Hi there, Recently there was a project called snakebite revealed: http://www.snakebite.org/ http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-committers/2009-January/000331.html It's basically a whole bunch of machines that open source projects, in particular Python related ones, can make use of for testing. It's essentially a buildbot farm as I understand it. The announcement says: "Every CPython, Jython, IronPython and PyPy committer will have access to every development server on the network. I’ve also extended the offer to prominent Python projects like Django and Twisted." I think the Zope project counts as a "prominent Python project" and we have a lot of interesting code to test, so perhaps they'll let us in. :) Would people be interested in working on making use of this platform? We could use it for testing of a wide range of packages. Perhaps the ZODB would be an interesting package to start with. If so we should approach snakebite to see whether we can get on board. zope.publisher dependencies

I've been working on the dependencies to and from zope.publisher. Refining the dependencies should make it easier to integrate zope.pipeline when it's ready. I've noticed that nearly all packages that depend on zope.publisher depend only on a few pieces of it: - zope.publisher.interfaces - zope.publisher.browser.Browser{View|Page} - zope.publisher.browser.TestRequest One simple, low-risk refactoring I would like to do is move zope.publisher.interfaces into its own package, make zope.publisher a namespace package, and make zope.publisher depend on zope.publisher.interfaces. The __init__.py in zope.publisher is already empty, so I expect the namespace conversion to be safe. Then I'd like to refine the dependency list of various packages that only require zope.publisher.interfaces. Any objections? It is less clear what we should do with BrowserView and BrowserPage. They depend on zope.location, unlike the rest of zope.publisher, so they don't really fit there. Perhaps those two belong in a new package, "zope.publisher.browserbase". There is also the tiny new "zope.browser" package. Would it make sense to move them there? (It's hard to tell what the intent of the new package is.) I'd love to hear other suggestions. As for TestRequest, I could update the setup.py of various packages that currently depend on zope.publisher just for TestRequest. I would make zope.publisher a test-only requirement. Shane

Coding style clarifications

Hi, while gathering, cleaning and consolidating the various statements that float around about the coding style for Zope 3, I found a couple of issues that I'd like to get clarification for. What I found is currently gathered at http://svn.zope.org/zope3docs/source/codingstyle/python-style.rst?rev=96729… Which attribute naming is current? ================================== Do we use under_scores or mixedCaseNames? I think I remember that we decided to follow PEP 8 for new code and invoke the "local consistentency" rule on old code. Is that correct? Global variable names ===================== I don't understand that rule. I kept it around because someone might be able to explain it more in-depth and whether it still applies. Import ordering =============== Jim proposed an alternative rule for ordering imports. Is this official? Proposal: merge zc.configuration's exclude directive into zope.configuration.

Hi there. The "exclude" directive provided by zc.configuration package is easy to use and straightforward. I think it's used almost in every zope-based application setup. Its implementation is very small and fits great in zope.configuration's standard directives. So I'd like to propose to move it to zope.configuration and make it always available for ZMCL files, just like the "include" directive, so people would'nt need to install extra package and include an extra "meta.zcml" file before being able to use it. If noone objects, I'd like to do that and make the "exclude" directive from zc.configuration point to the zope.configuration's implementation making the original place deprecated (however I guess the whole zc.configuration package should't be deprecated as it's intended to be a common place for configuration extensions, even if it has only one directive now).
