ZCatalog - hiding query results

Hi all, I don't know if it's the right list to post to, but I have the following problem: I have several objects (documents, folders etc) that are accessible only by a certain user role, this objects are cataloged. Now if I query the catalog the brains of these objects are returned correctly, but to _all_ users that issue a query. That means, users that don't have the permission to "View" or "Access Content Information" can see the brains as well... I tried to filter the result set by converting the brains into real objects (brain.getObject) in an external method (I thought, this way I should be able to exclude unauthorized users by adding the "skip_unauthorized" to the dtml-in), but that doesn't work since there are "brains" that are actually NoBrainer instances... Does anyone have an idea of how I could solve this problem? Actually I thought this kind of "information hiding" is supported by basic ZCatalog machinery, but now it looks like I'll have to hack a workaround... Any help greatly appreciated. Greetings, Igor

Hi all, in case someone have same problem as me (see "ZCatalog - hiding query results" thread for more info) - I got a solution: - create a product that subclasses ZCatalog - in this product overwrite ZCatalog.getobject with def getobject(self, rid): """foo""" obj = self.aq_parent.unrestrictedTraverse(self.getpath(rid),\ restricted=1) return obj - create a python script in your catalog (e.g. "filterCat") with a parameter that reoresents the catalog itself ("brains" here): retval = [] for brain in brains: try: obj = container.getobject(brain.getRID()) retval.append(brain) except: pass return retval - adjust your catalog query reports, so that they call "filterCat(_['<catalogname>'])" instead of <catalogname> Now your users see only those hits in a query which apply to objects they are allowed to "View". greetings, Igor

Shallow copies/links/references

Hi: OK everyone, I've managed to get object links to work. As discussed previously by others (re: object references) and asked by myself: I had the need to be able to refer to objects from different points of the folder hierarchy without duplicating those objects. Yes I know that can be done *programatically*. That is not the idea. The idea is to have a folder with differente widgets/components and to be able to copy and paste references to those widgets throughout the folder hierarchy. Of course that the usual copy/paste is not OK, since that *duplicates* the objects and as such further changes to the original object wont be reflected in the copies. With something like this + Ordered Folders you are able to have an index_html that just renders the objects within a folder and you can then drop objects/widgets into the folder to produce a page. What I did: - edited CopySupport.py - copied the manage_pasteObjects method to a manage_pasteMonikers method - commented the #ob=ob._getCopy(self) line (the duplicate object part) - added a "Paste Ref" button to the lib/python/OFS/dtml/main.dtml file that calls the pasteMonikers method """ <input class="form-element" type="submit" name="manage_pasteMonikers:method" value="Paste Ref." /> """ It works. It does what I want/need. When you change a reference, the original also changes. When you change the original, the references change. You can delete either the reference or the original and all is OK. Issues/TODO - find a way to distinguish references from the original (tried to change the meta_type at paste time but no luck). At least the meta_type/icon should change to provide a visual cue. - provide tool(s) to find impact of changing a reference. Provide a link from a reference object to the original. Dynpersist.so and makefile.pre.in

Hey! I know I've done this before, but for some reason it's eluding me. I'm on a brand new box with a fresh 2.4.3 zope. I am trying to get sql authentication working with loginmanager/Zpatterns I can't seem to find a "makefile.pre.in" on my system. I have python and python-devel both from RPM, and a regular install of zope. I tried using a makfile.pre.in from some other package (found on the web) but got tons of errors. Where would I find a copy of this file for my platform? Which incedentally is Mandrake 8.1. Anyone have one that might work. Do I need to build python from the source? Thanks! -ed-

[sent to zope-dev] This problem is due to a deep bug in the current implementation of the Types Tool: a created object has no way to know its portal_type during construction (the constructor doesn't have this information, thus nor __init__ nor the hooks like manage_afterAdd can have it). I thought that this bug was already in the Tracker but I don't find it. Anyone knows ? Anyway I'd propose the following: we need, in constructInstance, to somehow pass the portal_type to the object constructor. Unfortunately this has to be backwards-compatible with all the constructors out there that don't know about it. I see two possible ugly solutions to do it: - do "constructor.__portal_type = portal_type" before calling constructor(...), and the constructor does something like: def manage_addFoo(...): try: portal_type = manage_addFoo.__portal_type manage_addFoo.__portal_type = None except: portal_type = None ... - in constructInstance, use introspection (getargspec) to look if the constructor accepts a portal_type=xxx named parameter, and pass it if it does. segfaults persist in 2.4.4b1

Hi, I previously had a segfaulting Zope 2.4.3 installation, whose segfaults I traded for a leak when I disabled the cycle-gc. I just installed Zope 2.4.4b1 (binary) hoping it'd fix the segfaults so that Zope could go back to not leaking, but they persist. Disabling gc in this new version stops the segfaults, but restarts the leak, just like before. Basically, it feels like the problems are the same for me. I'm now in the process of recompiling python 2.1.2 --without-pymalloc to see if it solves the problem but I suspect it'll only make Zope crash less instead of stop crashing (like it did last time). If anyone has any tip (or an automatic stack dump generator for running zope processes) -- Ideas don't stay in some minds very long because they don't like solitary confinement.

Urgent help required

Hi, Thanks for all the answers for running Zope (Linux) and MS-SQL(WinNT). Now I have a different scenario. In case I use Win2K and MS-SQL-Server 2000, I need to use ZODBCDA. Now my question is that does Zope use connection pooling how do I configure that? If not, then suppose I get 10 database requests, does it put them in queue (opening only one connection) or it executes them parallely opening 10 separate connections? Thanks, Peeyush Garg.

Running out of options

Hello, This is regarding the Zope restarting problem that's been talked about recently. We've tried TONS of different configurations: Python 2.1.x (with threads and with & without pymalloc) Zope 2.4.x (built wo_pcgi & binary installs) ZMySQLDA (with & without the Kromer patch) MySQLdb (built against the different flavors of Python) Here's our latest attempt at a stable Zope: - Python 2.1.2 (with threads and with pymalloc) - Zope 2.4.4b1 (wo_pcgi build) - ZMySQLDA (latest CVS checkout with and without the Kromer patch applied to db.py) - MySQLdb (latest CVS checkout build against Python 2.1.2) - TinyTable product (one of our patches applied) - A customizations product for removing specific restrictions on through-the-web components. Does anyone know for sure if this is a problem with ZMySQLDA or with Zope? We've been hearing talk that once 2.4.4 is released, all will be good in the hood. Are we missing the boat somewhere? Can anyone confirm that a similar setup fixed their Zope restart problems? Are there any magic option values (num threads, disable watchdog) we can be passing to z2.py that might help stop the bleeding? If it is confirmed that 2.4.4 is still hosed, then what is the recommended course of action? Down-grade to Zope 2.3.3? Cross our fingers and wait? Which is more stable right now, Zope 2.5.0 or Zope 2.4.4? Thank you, Erik

CMF 1.2 - Can I convert Files to PortalFiles

I have a number (100plus - not too many but enough) of objects of type File in my zope that aren't visible under CMF 1.2. Is there any easy way to convert these into objects of type PortalFile without having to upload all of the content again. I have tried importing them, but the CMF site catalog is not updated automatically. I understand that I might have to add in the new metadata. I just want a way to avoid the uploads. I'm not a python programmer, so please don't tell me that I could write a script in a minute, but you could send me the script. John Knutson Candle Corp England

logging crash

Hi, I have modified ZServer/medusa/http_server.py::http_request.log() so that the host is tacked onto the end of the log file. This is so that I can track my virtual hosts. I originally found the logging hack on the zope site somewhere and cannot find it again.
