I've just released the first beta of Manuel, my next-generation doctest project. Being that zope-dev has some of the most well-informed users of doctest (and some of the most well-informed non-users of doctest), I'd like to gather feedback from this group before making an announcement to the wider world. Manuel is available from PyPI (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/manuel) with docs, details, and examples at http://packages.python.org/manuel/. zope.testing: Define __add__ for RENormalizing

Hi, I suggest defining __add__ for zope.testing.renormalizing.RENormalizing which would return a new Checker with the transformers combined. This allow better reuse of those checkers without having to define the patterns separately. Like checker = checker_a + checker_b. zc.relationship - can't pickle module objects

Hi, I *think* this is a bug in zc.relationship, but I'm not quite sure. I'm using ZODB3 3.8.1 (to get BLOB support) and trying to install plone.app.relations, which depends on zc.relationship 1.0.2. In particular, it subclasses zc.relationship.shared.Container, and stores a zc.relationship.index.Index object in self.relationIndex. Now, the __init__ of zc.relationship.index.Index, which derives from Persistent, contains the code below. In self._relTools and and self._attrs, there are a pile of modules, types and functions being stored. I think these are causing the ZODB to barf. Interestingly, with whatever version of ZODB that comes with Zope 2.10 (3.7?), there's no problem. How to test changes to ZTK packages?

I should know this, but I don't. What is the recommended way to test changes to core ZTK packages to mitigate the risk that changes affect other packages? Is there a page somewhere with instructions? I tried using using zope.release. Building the trunk of zope.release with Python 2.4 and running the tests gives lots of test import errors and test failures. (Lots of tests want to import z3c.pt.) The tests hang when I try to build and run with Python 2.6. BTW, zope.release wants lxml, which is a real pain on Mac OS X and Centos 4. Does the ZTK really need to depend on lxml? Making PersistentList satisfy zope.schema.List

I noticed that PersistentList and PersistentDict do not satisfy zope.schema.List or zope.schema.Dict, which is rather annoying. For example: class IBlogPost(Interface): tags = zope.schema.List(title=u'Tags', value_type=zope.schema.TextLine) class BlogPost(Persistent): implements(IBlogPost) tags = FieldProperty(IBlogPost['tags']) def __init__(self): super(BlogPost, self).__init__() self.tags = persistent.list.PersistentList() #aaah, WrongType error... will throw a WrongType: ([], <type 'list'>) error, which is especially confusing because the repr for PersistentList makes it look an awful lot like a regular list. same thing happens with PersistentDict. I would like to modify zope.schema._bootstrapfields by changing the _type attribute of the List class to (list, UserList), and do the same for Dict with (dict, UserDict). Then anything inheriting from UserList (including PersistentList) will satisfy the schema. Can anyone think of a reason why this would be bad? -- Paul Carduner http://www.carduner.net

ZCatalog and indexes cleanup

Hi! I did plan to work on a small catalog improvement, but after looking at the code I'd like to do some cleanup first: 1.) remove the deprecated TextIndex The deprecation warning says: 'Using TextIndex is deprecated (will be removed in Zope ' '2.12). Use ZCTextIndex instead.' 2.) remove CHANGES.txt, README.txt and version.txt from Products/ZCatalog These files seem to be obsolete. 3.) remove security declarations from ZCTextIndex and DateRangeIndex All the other indexes don't have security declarations. AFAICS there is no way to access indexes from untrusted code without having the 'Manage ZCatalogIndex Entries' permission. 4.) add 'indexSize' to IPluggableIndex and implement it where missing ZCatalog uses that method and most indexes implement it already. If there are no objections, I'll make these changes on the 2.12 branch and the trunk. Cheers, Yuppie

Schema to JSON

Hi, I'm about to embark on a module to serialize Zope schemas into the JSON format for my application, taking inspiration from z3c.schema2xml. I've had a look around SVN to see if this functionality has already been implemented but can't find anything - does anybody know whether this has already been done somewhere? Also, it makes sense in my mind for a schema2xml and schema2json to implement the same interface. How does Zope handle this case? With a format agnostic interface module or something?
