image/jpeg')"> <dtml-in SQLMethod_with_a_Only_Row> <dtml-var expr="BLOB_FIELD.read()"> </dtml-in> However, I would like to resize this image. I can not do it with the "height" and "width" attributes, because the image is obtained from a Oracle's BLOB field, and no from image object (i.e.: I can not use <dtml-var "ImageObject.tag(border='5', align='left')">). How can I do it ? Thanks again !

Server push and Zope

Has anyone written ExternalMethods or DTML pages that do server push? It was probably impossible with Zope1 because of the single thread, but with Zope2 it might be possible to start a new subthread to service each push-receiving client. Why do I care about a Netscape-only extension/hack like server push? Because of http://www.mems-exchange.org/exchange/software/microscope/web-login.html (use the INM200 if you try it out), which uses a Java servlet to provide a Web-based microscope interface. Zope would probably have enough flexibility to make this interface less hopelessly lame. -- A.M. gadfly embedded newlines Re: SQLSession help needed!

Anthony Baxter has mentioned a number of times that gadfly barfs on strings with embedded newlines. There is a one line patch to this. In sqlgen.py replace charstre = "'[^\n']*'" with charstre = "'[^']*'" Sorry! -- Aaron Watters (and please bring up other issue like this on the gadfly-rdbms list at egroups.com).

Zope has a rather strong notion of transactions. Significantly, the boundaries of transactions on the ZODB and the RDBMS are aligned. In other words, a failure on either the ZODB leg or the RDBMS leg of a particular transaction will either both succeed or both fail (i.e., be rolled back). This leverages existing and robust transaction support in each of these persistence mechanisms (i.e., the ZODB and the RDBMS). Most file systems (journaling file systems excepted) do not have the notion of a transaction. It would be the updates to flat files that would hard (impossible?) to incorporate into Zope's transactions. It's therefore hard to use the word transaction in this context since transaction, imo, implies many things that the file system is unlikely to provide. This is an architectural issue which other app servers are equally unlikely to support. HTH, --Rob

And incase you want information displayed on successful login. Link to the nifty how-to by Richard Taylor which saves me having to write one :-) Fix of all Outstanding Issues [1]. ZOPE and my domain

To All, I have a project I am working on that I need some Zope experts advice on. Understand that I am a Zope novice. I have got it up and running but have no idea where to start. I have also started getting smarter from a Python perspective. Well here is the question. I was privy to a presentation on Zope several months ago that was given to the Front Range Object Study Group (FROST). I am now in a position where I need essentially an application server. It is essentially a work flow automation system that during the course of the work flow we must pull data from various disparate data sources, publish data to other data sources and update several flat file systems and wrap the whole shooting match inside of a transaction or as much of it as we can!!! Several options come to mind but none except Zope makes me feel good. Option One: Install NT with Microsoft Transaction Server, write a bunch of ASP pages with ActiveX components that do all of the work. The MTS will manage the transaction as long as I write the guts of the rollback and commit for the flat file updates! Con: Its Microsoft and buggy and usually slow!!! Option two: Purchase Sybase's Jaguar Component Transaction Server and write the whole shooting match as a bunch of Java components and rely on Jaguar to manage the transaction in much the same way MTS does. Con: I worked as a developer on this project for Sybase. It is less than stable even in its fourth release!!! Option three: Purchase IBM's WebSphere app server, write everything in Java and run it like Jaguar. Con: Really new to the market and 100% Java so I am worried about performance!! Option four: Install ZOPE coupled with Apache or possibly the built in ZOPE web server. Here I am confused as to whether Zope can do the transaction management. Con: Don't know if it will provide the functionality I require!! Can Zope coupled with Apache and Python do what I need? Thanks for the help, Ken Crismon MapQuest

We in Zope-land are keeping a close eye on this, as publishing objects via HTTP is the core idea of Zope already. Once the SOAP spec is fleshed out enough to implement in Python, it will probably be laugably easy not only to implement SOAP objects in Python but also to wrap most any existing COM objects as SOAP-aware objects.
