Hi all, I have tried Zope for a week and found a logic problem. An object (say index_html) is inherited by child objects of the site say Document to make http://www.domain.com/Document share the upper level index_html. This sounds good but acutally not I think. People will be really confused to see such results: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZopeBook/Documentation http://www.zope.org/Images Is there a way to setup an object to be uninheritable or as private to avoid this logic? Or maybe we should workout a way to do so. Wei He

DirectoryViews for Zope2.6?

hi folks, i was wondering if there is interest (or possiblity) of including directory views in zope2.6. i've been using them for team development with zope, and i've come to think their a fantastic dev. method in combination with cvs. any takers? cheers kapil

fsrecovery in Zope 2.4 ?

In Zope 2.5 CHANGES.txt is said "Provided a much more robust tool for recovering data from damaged FileStorage files" I would like to know what tool it is. Is it lib/python/ZODB/fsrecovery.py ?? As I can't upgrade to Zope 2.5 now, I would like to know if it is possible to install and use this tool on Zope 2.4, because the gain in case of a catastrophe seem very interesting. Interested in sprinting at EuroPython 2002?

First, as a friendly reminder for EuroPython 2002: *** Early registration is open !!! *** *** https://secure.zope.nl/europython/Registration *** Deadline is May 31. Now, on to the good stuff. The "EuroPython 2002 conference", http://www.europython.org, is in Charleroi, Belgium. We are planning a sprint the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday before the confernce, making this sprint cover June 23-25. The goal of this sprint is like most others: education and spreading the word. However, we would like this sprint to attract a group of people that are committed to participating in Zope 3 after the sprint. If your interest is simply in learning about Zope 3, there is a tutorial the first day of the conference that might be more appropriate. The requirements are simple: you need to know how to develop in Python. Even Zope experience isn't mandatory (though it is quite useful.) We hope to have two groups of sprinters, with 6 or 8 people in each group. This means 3 or 4 pairs. ZODB, Catalog and actually using it

Hello~~ I am playing with using the Catalog class in ZCatalog along with CatalogQuery to create a generic object layer on top of ZODB. I can index and search til I am blue in the face, and I always get the correct answers. Now for the problems... Say I have the following obj: class test(Persistent): variable = 1 def function(self): print self.__dict__ now if I do: catalog = Catalog() catalog.addIndex('variable', Fieldindex('variable')) catalog.addColumn('variable') obj = test() catalog.catalogObject(obj, id(obj)) catalog_query = CatalogQuery(catalog, "variable==1") results = catalog_query() for r in results: print r.variable # ok print r.getRID() # ok print r.function # NameError ...so I can get an object (a mybrains instance )back that allows me to print r.variable, but I cannot get r.function(). How does one do this? Is there a mapping between RIDs in the catalog and real objects somewhere? Do I need to do that mapping in an IOBtree (it would make the most sense since I am using id(obj) as the uid in the catalog)? Is there somewhere in Zope/google/web that does this? DT_Var modifier

Hi. I am currently hacking the DTMLTeX product, (maybe gonna make a relase of it ...) which seems unmaintained, as the old owner isn't responding anymore. What i needed for that, was a new modifier for dtml-var, called "tex_quote", that I implemented by "monkeypatching" DT_Var.Var . My question now: Would it be possible to modify the DT_Var.Var.__init__, so it can call the parse_params in a way, that I only have to path the DT_Var.modifiers? I think that wouldn't be a big change, but i wouldn't need to monkeypatch the __init__ ... I am willing to provide the changed code for that, if this gets accepted. [OPINIONS SOLICITED] Adding Batch Factory to ZMI "Add" menu OK?

Hello: I am about to release a new version of the ExternalFile and CVSFile products http://www.zope.org/Members/arielpartners/ExternalFile They are Zope objects that behave like standard Zope objects but retrieve their content from files anywhere in the file system. (kind of like a windows shortcut or UNIX symbolic link) I would like to include a way to automatically create an instance for every file within a directory: a "batch" flavor. Previously, one would have to select "ExternalFile" from the "Add" menu in ZMI for each and every file, one at a time. For large directories, this is a major pain. The way I have implemented this is to create a new "pseudo object" -- basically a factory for creating batches of ExternalFiles: "ExternalFileBatch" You select "External File Batch" from the "Add" menu in ZMI and you get a form that allows you to specify the directory. It is really just a Factory for creating instances of another class, namely ExternalFile. An alternative would have been to create an additional tab in the ZMI for Folders which allows you to create instances of ExternalFile. I could do this by monkeypatching Folders, or by creating an ExternalFileFolder class. There are advantages and disadvantages either way. I don't like ExternalFileFolder b/c ExternalFiles are not supposed to be anything special. The whole point is to be able to use them in ANY context in which you would use a standard Zope object. Hi. I don't know how many ppl, actually are using the "sql-test" tag, but I really like it, and am using it, but have a lot of stupidities when using it to it's extend ... Things I would like to see (and I am willing to do), but need some help: 1. Concrete and complete description of what this tag is supposed to do in which cases (optional, multiple ...) 2. What those crufty single letter variables are ... and rename them. So, I only need some help on talking about and investigate further for myself. Also you can tell me, that ZRDB should die in the next 2 hours or so and it wouldn't be any good to put any effort in here (but I think this effort isn't bad anyway ...)
