XML Document & the Venerable ZCat

I was wondering if anyone has had any success using zcatalog to index xml. Given some trivial xml like: <contacts> <company name="Acme Web Design"> <contact> <name>Road Runner</name> <phone>555-5555</phone> </contact> <contact> <name>Wylie Coyote</name> <phone>444-4444</phone> </contact> <phone>333-3333</phone> </company>> </contacts> It would be neat if you could index this information and be able to search contact names, contact phone numbers, and company phone numbers. Having tried a few things, I have not yet been able to persuade zcat to cooperate. Has anyone tackled this yet? What would be the best way to go about capturing this kind of functionality? It would be nice option if all the 'fields' in an xml document could be indexed or indexed after being selected from a list along with the indexing method (Text or Fielded). This would be useful when you have a document with lots of different elements or lots of smaller documents having different schemas. Any ideas?

UniquValuesFor not reflecting current state of the Catalog

Zope 2 with another web server using PCGI (Windows)

Hi there, I found in brianh's Howto for Zope2 - IIS - ZServer (if i am correct) that the file zope.cgi can be copied from a non-windows distribution to the web server's CGI directory. AccessControl/User.py:1.89 broke FTP support ?

Brian, The CVS version of lib/python/AccessControl/User.py revision 1.89 seems to have broken FTP support! You must have overlooked something with the cache code in 'getRolesInContext'. The previous revision is fine. This is beyond me as I'm just a zope(a)zope.org lurker :-) When not working, Z2.log exhibits the following when connecting to ZServer and trying to list the root folder: 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 220 afo2000 FTP server (Medusa Async V1.6 [experimental]) ready. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== USER afo 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 331 Password required. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== PASS <password> 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 230 Login successful. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== CWD / 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 550 No such directory. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== PWD 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 257 "/" is the current directory. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== PORT 127,0,0,1,12,40 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 200 PORT command successful. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== NLST -CF 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 550 Could not list directory. 127.0.0.1:3111 <== QUIT 127.0.0.1:3111 ==> 221 Goodbye. Here are my ideas so far: Have 'vocabulary objects' store the stopwords, synonyms, stemming rules, and lexicon (collection of uniquely indexed words) in a drop-in object for ZCatalog. This way, a 'French', 'Dutch' etc. vocabulary object could be developed by a third party. TextIndexes can then reference (or acquire) a vocabular object through which it can stop, syn, stem and store words in it's lexicon. There are many other issues like sharing lexicons between similar language indexes, and having multiple back-end 'index/vocabularies' that all look like one index, so you can search a 'document source' for either 'community' or 'communauté' or 'Gemeinschaft' and get only documents relevant to that language (my applogies if these words are wrong, I'm using babelfish). I think this problem could be intractable though, if you searched for 'walking' in english, the word would stem down into 'walk', if you search for 'marche' en francais, should it stem down to 'promenade'? Anyways, there is some good news. For those of you tracking CVS we have added the ability to set your locale in Zope. This means that, forexample, the splitter/stemmer in the catalog will recognize all of those umlauts and accented letters and whatnots that english doesn't have. We would like a few people all over the place to try this out. If your locale has a different language or monetary system than the US (just about everywhere except some of canada) this might make the catalog and other parts of Zope more useful for you. local can be activated from the z2.py command like with the '-L' option. "-L ''" (an empty string) will cause local to try and autodetect your locale from your environment variables (you must set the env variables yourself, see 'man 7 locale'). Alternativly, you can say "-L de" and set your local to German. Please folks, test this out for us. But there's a lot of difficulty matching the advanced philosphies of Zope (Acquisition, Security, and now ZClass based objects) and DTML (namespaces, syntax, general concepts) with just about any visual editor out there. A _LOT_ of difficulty. It would be a project of some serious effort, and we haven't seen anybody with enough initiative to come up with a plan of tackling this. On the other hand, the new syntax is easier to work into smart (non-visual) editors like Alpha (and Emacs-ish editor on the Mac) with syntax completion and all that. Some tags like the contributed dtml-let tag may have some difficulties in these environments that prefer to help keep code very neat by quoting all attributes (a good thing really), since the dtml-let tag behaves differently (ie, <dtml-let bob=uncle lu="aunt()" billy="'cousin'"> ) And there's always problems with this perrenial favorite (dtml tags inside of HTML tags) -- <tr <dtml-if sequence-index-even>bgcolor="#c0c0c0"</dtml-if>> And, well, a trying-to-be-SGML-complient editor that is doing all these wonderful things to help you (syntax hiliting, completion, dialog boxes with tag attributes) panics and jumps over these. But situations like that aside, the new syntax is significantly easier to work with. And with FTP and WebDAV integration, authoring outside of the management interface is made a little bit easier (but work still needs to be done in this area to help it along). So, the dream lives on... :)
